- On the premiere of season 2 of NBC sitcom, “Superstore,” Mateo, a gay character from the Philippines, discovers that he is an undocumented immigrant. In humorous form, he discovers that the green card he has is fake. This strains an already contentious relationship with Glenn, his manager. While Mateo tries to convey this fact to Glenn, his boss; he is supported enthusiastically without real comprehension about his status.

Mateo's Tagalog accent is on point. That means he speaks it regularly. A lot of Filipino parents do not teach their children Tagalog.
That's only the boomers na matapobre 😂
And some fil am who can't speak it fluently because of the same boomers na matapobre.
He migrated to the US at 16 thats why. But yes, I also get your point :)
I wish Filipinos had Latino values like always making sure their children are bilingual. Filipimos think they’re white that if you only speak English, you’re automatically smart 😂
@Grillinnap not only Latino, also Chinese, Japanese, Korean American speak bilingual Kaya sila laging cast sa mga Holywood movies unlike sa mga Fil
American 😅
Oh yeah. Ang llutong pati pati pag magmura :D
Finally, a real Filipino representation. It's time the world realizes that NOT ALL ASIANS are Chinese. Lol.
Hahahahahaha
I thought Family Guy did a pretty good job already. They made fun of us all the time lol.
In hollywood, there are only 3 kinds of asian. Chinese, Japanese and Korean.
@@conansredbowtie they did!?🤨
This something I would proud of not just watching it. Nakakatuwa na nakakatawa lalo may Filipino sa American TV show!!! 👍👏🙌
this was my favorite moment in the whole show. hearing my language in a mainstream American tv show was mind-blowing and to have a gay, undocumented, filipino character on top of all of that??I love Matteo.
yes but he's one of the worst characters personality wise
@@meganmcleod6152 I wonder if it was a deliberate dig at how other shows think that making their characters gay means they’re good characters.
YES YES YES YES 😭💖
Mateo speaking tagalog is one of the moments I live for.
For those of you who don't know...Nico Santos was born and raised in the Philippines and emigrated in the US when he was 16. Hence, the reason why Kris is NOT the only Filipino in Crazy Rich Asians. Oh and before I forget, he played a role in CRA and not just a cameo. You're welcome! 😉
YES! His character was more memorable than Kris' LOL.
He also appeared in 2 broke girls S4E17 "And a Loan for Christmas"
Reacting a bit late... but this is the truth!!
you're welcome for what?
well Kris paid great PR team to promote herself to the producers and mainstream media but yes Nico's character was far off better and more significant than Kris
"grandma, do you remember buying that thing for me?"
"so the green card is a counterfeit?"
"so what you're saying is I'm not an American citizen?"
"and I could have watched Spiderman legally on netflix?"
You're welcome.
Is that Tagalog?
@@anitabalan2610 Yes
I'm Filipino who grew up in a Tagalog household and this was so helpful to
"grandma do you remember buying that for me back then?"
He said dati means back or back then
i did not understand the spiderman in netflix bit.
It's now pretty common for Filipino charactiers to be in an American movie/show, but the legit Pinoy accent is that makes this one just perfect. True representation especially since THERE ARE A LOT of Pinoys in America.
If that were true, most Filipinos I know wouldn’t be playing Chinese, Mexican, or Hawaiian characters. Name me one Filipino actor playing a Filipino in a non-Filipino production.
@@ReviewBoard-uy5nv Jacob Batalon as Ned Leeds in Spider-man. He even has a grandma speaking Filipino and all :D
@@ReviewBoard-uy5nv Manny Jacinto played Jason Mendoza in The Good Place one of the main characters, Vincent Rodriguez as Josh Chan in Crazy Ex Girlfriend, Vanessa Hudgens as Stacy in the Princess Switch and Tobit Raphael as Yo-yo Santos in The Internship. Though Stacy and Yo-yo's characters are not centered on their nationality, it was mentioned they are Filipinos. The first two were very fleshed out Filipino characters.
But not all Filipinos in America have Tagalog as their primary language.
Hearing Mateo speaking Tagalog without an accent is trippy. 😳
There’s also an episode on Grimm about the aswang. Some scenes, they spoke tagalog without the accents too.
I agree, sometimes they hire Filipino actors but when they speak, the accent is sooo americanized
Anyone notice that Marcus actually holds his end of the pact when everyone finds out and tells people he lives in the store
It’s just amazing to hear your mother tongue in a american tv show.
"And I'm Filipino."
*raises eyebrow*
So Proud of him to represent Filipinos👏👏👏
Mateo, 'pare..you should've known that when your lola took you to Recto for "green card" shopping lol
😁
He is not a pare. He is a Mare, He is A She
@@Mudsville1being gay doesn’t mean they’re trans 🤦
Lol that Tagalog was awesome
Ageless Martial Arts Las Vegas he is a Filipino anyway
I mean not all filipinos speak Tagalog since the Philippines has 100s of other languages and dialects
@JL January I don't think your definition of the word "dialect" is correct. A dialect only applies when two languages are intelligible and speakers of one dialect can communicate with another speaking a different dialect of a common language. The Philippines has hundreds of languages, and the major language groups have dialects between them.
@JL January Languages, not dialects. Mali ang tinuturo sa school natin.
@JL January That is not right. Some teachers taught Filipino students these wrong knowledge about languages and dialects. To make this clear, languages are Tagalog, Kapampangan, Hiligaynon, Chavacano, Ilocano, etc. Example of dialects are Bulakenyo Tagalog and Batangueno.
wow! Filipino now is a character in a TV Series.. cool
Crazy Ex-Girlfriend's Josh Chan is Filipino
The Good Place's Jason Mendoza is a Filipino, too.
Oliver Hampton in How To Get Away With Murder is Half-Filipino too. Also Drew Wu from Grimm.
Boom. Nood nood rin.
joecruz I love the episode about aswangs in Grimm.
The 'Green Card Store' LOL
yung pag add nya ng "so" sa tagalog nya very casual filipino lang talaga haha aliw
Im starting to watch the whole series of this.
This is gold!!!
I cringed at how badly Glenn butchered how to pronounce "Manila"
i think it was intentional
fah sure it's intended
It was intended. Duh.
That was the joke anuber
Ironically, it were Americans who gave that name.
Wow! He still speaks very good and legit Filipino accent! 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
He grew up in the Philippines until he was 16.
I love the scene. It is just like freedom from discrimination of how should treat each other.
Perfect 👍
Love it!💗
I must watch this show. Its freaking hilarious! It cracked me up so much
GURL love this, love the filipino representation 🇵🇭
I love him he is so sassy lmao
hahahahhaa thats was funny... you are an American and I am a Filipino stab himself with the pin hahahahhahahahahaha that was priceless
Yeah lol
Nice one
he also in the movie of paul blart: mall cop 2. he is the hotel front desk
Lmao!! Can’t stop laughing ! I wanna download the whole series!!!
WTF STUDIO INC. download it legally
The entire series is on Hulu. I watch it every night lol
yas
I like this .
Not that I don’t love this scene and appreciate what it’s trying to do. But I want to point out that just because your not a citizen doesn’t mean your in the country illegally. There are plenty of people legally in this country that aren’t citizens. This is a common misconception.
what episode is this from
Ohhhh the flag on mateo chest so proudddddddddddd!
Loooooove it. ❤️❤️❤️
Which season and episode is this?
I understood all of this
I love Superstore ... pilipino loves it
1:33 Glenn: Your an American. And im Filipino 😂
Mateo: 🤨
Nico's "WTF face" is my favorite thing hahahah
proud pilipino here💪
OMG. This is so real, thank you Mateo for just emancipating this reality. :))) Yeah, Filipinos are Asians and this is our reality.
Love this show hahah
Where can
I watch this?? It's not on Netflix 😭
I didn't see it coming. ❤️🇵🇭🇵🇭🇵🇭
Hahaha funny! And Yeyyy for having a filipino actor in amainstream Ameican Show...loved it!!
The ending is funny 😆
Why is the audio peaking so bad in this?

Hello recommendation
“At pwede natin panoorin ang Spider-Man legally sa Netflix???”
I just laughed so hard 😂😂😂😂
Man-eye- la Looooool
He's defending asians and filipino💗
I have yet to see a Filipino nurse in the many medical shows they have on TV. As Michael Che said, try going to a hospital and you will for sure see a Filipino nurse there.
There was a Filipino nurse in one of the episodes of Grey's Anatomy wherein Miranda Bailey had to reassure a rude patient that he's getting the best care from a nurse who happened to be from the Philippines
Hayup! 😂😂😂
Who cares? As long as you love the USA and willing to defend her, you're an American. 🇸🇽🇺🇸
Technically, you are wrong.
I bet that hurts . But I feel proud
I wanna friking migrate to the us and be an actor too!
hundreds have done that... those who almost made it huge were destroyed by Pinoy Pride Trolls. A Filipino actress almost became part of Harry Potter. But too much Pinoy Pride online made producers cringe.
Mateo sounds like my tito
Haha your american and im a filipino haha amazing
I hate that Sayid snitched on Mateo but I also understand he was scared that he could get caught up in it. I just really hate that he snitched on him and it lowkey makes me really dislike Sayid. Plus he gives me serious #immigrantsfortrump vibes lmao
Ang galing nya mag Tagalog
Thats because he was born and raised in the Philippines and only emigrated in the US when he was 16. 😉
Time to get married 😂
Funny there is a Filipino character and he works in Cloud Nine!!! Filipino chocolate bar cloud 9 heha!
I've been crying for almost an hour because of my Babies (my inaanak) they left for good (change of location to live and after I saw him slap that pin on his chest... Wahahaha... Its killing me...
"MANAYLA" 🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣
Just laughing😀😀😀😀

pany hahahaha!
Hahahah
I just find little humor in this as an American married to a filipina cannot get a visa for my wife of 6 years or our other children even though two are American citizens. Our country is shameful
" suddenly discovered"? how can mature adults no know at some point???
It happens all the time actually. If you’re brought into the country illegally as a child, how are you suppose to know the difference? It’s easy to have counterfeit items like a birth certificate and whatnot that you may not realize is false until you apply for a certain job or school. There are countless stories of people who have lived their lives here thinking they were citizens only to find out they were not born here and brought in by their parents as infants.
Lol, pretty funny.
😂
For what
Hahahaha
Look at that pin..a Ph Flag..
I justhope every white people are understanding like that boss to all undocumented and really know what is going on and what really happened in the past of how america needed people to be in their country but once you find them useless already you deport them. American logic? Idk .. i just hope they do realize that America is a country we (Fil perspective or any immigrant) hope to one day go to have a better life. But I realize that America, too, is not perfect in all aspects.
lol
the guy who said "american blue jeans pants" is also "gay". why? i have never heard anybody talk like that ever, except here. very strange. i dont believe that people are allowed legally in any country without being documented. or are we going back to the 1600's?
Hahhahahah
What a weird
So 😂😂😂😂
