stephieirene1 I think they briefly mentioned it in the past, and if they didn’t it can be assumed. In one of the eps he talks to his mom and his mom tells him that his green card is counterfeit. I’m guessing they used his social security that was fake, and the store never like ran it through to check if it was real
I think that’s why in this episode Mateo didn’t want Jeff to run his background check b/c it uses social security stuff & they would figure out it’s fake
The only thing that bothers me is that it was introduced in the Olympics episode, so it didn't have to be canon.

This was funnier as a bit. I hate when shows get political. A little here and there is ok, but to end a finale on something like this pisses me off 👎 there are far better notes to end on..
It didn't get political, it expanded a character's story. This is how real life happens--there usually isn't a happy ending, and ESPECIALLY not for immigrants. They struggle every step of the way. I'm sorry you wanted Mateo to stay a snarky gay sidekick, but giving the character real challenges only made him better. Go watch Parks and Rec if you want shiny happy people all the time.

Shows and stories like this aren't "political"; they're human stories that do affect people like Mateo. Politicians make it "political". Admiral fuckbag ran with it, campaigning ad nauseam even after he won, over-simplifying the topic and exploiting peoples' fears and ignorances to the matter. You've got it twisted.
