    • @gaia8840
      @gaia8840 Před 2 měsíci +30

      Can't really compare both. Muay thai is almost religious in thailand, not really similar to MMA. And again it is quite an exception when it comes to respect/tradition.

    • @BallBatteryReligion
      @BallBatteryReligion Před 2 měsíci +17

      Muay Thai's origins, both what's grounded in historical evidence and in legend/mythos lies in its original use and purpose as a system of martial combat. It was used for combat in war and conjoins well with other ancient, armed southeast Asian martial arts. The Muay Thai legend is of a great Thai soldier/warrior defeating nine of the best Burmese soldiers chosen by a king in unarmed death matches. The brutal efficiency with which he eliminated them earned the king's respect and his release. When he returned to Thailand and the locals asked how he did it; he told them of his lethal "art of eight limbs" and thus, Muay Thai began. It evolved into a sport steeped in the nation's culture and tradition. Our modern world has advanced tech for war and the detailed, artistic brutality of something like Muay Thai in service of murder and war is frowned upon now, but a necessity back then. Luthwei, btw is the Burmese version of Muay Thai. See how the pieces connect? Also, the original version of Jiu-Jitsu, (before Kano used it to create Judo which led to BJJ) was similarly a system of hand to hand combat designed for the samurai of feudal Japan for times when they didn't have access to a sword; but needed to end someone's life in service of violent conquest under the orders of their emporers and masters.
      Does that not sound...just a little barbaric to you?
      Violence is what's used to win wars, acts of violence are systemized and refined to be better tools for winning more wars. Even when the sport context was always present, like in Pankration: the level of brutality would make most modern people shudder. Not to say that there's no place for respect, honor and tradition. But be honest about the reality and history of what's being practiced.

    I can’t believe there was even a time where fighters took what they did more seriously than what we have now, we still have those clowns now but they’re less outspoken because they know they’re not taken as seriously. And Chael is 100% right, the fighters who fully acknowledge what mma and just cage fighting in general is, they typically have a much greater rapport with the audience and their careers go places faster than the guy who says “I do all my talking in the ring.” Case in point Sean Strickland.
    It’s not even about being a character at that point once you break it down that far. Being a character helps, but you don’t have to be one. It’s about being honest about who you are and what you’re doing and why you’re doing it. If you give the audience the answer to all of those questions we are far less likely to hate them or come to hate them when that fighter inevitably loses or does something embarrassing because they ALL do that. Or you can go the Ian Garry and Colby Covington route of just talk shit, talk shit, talk some more shit and be a complete character that people want to see lose. But even then there’s no mistaking here what Colby and Ian Garry are doing, even if it is a character act, they’re still able to garner attention purely because they give us the answers to what they’re doing (which is cage fighting) and why (for money and adoration of a drunken audience, us)

      oh shut up. he still kicks peoples asses for a living. what is not the case? the drunken audience might be the only thing. its still two half naked guys beating each other up for entertainment. from my experience these guys that harp on words like "honor" and such are the most fragile snakey crybabies that exist

      Khabib said, "I wanna fight your chicken because that is #1 easy fight in the LW division". That was before Conor said anything about Khabib. I don't see any humility here. People just remember who wins in the end and the winner just rewrites part of history.
      Stop spreading lies.

    Not my experience at all. 15 years of MMA and this is just nonsense. Theres insane amounts of respect and the fighters arent fighting for aplause. Chael is just stuck being fake.

      you have respect for your opponent but you step in the cage trying your best to possibly kill them for a pay check it's not that respectful

      Respect isnt gonna help you in a fight but I guess it does give you an advantage if you dont want to constantly be called out, but if everybody was respectful martial arts would be a lot less interesting

      @@tylerpitasi1843don't act like people kicking and punching and kneeing and ragdolling each other is some sort of sacred act.
      If GSP thought he could win by trash talking (or using steroids :gasp:), you know dam well that he would.

      @tylerpitasi1843 Před 2 měsíci

      @tannerhuxtable6118 you obviously havnt heard him talk. And yeah, if you don't want to treat it that way you don't have to. But anything can be done with decency and respect, alot of people like chael just want an excuse to be a douchbag. Watch muay thai fights in Thailand, more brutal than anything the ufc ever put on, but full of reverence, respect, and legit religious symbology.

  • @pepe3864
    @pepe3864 Před měsícem

    he's not right, look at muay thai, karate, jui jitsu, etc. They're all martial arts and each have their own way of respecting the art and the person. MMA and UFC is different, it still generally is about respect but most dont really like that
