Russian Foreign Minister Yevgeny Primakov held talks in Moscow with European Union Foreign Affairs Commissioner
Speaking after their meeting in the Foreign Ministry residence Hans Van Den Broek commented on Russia and the E-U's common interest in reaching a settlement in Kosovo.
Hans Van Den Broek, the E-U's Foreign Affairs Commissioner held talks with Primakov on a full range of issues, from the crisis in Kosovo to EU-Russian economic co-operation.
Kosovo is a particular sticking point in relations.
Moscow is a traditional ally of the Serbs.
But it was keen on Thursday to insist it shared the same strategic goals as the five countries in the Contact Group seeking a solution to the crisis in Yugoslavia's largely ethnic Albanian province.
    SOUNDBITE (English)
"The European Union and Russia share the main concerns about a number of foreign policy issues, whereby the Balkans and the Kosovo issue of course remains high on the agenda, but certainly also the enlargement process which is in interest to the European Union, to Russia as well."
SUPER CAPTION: Hans Van Den Broek, European Union Foreign Affairs Commissioner
Van Den Broek has made it clear that the West must be prepared to take military action in Kosovo if necessary.
Primakov has argued that such intervention will only lead to an exodus of Kosovo Serbs and lead to more violence.
