Nice video mate, and beautiful sword, keep it up :3
ps: Hello from the Metatron ;)
old meta lel
Hello old Metatron!
Question: Could you take a sword made out of inferior steel and do a hardening treatment on the blade?
I recently discovered that Albion didn't stop the production after they reach the maximum number of swords allowed for that limited edition. I have an Albion Crecy, limited in 500 pieces worldwide, but when i asked Albion how many Crecy were made including mine they said that they didn't know. They just continue to product swords even after they have reached the number because "this is my number one seller" they said. I understand why because the swords they make deserve any dollar they ask, but i was very disappointed because i was happy to posses a limited edition piece. I love Albion Anyway.
This is the only producer of my collection - seven swords Albion.
then why is the Gallowglass sold out then? maybe it was breaking and getting warrantied? Perhaps they just discontinue when personal business reasons comes to the surface
Great review! Had the pleasure of handling the Ringeck before I gave it to my buddy as a wedding gift. Needless to say it was one of the highlights of the party. People including my buddy were just astounded by the craftmanship and many had no clue that a medieval sword could be so nimble, sharp and well balanced. And man that point is just wicked. Getting the wasted wire wrapped talhoffer myself. Cheers!
*waisted* ;)
I would love to know how the talhoffer is as a whole, I am planning on getting one ASAP.
Would really love you to start listing distal taper when you list stats on your sword reviews.
It's very difficult to overstate the importance of distal taper when it comes to how a sword feels in hand and performs during cut testing.
This stat is often not listed by manufacturers (mostly because very few manufacturers make blades with distal taper), so it might be good to invest in a set of digital calipers so you can measure this yourself.
Love the background music. Great reviews and great channel.
Your videos are very well made and pretty awesome. Your channel needs to be discovered, it's pretty awesome! :D
Please keep making those videos, it's very intresting to see. And now I know which sword I'm gonna buy next :)
+Avatarzuko00 i second this
how has it taken me this long to find this channel?!
Excellent job reviewing this sword. I'm subscribed and looking forward to what's in store
Wrong post bruh...
I've been looking for a review of this sword for about two years now, thank you for posting this. I've used a couple Albion swords that share the Ringeck's blade and I still prefer the overall look of the Ringeck. I also have the their type XIII Kingmaker which is also magnificent. I would say for a general downside the only major one is the lack of any kind of scabbard with the Albion swords. For the price range they are in not at least including a sheath is a little ridiculous and it's my only major complaint. The swords themselves are outstanding and their customer service is awesome as well. I have seen one of my HEMA instructors break his Albion blunt longsword during a fight and they replaced it free of charge, and that was the second time. They back up their products on top of the wonderful quality. If they would just add a sheath or scabbard, then I would consider them the perfect buy.
+xxBOUNTYxxHUNTER whats even worse is the scabbards they offer aftermarket are often priced as much as or more than the sword they protect. lol. still awesome though
Nice man, I went for the Knecht MkII in the end, but the problem with getting something like an Albion is that you want to get another one as soon as you see and feel how good it is! I'm actually looking into getting something custom next, after successfuly getting a scabbard made for the Knecht.
Anyway nice videos dude, good mix of review and history
Jack Bessant The Knecht is one I've had my eye on, but I don't know that it will be the Messer I'l buy. I agree... Albion swords are like crack.
This is my dream sword, thanks for the review!
Aidan Blake It certainly always caught my eye.
Excellent job with these sword reviews
This is just the kind of sword I have always looked for. I have played some games with similar and I have always thought it to be my favorite sword. This is the closest weapon I can compare it to. I am glad to learn a big more about it. You earned a sub :)
Great review. I've been considering purchasing the Albion Ringeck or the Talhoffer for a while now. Thanks for the insight.
I love the tapering on the blade it's beautiful
Are you ever going to make videos again? I enjoyed them very much.
You are slowly and surely turning me into an Albion fan boy as well 😄
Fantastic review of an awesome sword. I own a Crecy myself. Not sure where you call home but if you're near me, I would be more than happy to lend it to you for a review. The more high quality reviews like these really help the collectors.
+Alex Moranz I live is Georgia, USA
well blast I am in Missouri
God, I love that sword.
Not only that but I really like you chairs and especially the painting behind you.
Danlu05 The painting is "The Accolade" by Leighton
Thanks for a great review. I'm more of a big sword guy but this has actually made me appreciate longswords more, via that "excalibur" effect.
+Stilesda Longswords are great. =)
Does this sword come with a scabbord, and if not is there anyone I can commision to make one?
As always, great reviews, great music. I appreciate that. I’m certain that the entire run of this line of swords must be completed by now. I am looking for something that is equivalent in size, proportions, and weight. What I seek though, is possibly an even lighter balance, or a slightly longer handle. Can you recommend a sword from any manufacturer which is very much the same as this, but has perhaps an 11 or 12 inch handle, all other values being the same?
You'll be hard pressed to find a handle that long with other properties being the same, but maybe this one from Lockwood? lockwoodswords.com/product/the-sl-1006-medieval-sword-900-00/
Nice video! Really makes me want to get this as my first sword since it looks great and is pretty affordable as far as Albion swords go. Only really on the fence because I don't know if starting with a really good sword will ruin the quality of others if that makes sense lol
I live in Australia now (moved from the US). I’m always jealous when I see these as I’d love to collect them and do backyard cutting (play), but unfortunately (even with guns and body armour) the police just don’t feel safe if the populace have anything might be called a weapon. Even thinking of something as a weapon here, makes it a weapon. If I came up with a way to use a spoon for self defence it would legally be considered a weapon (no joke). Even armour (how much more defensive can something get) is illegal here. God forbid the people should be able to defend themselves in Australia (even at home).
TLDR, that looks awesome and I wish I could buy one!
the only state with any restrictions on swords is Victoria, if you're anywhere else in the country you may purchase as many swords as you want without reprimand
Sheeple get the government they deserve.
@@Kyle-sr6jm yes very useful comment. I’m sure you live well and free of all restrictions.
After what seemed like an age of waiting and then some dicking about with customs, my ringeck finally arrived a few weeks ago! love love love it! Also love seeing my friends faces when i tell them how much it cost lol.
Hey, figured I would ask this question under and appropriate video. I recently got the Hattin Falchion by Windlass, and have been noticing the weight (almost 3lbs) and balance and starting to make an old wrist injury act up. In your opinion, if I have my leading wrist weaker than my other wrist, would I be ok just using a lighter better balanced one-hander, or a two-hander?
yes? i think both will help, but keep in mind that any of these options will still be stressful on your wrist over time. one option as well is to use a compression brace that will help you to lock your wrist in place a bit more so you rely less on using your wrist in cuts. whatever you do will be a modification. you can also try to start using your of hand if you have the coordination for that. I would suggest a compression brace as an inexpensive starting point. also a doctor to give you real medical advice.
Nice sword. I've been interested in buying the Albion Sempach or the Albion Earl myself.
Albion swords are fantastic. I may be a fanboy too. I have The Solingen, 2x The Knight and a 13th century knightly sword. I am looking at some of the Valiant swords, but albions The Talhoffer have 1st priority. I also have a couple of Angus Trim XVIIIb's (they are also awsome) and a Bronce Age Foundry leaf blade. I enjoy your vids very much btw.
I know this a little late but what stand are you using to display the sword? I want to but one for my swords
The point of balance stand? www.thingiverse.com/thing:707545
Also, I like this one: www.thingiverse.com/thing:2552958
The oxblood wrap there looks brown - or is that just the video/YT? Thanks.
+malthus101 Albion's Oxblood is a brownish red: www.albion-swords.com/swords/albion/nextgen/grips.htm
I ordered mine from Kult of Athena for $854. How long is the typical wait time?
A year
The Ringeck and The Principe are in my future for sure...
Excellent review!
Could you also review a Danelli rapier and one of the Albion Viking swords such as the Huskarl?
If I ever get one of them, either of my own out borrowed I will.
Also SirPilkington, as in Karl Pilkington? imagine him being knighted!
+Medieval Review Great, I'm looking forward to it!
And yes, SirPilkington as in Karl Pilkington. I reckoned the absurdity of the combination would make for an original name.
Simple elegance, indeed. Best looking longsword repro I've come across.
First video

Very awesome content, keep up the good work! :D
awesome
really glad I got to see a video of this sword
I really wish they would put this guard/pommel combination on a crecy blade. Would buy that in a heartbeat.
Dude... I'm so jealous of your collection.
*Achievement Unlocked* - Made KnightSquire Jealous
*Achievement Unlocked* - Made Ninja Eugene Jealous
I dunno about Eugene... How many wall hanger $30 Katanas do you own? XD
Good point... technically 0. =)
That table stand, did you make it yourself or is it available to purchase somewhere?
How loud is the sword wind on this sword?
thats been my favourite sword since three months. i love oakeshott 7 crossguards, t scentstopper pommels, and... well everything about it, actually. only thing id want to add to it would be... just making the hilt a few cantimetres longer, and maybe a less pronounces waist, i like the way waisted grips look but i just like the feel of tapered ones better, so the perfect sword is, for me, drum roll please!...:
the albion ringeck with a hilt thats a little longer and has a slightly less pronounced waist, black leather on the hilt and blackened steel for the pommel and crossguard
my absoloute wildest dream
aside from a full suit of late 15th century plate harness
Informative review. If you are going to get one longsword, the Ringeck should be one of the options considered.
I see the swards on the wall with out a case, and I was just wondering how you keep them shiny in consideration of humidity, condensation etc. so they don't get even speckles of rust?
leonardo1480 regular oiling, or Renaissance Wax
thanks for info!
Albion blades are amazing!
Never seen a bad one, but WOW the price!
They remind me of Paul Reed Smith guitars.
The best, but you have to want one badly!
im saving money for The Munich longsword from albion for my 18 Birthday :DD
ever tried any Elgur swords?
what is it about angus trim that makes them cut so well? he challenge the guys at albion to a cut test and they pretended he wasn't there and walked buy. they were scured
I wish I could buy one right now!!!
That sword looks perfect.
Oh my god is that magnificent...it sounds pretty common, but i adore Albion's work
I've heard that they use 6150 High Carbon steel.
Simple elegance is, what I search for in swords. Thats, why "Swordmaker" (on facebook), ElGur and Gael Fabre are my favourite craftsmen.
Great blade, great review, however i would say that you overswing the cuts, one should train them the way they would be used in a fight, your hands are open to attacks, you should lead the cut with the blade.
Hello medieval review! I dig your channel. have you purchased or looked at a scabbard for a sword this nice? Or where might one look for first or third party scabbard sources? Keep up the great work.
DBK Scabbards.
Medieval Review
Cool thanks man! Have you bought one of their scabbards? I would love to see a review.
How does the Albion Ringeck compare to the Albion Sempach?
Looking to get my 1st Albion and I can't decide between these 2!
I suffer from that same dilemma
Ringeck (also Fiore)isn`t a good cutter, actually a bad cutter but a great thrust sword. Sempach (also Landraf) are ok to good cutters while also great thrusters.
hey man its perfectly fine to be an Albion fan boy. im actually trying to decide on either the Landgraf or the Baron... i think i might be so scrawny for the Baron. 3 lbs 11 ounces might be a bit slow for my size, but they both look amazing.
Nice video and sword! I subbed. Im thinking of the Viceroy, with a ricasso on it, any thoughts on it compared to the Ringeck?
+flintrocks The blade tapers less, so it is more effective as a cutting sword. Most everything I said about quality and construction will apply.
+Medieval Review Thank you for the reply! Cutting sword always were my preference, that hollowground ricasso was making me a little hesitant though. Think i can overlook that now!
Love the review. Just wish you didn't reference ARMA in it!
the blade is thin enough. the reason why bottles tumble/fly over is because of the edge alignment during strokes.
proper aligned edge to swing arc results in a "samurai esque perfect cut." you can then glare menacingly afterwards
You are the only other person I have seen who has been able to say it better than I can; "Simple Elegance". 100% man I love a clean, good looking sword. top sword porn here lol
Thanks for the awesome review! Do you know why this sword does not have a fuller while another Albion sword like the Sempach does?
aradespiel88 They are distinctly different sword designs, the Ringeck is an Oakeshott type XVa while the Sempach is a type XVII. These swords are designed to match exact typologies. By having a fuller on the Ringeck you would fundamentally change the typology.
There are a few of differences between these swords; the cross section of the Ringeck is a diamond, while the Sempach is hexagonal. The fuller, sword length, and balance are different as well. Additionally Type XVa swords have a strong ridge down the blade, and adding a fuller would undermine both the strength of the blade design as well as the balance across both the center of gravity and the center of percussion.
Keep in mind the purpose of the fuller in a sword is to lighten the blade (as well as re-adjusting the balance) and maintain structural strength. Fullers did not exist in every sword historically, and in fact it wasn't until the high middle ages that swords without fullers became common, as they were more and more being designed with thrusting in mind and that changed the blade shape to design that did not need fullers, or did not need blade length fullers, and you see more and more shorter length fullers (or again, none at all).
+Medieval Review I love the xva. I'm waiting for a mercenary to arrive and the lack of a fuller is part of the blade type's appeal for me. They are the sword of the hundred years war, for me, and very apt for Fiore's plays both in armour and without. Excellent review... it's hard not to be a fan of quality!

I really love the new A&W adds, they're funny in a time whewre adds are always obnoctious
+Tyler Amon The what now? I don't have control over the ads played on my videos. Those are targeted ads that CZcams handles.
Sorry my comment doesn't relate to your video in any way. I just found the A&W add entertaining! xD
I don't own any swords and am somewhat interested in learning sword techniques, but I simply just want to get a exceptional quality sword just to own, admire and pass down to my future children, which is why I'm trying to decide between this or the Talhoffer. How long does it take to receive the sword, and does Albion offer any type of payment plan? Awesome review!
Right now the Albion delivery time for a direct order may be well over a year. You can buy their swords through reselllers such as Kult of Athena. I believe Albion does have a payment plan process.
Great video showcasing a beautiful sword.
I don't know if I would call it a bastard sword however.
Bastard swords are not necessarily longer that one handed sword. The only thing that is really longer is the grip.
It is basically a one handed sword that can be comfortably held with two hands.
So it was a bastard between one handed and two handed swords. Hence the name.
A longsword is longer and build with the intent for two handed use.
This sword should be an example of that.
I mean... it is one of the shorter "longswords". One might still consider it a bastard sword when stretching the word.
I prefer the Scandinavian greatsword by sugoi steel. Underrated and nimble for it’s size.
Yo dude! I just ordered my first Albion sword. I got a recommendation for a video unless you have already made it. How do you oil/ wax your swords?
I did a "how to clean" video. at the end of it I think I talked about how to oil. get some 3-1 oil and a soft cloth put a healthy spot of oil on the cloth and buff it into the blade. finishing be gently wiping down the blade with a clean part of the cloth. Waxing it is very similar. if you oil you need to do it once per week for regular usage. if you wax it, use the right type of wax. like "renaissance wax". it should last 6 months.
What sword did you get?
soundtrack?
They do have a layaway plan, which would make owning them affordable for many people. Plus, if your one from KoA, you can pay with PayPal credit and, won't have to pay the sword off for 6 to 12 months, depending on the price.
im a newer sword collector, so this may sound dumb. but i always cringe when i watch people to cut tests on water filled containers. im more than sure you know what you're doing, but doesn't that help speed up rust? im sure if you dry it off and oil it in a timely manner its not a big deal, but what kinda window do you have to dry it off and re-oil it afterward, or how long can you expose the blade to moisture before you need to worry?
Back from fire fighting and I'm ordering one this week, thanks man.
+robert paulson Literal fire fighting? If so, thank you for the service you provide.
Yes I work for PatRick Environmental in Springfield Oregon we are Wilde Land Fire Fighters. You are very welcomed, thank you for saying that, we don't get allot of recantation from the public. I was talking to you back in May about what kind of steel blunt to get for HEMA (my name was Goregutz) but I cant get back into that account for some reason. I now have 4 firefighters that are practicing longsword, now that I have a bad ass computer I'm going to get some filming gear and start a youtube channel my self. Thanks for all that you do on your channel,it is a breath of fresh air. Cheers Comrade.
+robert paulson awesome! yeah, regenyei feders are good steel blunts. also Albion blunts are good, but not always accepted at tournaments. Thanks again!
How hard would it be to get your hands on the Albion Viceroy for a review?
+Denis Jackson I don't know anyone who has one, so I'd either have to buy it or borrow one. Neither is likely to happen anytime soon I'd wager a guess. I can say it would probably be a highly rated sword, based on my experience with Albion, but I try to reserve judgement until I get a chance to actually experience one in person.
I agree, with everything. I have been thinking along the same lines
he needs more subs
If I could choose one it would be the Albion "The Baron" or "The Crecy" they are so beatiful...
Personally, I like the Ljubljana, but admittedly that may have something to do with being a total Slavaboo...
My Ringek arrived about 2 weeks ago, its awesome! I just want to purchase that table stand instead of making one, because I'm lazy.
Thx for review, now i want this sword :)
Man I want one of these
What companies would you consider to be on a par with Albion?
Cameron John Robbins Christian Fletcher/Arms and Armor. Then there are plenty of sword smiths who do commission work who I would rank right up there with Albion as well. But I can't speak from personal experience on those.
Цена мечя и как где можно купить?
Two questions:
1) Have you considered buying a scabbard for the sword?
2) What kind of maintenance does a sword like this require?
Thanks in advance for any answers.
What a Good Name
1) Yes, I'll likely buy a DBK custom scabbard for this and one of my other Albions.
2) Like any sword made from high carbon steel, it needs to be either regularly oiled, and certainly I oil it after every use, or a good wax coating (such as Renaissance Wax)
2.1) IF upkeep fails and there is any rusting, a scotch-brite green scourging pad and some Flitz metal polish will clear it right up. Those things are miracle workers.
Medieval Review Thanks for the reply. If you do purchase scabbards for your swords, do you plan on doing reviews for those as well? I'd love to know if you believe the scabbards to also be worth the fairly high price.
Yes, my plan is to review things that I feel like reviewing. Certainly I'd be more inclined to review the expensive items, because I'd want to talk about them. Right now I have my Albions displayed blades bared, so I'm not in a hurry to buy a scabbard for it.
Great review, what do you think of the DEL TIN swords?
+TangSooDoArnis4Life Overbuilt. Too heavy. Nice though ^^
+Blank- blade it really depends on the specific sword. I own a few del tins and they are not heavy at all. Anyway in their price range they are good. Compared to others they have a really historically accurate design, weight and balance.
Thank you
don't get me wrong Albion swords are my favorite but I want to know if it's tough enough for more tougher than Dark Sword Armory or Valiant Armoury or any other company?
I bought a Darksword armory feder a while ago. The blade broke off at the hilt after 1 hour of normal use, just during my HEMA class (embarrassing). They replaced it, but the new one I got the edge was chewed up like a saw blade after 2 hours of use. I can't speak for one of their sharps but if it's anything like their feders I wouldn't recommend Darksword Armory. If you're looking for a feder I would suggest on from Regenyei armory through HEMA Supplies. I recently bought a sharp from Windlass Steelcrafts, the Bosworth Longsword. It came sharpened, although not very sharp. I'm MUCH happier with windlass although I did need to by whetstones to sharpen the thing.
Darksword is *very* hit or miss, which, in my opinion, is unacceptable when paying $400-700 for a sword. If I'm going to be paying that price for a sword, I want to know what I'm getting. While I certainly don't expect Arms & Armor or Albion quality for that price, there is a certain standard which must be met. IMO Valiant Armoury is your best bet for a mid-price sword. While they aren't exactly historically accurate and they have their fair share of problems, it's to be expected at that price range. And they come with scabbards, with really excellent custom leatherwork in both the scabbard and the grip. As an added bonus, Sonny at VA is a great guy to work with, and if you want a custom-ish sword (Marsille blade on Rhinelander hilt, for instance) he's open to that.
TL;DR: Albion > Valiant Armoury > Darksword
+Praise the Fish hey bud I'm going to buy the Valiant Armoury marseille
Great vid! And beautiful sword, def looks battle ready.
what about cutting? is it good?
oh yeah it's fine at cutting. a little harder due to blade shape, bit it does just fine.
What's the name of the background song?
it's in the credits at the end of the video, it's called "Rites"
+Medieval Review Thank you!
I really want the Regent myself.
The Regent is an absolutely wonderful sword. If you have the money, get one.
Id luv a sword like that. Ringek
what's the toughest European sword you would recommend me?
Well the Ringeck is pretty awesome. :) probably one of my all time favorite swords.
+Medieval Review that's not a response to my question what do you consider or what maker of Swords you consider makes the toughest swords?
When you say tough, that can come from a tradeoff in other factors... Zombie Toools are "tough" but they can also handle like a crowbar. If you want super tought, you should get something custom made with the best possible steel. Barring that Albions are tough swords. So are A&A, and plenty of smith can be commissioned for tough swords.
Thank you. Just subscribed.
What color did you get for the grip?
Oxblood. kind of a reddish brown.
Medieval Review Thanks!
have the same painting in the background
Okay, I HAVE to know- that picture at the beginning with the goat- WHERE DID YOU FIND THAT?
You talking about the bull doing his thing on the guy with the shield?
+Medieval Review Yes!
+Lucas Caruthers This is likely going to be the weirdest thing you'll learn today. Its called a Bonnacon... enjoy: en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bonnacon
+Medieval Review I learned something today lol.
Do you like curved blades at all? like saber or cutlass?
Certainly, I have a few cutlass, one sabre, and a few katana. I imagine I will acquire more sabers over time. I actually really enjoy the use of sabres.
That's really cool, love the channel :)
Look like the Albion Mercenary, although the Mercenary is more cut and thrust, the Ringeck seems primarily focused on the thrust.
I'm still waiting on my Ringeck to show up. I've ordered it a month ago, and hope I don't have wait an other. :(
Thunder Bird Since they don't carry swords in stock, it takes a while.
That's what he said over the phone, but it doesn't make it an easier lol. But comparatively speaking it's still shorter than the now eight month wait just to start my order with a blacksmith.
Now, Idk how tight your money is and how willing you are to just buying a new sword for around $1,000, but if you're in search of another, there's this guy who goes by the swords path, he makes a sword based off of the witcher and it looks really nice, I want it but I myself am really new to all this and I don't want to take a chance on something so expensive that hasn't any reviews. When I buy something, I want the purchase to be worth it and I also just really like the look of it, thank you for your time!!
Hey Medieval Review! I'm curious how long did you have to wait to receive your sword?
Matthew Springer buying directly from Albion these days means waiting more than a year. if you want on e quickly you should buy through a reseller.
Medieval Review Thank you for the response. But I still think it's worth the wait. hahah
Anyways love your content!!! Have a great day.
I'm gonna get one
and I really want to know your opinion as I respect your point of view and like your videos
that's a very nice-looking reproduction of leighton's "accolade" behind you. mind telling me where did you get it from?
Design Toscano.
Medieval Review
thanks for the prompt reply.
I may have purchased one because of your review... Should be coming in a few months :D
I had been looking at it for a while ant it will be my first Albion that I'll own.
Awesome, you got a Ringeck or another one?
The Ringeck :D
I had been eyeing it for a while, but your review prompted me to get one :)
I can;t wait until it arrives.
This is one beautiful sword indeed! I like the swordstand too! Did you make it yourself?
Yes I did. the sword stand is 3D printed
That is fancy! Im going to attempt and make one out of wood.
First off, you can't be an "Albion fanboy". Quality is quality. good taste.
