- Today I'll be featuring a cruiser I haven't shown since last year, the incredibly squishy Shchors. This ship was requested since I just recently leveled past this one on my stream. As usual you can find my recommended build at the end.

The Shchors has the same problem as the Pensacola. People see it and say, "Yea! Free Citadels"
I honestly found this ship more difficult than the nurnberg. At least the nurnberg can dodge shells because it doesn't have battleship turn radius. Bismarck and Tirpitz literally have a smaller turn circle than the shchors and those are fucking tier 8 battleships
Russian Cruiser line is the most enjoyable tree to grind IMO. All of the ships are fun to play.

Thanks! I did badly in the Shchors at first because I was used to Cleveland and Budyonny, but it has grown into one of my favorite CLs. The ship handles well, so constantly changing speed and direction is easy and effective... most of the time. Every so often I just get deleted in the first 5 minutes. It happens.
This is the ship that finally taught me how to make the most out of a spotter plane. The guns are very accurate and trajectories fairly flat. You can shoot over islands and stay undetected, but you have to be farther back from the island to get over it. Also pay attention to flat trajectories is you are sharing smoke - where Belfast or Fiji shells go over your buddy Shchors may light them on fire. You just need to be farther back.
Don't underestimate the DD hunting capabilities. If you have a team mate spotter, you can hit DDs at almost max range. And set them on fire. They hate that. Just remember that Russian and affiliated DDs can pen you with AP (Anshan, Minsk/Leningrad, Kiev big time, etc.)

Great vid. again, thanks! As Flamu has previously explained how Priority target perk can be used to predict incoming torpedoes, there is a good example in this video at 5:55 when Graf Spee launch torps. See how the priority target (1) drops for a moment and appears again.
I had a very respectable average damage in her (around 96k) but my WR was atrocious at 48% in 33 games played during the grind. This thing reminds me of the French CA/CL line; you have to play passive at the beginning and be careful not to get smacked too hard. The title of your video should be its catchphrase.

Yea I just had a 98k match it was a loss I love the ship but if you ever HAVE to try to move in man good lord you get ate up
With 33 games in a ship a lot comes to chance when it comes to winrate
well...your ""WR"" is just luck of the draw in this ship. it's not really a carrying ship. getting stuck on a weak team in Shchors usually means a shitty game, bcuz you really cannot withstand ever getting focus fired.
I like mine in division with an American Destroyer..........now that's a good situation for Shchors......
Mmh, I personally like this ship, I found it great and (believe me or not) easy to play!
Very helpful video and I am just beginning my Shchors now. One thing I have noticed is cruisers vary dramatically in playstyle vs other classes.
Thanks for this video! I really was waiting for this one to pop up... i guess I should grind this ship before they nerf IFHE with reduced fire chance. My first two games after watching this went straight up to 100k and 150k, the little extra details and tips really help out... Here is to hoping the follow up will be a bit less annoying.

I used the spotter plane so I can start firing up the BBs from 19 Klm with out been spotted. They start retreating , I start chasing them. Some times my fire line is as good as an Atlanta. One of my best ships to play with.
That moment when a Tiger's front plate has more armour than Schors citadel armour, yet Schors's main guns are almost twice the caliber of the Tiger
This was enlightening. I didn't remember the shells being so floaty. Fortunately for those grinding the line, this characteristic disappears soon. Donskoi and Moskva shells are the complete opposite of floaty.
Third, Would flamu be interested in revisiting the KM DDs from T5 5o Z-52? It has been quite a while since you covered the line and substantial changes (paticulary on their bgun bloom ) has affected the line
"In general you are very unlikely to bounce AP shells unless you're angled," then he bounces a shell when he was not that angled. Now before you say that he said "in general" and these things can happen, I just thought it would be funny to mention lol.

It's a frustrating ship, if you get lucky and you have a nice team and the enemy doesn't shoot at you too much, than it's a pretty fun to play experience..
But you will have games with less than 20k damage where you died to a random battleship shell... Just a fair warning ;)
Also, Graf Spee slightly bigger guns? It has the same guns as the Scharnhorst, and the biggest guns of any cruiser. In a cruiser you have to be as careful vs a Graf Spee as you would vs a Battleship.

Shell velocity is lower on Graf Spee than on Scharnhorst, so you have less penetration power
And it can only Citadel BBs if they're incompetent. Even a slight angle is a shatter. Granted it can get great pen damage on the upper works. But saying it has the same threat as a BB is...inaccurate. Much less potential Damage in a salvo, much less pen, and the ship is actually quite squishy.

I tend to start my matches in the shchors with my spotter plane once enemy ships are sighted, so I can start pounding the enemy as soon as possible, at a range I am difficult to engage from.
Sometimes I get nuked before my first plane runs out lmao
Honestly looks like this ship is for me. I'm the player that pushes in and get's frustrated if my team mispositions but in this ship if your bbs decide to stay back it's fine you chill with them provide AA and shoot at things. Even if you lose it doesn't hurt that much

I remember once facing a schors in my kiev, he was on about half health showing full broadside to me, he fired one salvo at me, i returned with AP from the front guns, got a quad citadel and instantly killed him. He had no idea what happened haha

I play Shchors a lot but I'm really not sure if I can say if anything has changed or not compare to what you've shown from the vid.
Flamu, do a 2017 Aoba survival guide.
Get concealment expert and enjoy your excellent concealment. Be a ninja, strike hard with your good alpha damage, then slip back into hiding. Value survival over damage, try to make it to the late game because with that playstyle you need time to farm damage. Cap a lot at end game. Remember you got good torps and they should be used as much as possible, even from long range. I got a 56% win rate and mediocre damage rate using that that tactic, so it's doable,
Perfect summary, I dont understand why people hate the Shchors

You should do the Tier 8 Russian cruiser and the Tier 7 French Cruiser next. I find the Tier 7 French oddly fun
Personally, as a Pensacola and Bayern captain, I find the Schcors to be quite devastating and not like an "Exp Pinata" as you describe it. Perhaps it's just me or I always only run into exceptional Schcors captains, but I always find them to be extremely elusive and at some points you could have 3 to 4 ships shooting the guy and he only eats 5k damage.
Yeah, it is a l9ng range HE spammer. It is hard to be hit. That being said I have been triple citadelled by a NC while actively evading and being almost completely angled against his shells at max range. If you do hit, a quarter of the time you get a citadel. It is only when giving broadside that people get overpens on this.
I had a game in my Shchors where I only got 3 volleys of shells shot at me in the entire game, the thrid volley from a Tirpitz at 19km away killed me.... :(
I don't know what the peoples problem with the Shchors was. I liked the thing.
I had some really good games. I had one of my best cruiser games. 154k damage. ( a little unfair because my best cruiser game was in a Zao)
the little fire icons on enemy ships - is that in the game and I need to activate it in the options, or is he playing a test server? Or is it a mod?

Flamu can you tell me what is that mod in aslain to show the ship acitons like speed boost and burning next to the ship name.
The only problem with Schors is that all Mongoloids follow you no matter what. Which is why I preferred to have T9 matchmaking where it happens a bit less. After all, loved the ship, but had 42% WR with it (62% total).
You can be playing any ship and have the same problem. Thats why I always pretend to be afk at the beginning of the game if I spawn in the middle of the fleet. Because as soon as you start turning in one direction, the whole flank of mongs on the other side will follow you.
150k damage, 6 kills game in a Shchors? Yep!.................. If i ever wonder why i started to follow you're channel (as if) i just need to watch videos like this! GG!
Flamu, what do you reckon with the upcoming changes to IFHE? Still use them on ships like Kutuzov and Belfast even with the nerfed fire chance or respec with Demo expert and some other skill? Or is it to soon to say? I do love all those fires on those ships but then again that pure Alpha damage on those HE shells are pretty nice as well (and with that DPM you will still start some fires).

Shchors seems to have it better than Chapayev though, even if the latter had radar it feels just as squishy as Shchors but be pitted against T8~T10 MM which makes it even more painful facing the BBs at that tier.
I loved the Shchors.. hate the Chapayev though..

i just played a match against a nelson. he damaged cond 1 fire, and i began unloading on him, i set him on fire in 4 places, and his super heal couldnt save him got my first arsonist in a while lol. man the range is ass tho. im so used to my kutuzov lol. the HP is ass too :(

To me the DM plays similar in high tier. Very little room for error.

i enjoyed shchors more than budyonny, coz her 12 guns, the only cruiser that i struggle in soviet lines are kirov and donskoi, coz reloads
Exactly my thought, although i enjoyed budyonny more, it's small, with rudder upgrade fairly nimble, pretty fast and armor are pretty nice not mentioning the rail guns. In my opinion pretty close experience with svetlana. Schors in other hand you have to be extra careful. Think it like you take a pig armed with armed 12 railguns. It's big, it's clumsy, but you get 25% more fire power than budyonny and makes an excellent BB support ship. I played on Blitz so the range is pretty limited to 11.8 km. I hate kirov because the guns are amazing but ROF make it not suitable to hunt DD. I'll take ROF over damage output all day long because it suites me better

Can't believe they are nerfing IFHE for this ship too. It feels weak enough already. Nerf it on the Kutuzov, fine. But Schors doesn't really need a nerf.

most games i can only do 25k damage and i really hate the russian cruiser line....

I am getting decent xp and dmg but I can never get in a position to use my radar for my team or perform any team play. I basically hang out back and he spam till enough ships are dead and the area is clear to move up. I know this isn't optimal but any change I make to my strat is a pathetic death with no xp... a really frustrating ship... it feels like this is the most hurt ship from the stealth fire nerf but I need someone good to enlighten me as I am medicore at best.
David Jones Because that's basic Soviet cruiser gamrplay. Their gun have excellent Shell Velocity, so use that to bombard enemy from long range. At least that's what I know.
Yeah basically setup for hostiles having to chase your stern and kite them with HE. The ship gives you very little room to make a mistake. BB drivers know they can get some easy citadels on you as well. No need to wait for a broadside shot for them. Moskva is much much better.
I average 90k dmg at 16 battles (at least 1 I had zero damage because internet went out so it should be higher) but I dont necessarily stay a max range. I like to play really aggressive and multiple times have gotten into brawls with lower tier Battleships and have won. The Donskoi has great armor and doesnt have a huge side belt/citadel to hit compared to the Chap.
How can you struggle în this?It's such a badass ship if you don't rush like an idiot.

Baltimore must have issues they always die quick and I've beaten them 1on2 in a fucking pensecola.

Once you learn how to play her, the Schors is lethal. I really enjoy playing her but you have to be super aware. I use the incoming fire alert skill just to help with avoiding damage.

Man, do you really have to use Overpowered for evey ship that is good? The Budyonny is not OP. Just because there are worse tier 6 cruisers, it doesn't mean it is overpowered.
Between that and the "power creep" of the Iron Duke, your opinions have taken a hit in my book.
That means it's better, not that it is overpowered. If you user overpowered to describe anything that is better than the average, then nearly 50% of the ships are overpowered
Budyonny averages 33.6k damage in the last 2 weeks. The highest is 37k, and the lowest 27k. To me, it seems pretty average. But following your reasoning, if the Budy is OP, then so are both Graf Spees (although Flamu said it was crap and we should get the Scharnhorst instead), Molotov, De Grasse and Cleveland.
No, an overpowered ship (or character, plane, tank, whatever) is one that its own power is way above the rest of its peers.
Example: Flint (58k avg) and Belfast (52k avg) with 65% and 58% WR. The 3rd ship is at 42k/51.6%, and most tier 7 cruisers are around 35k damage and 50% wr. Now, that is overpowered.
But the Budyonny? Give me a break.

Just ignore the WR and average damage for a moment since most players in this game are kinda incompetent and only look at the ship itself. What are the Budyonni´s weaknesses? It has superb armor for a cruiser, is fast, relatively stealthy, has decent AA, excellent guns and gun performance with both HE and AP.
Furthermore, if you ignore the somewhat ridiculous tier 6 premium cruisers and only look at the regular ones, the Budyonni shits on all of them. A Nürnberg or Galisonnaire can not even hope to compete in any way against a Budyonni. Every other tier 6 cruiser has both the typical cruiser downsides (low HP pool, weak armor) and also often an additional disadvantage (Nürnberg with her gigantous citadel, Cleveland with her lazy arcs and so on). The Budyonni has no individual weakness and also not really any cruiser-specific weakness aside from the hp-pool, since her armor is simply brutal for a tier 6 cruiser.
The Budyonni basically combines all of the strenghts of the other tier 6 cruisers while having no particular weakness.
If that does not qualify a ship as overpowered or imbalanced, I don´t know what does.
Cleveland has a lot more firepower (actually, 33% more guns), is tankier, has a bigger HP pool, and GODLY AA. Those lazy arcs allow you to shoot behind islands easier. It has shorter range and it's slower, that's it.
Budyonny is that jack of all trades, it isn't better at anything, but good at everything. That doesn't mean it's OP or imbalaced.
Oh, and I don't ignore the numbers. Belfast is a lot harder to use correctly than the Budyonny, and still shits on all the other tier 7 cruisers, except for the Flint, of course.
Budy has a terrible rudder shift if I remember correctly compared to other cruisers and a rather shitty gun firing angle so she's not without her weaknesses. however I do agree that in solo randoms at least she is the strongest of all (non premium) T6 cruisers because her weaknesses is not as important.
This ship is really really really really terrible, probably worst ship in the game. Battleship acceleration, ruddershift, turning radius, concealment, and turret traverse. Most useless torps in game. Armor and HP of a tier 5 cl. Ap is useless. This is the only ship I'm considering free xping past. And I like Emerald and Nurnberg.
Too bad that cyrillic alphabet is like chineese for foreigners and you can't enjoy with real name with 4 letters.

Thank God IFHE is getting nerfed. Gain a shit load of DPM and lose a measly 1% fire chance if you slot DE. WGing must make it mandatory or something to drink copious amount of Vodka when making game balance choices.
