Some unsuspecting drivers have been left with thousands of dollars in damage to their cars after filling up at a popular gas station in Queens. CBS New York's Kristie Keleshian reports.
The gas station did not mean to harm their car, but there was a damaged pump that ruined their cars. The gas station should be responsible for fixing these cars.
I got the same problem with contaminated gasoline from a Shell Gas Station. After 10mins leaving the gas station, check engine light was blinking, all warning light came up and engine started shaking horribly. I took my car to Honda dealer, and got a quote for a total of parts, labor and after tax for 4400$ ( including replacing fuel pump, replacing fuel injector and new spark plugs). I knew it was a ripoff but trust me, small shops wouldn’t have any ideal how to fix it. If u ever have the same problem, make sure u keep all the receipts from the gas station, invoices from repairs and especially reports from dealers about bad gasoline, the sample of that contaminated gasoline if possible. Then filing a complaint with the gasoline company, and contact with the gas station to get in contacted with their insurance company. Of course, it would take times for investigation. However, they would make reimbursement eventually. I got my reimbursement back after a month for everything I have spent to fix my car. And my car is driving as it never has any problem after the dealer services. Hope everybody in this video would have their reimbursements back after the fixing. 😢
They're not sure if it was from the storm but it's likely. That's why they used hedging language, not because they were unsure if there was water in the pumps.
@@mia1shooterit’s on the highway. Like literally in the middle island of the highway. Anyone within 40 miles of it could use it if they are on the grand central I generally do t use highway gas stations because they are expensive. Rather hit the local streets and get gas there, but it’s convenient if you have to get to where you’re going fast.
These things are more common than you think. Most gas station have 30-50 year old underground tanks. I usually don't fill up during rain or the day after.
Can you do a segment on what actions consumers should/can take if this happens? What to ask for from the station? How to work through this with the gas station, your auto insurance, and any public officials that can help?
The Gas station/Supplier should be 100% liable. It’s their job to constantly check for contamination and fuel economy. Probably had been going on for a while and just now, had gotten worse.
Wow damaged cars? I wrenched for a long time, drained more than one fuel system for water contaminated fuel, no damage once drained, topped off with clean fuel. I would really like to know what has changed that it damaged spark fuel pumps, injectors and plugs, sounds like the shops are grifting to ensure they get their cut
Driver must remove and replace caps during delivery. If a station employee measures the tank morning or afternoon same deal. Drivers also have to make sure dropping right product in each tank
It happens. There's a gas station close to where I live that floods whenever there's a heavy rain. The water sits directly on top of the storage tanks for days until it runs off.
Water in the tank does not cause damage to injectors or fuel pump or spark plugs , Just drain the system and refill with gas , those mechanics are thieves , I'm a mechanic with 40 years of experience.
I got the same problem with contaminated gasoline after filling up at a gasoline station. After 10mins leaving the station, check engine light blinking, my car couldn’t accelerate over 30mph, and shaking horribly. I took my car to Honda dealership; they quoted me the same services, changing fuel pump, 4 spark plugs, and new fuel injector with total labor and tax came out 4.400$. Even though, I knew they would rip me off with that silly price. However, I had no choice but let them fix it. (Because my car had been in several shops without knowing what was the real problem) Fortunately, I could make a claim with Shell company and had them open an investigation for that. Eventually, last week I got all the reimbursement back from the gas station’s insurance. Hopefully, all the car owners in this video would have their reimbursements back from the gas station’s insurance companies. They are responsible for that.
They have a giant version of the GFCI outlets found in your home. The real power will not flow until all the safety and other handshakes have passed. OTOH the connectors are built different than the plug on your toaster. They do resist arcing jut like the insulators on a power pole. There are a tome of CZcams vids of folk charging in bad weather. The bigger prob is the A**holes that are vandalizing the chargers.
EV charging stations are vastly uncovered and exposed to the elements. The charger itself is stored in the unit and even when plugging in a wet charger there is no issue with charging. Stop using this video on GAS cars as a way to create false narratives and spread misinformation about EVs.
Hard to believe the spark plugs were damaged. Worst case scenario is you take them out? You blow them off with air hit them with a little bit of carburetor spray and put them right back in. But definitely the fuel lines and gas tank have to be drained. Personally, I think the fuel pump was on its way out the door. Because getting it wet with water or water going into, it should not have damaged it whatsoever.
Don't be surprised if the gas station has an "electrical fire" because they didn't want to help the people they hurt. They got good money for bad gas and it's their response to make sure what they are selling is a quality product. Seriously...Why is that so hard to understand?
I never fill up gas at any on these on parkway or highway gas stations, because they’re always extreme;y over priced. Now I’m glad I never did due to this issue.
Many factors could be the issue. From contaminated fuel at the loading terminal, heavy rain and station gas tank delivery caps not sealed properly, heavy rain seeping through dome lids on top of trailer. All not done maliciously, iust not taking proper precautions if a heavy rain was involved.
Someone also stole my traffic cone in the middle of the night off the street which actually is an indicator to let people know my vehicle is parked there. Alot of stealing went on last night.
