My 330ci e46 turbo has 430bhp bone stock engine probably cost 5k to do but it’s reliable and a beast don’t need any more than that

Before you think about doing all of that, you’ll have to replace the cooling system, the ccv hoses, all of the suspension parts, and fix all of the rust
not to mention you probably picked up a shitbox and the interior will also need repair and the cluster will probably be busted so big oof ong they don’t even research they just say what other youtubers say
Rust isn’t too bad on them. you can’t use ccv in a turbo application, you need to go catch can and he failed to realize it’s a m54 which cannot handle that much boost since the head will lift. Also not all e46 base models came with m54.

Also not all m54s have forged rods and crank, the b30 from the 330 is the only one that does.( obviously s54 as well) this is coming from a guy who owned the b25 and swapped to a b30. Cx racing kit is a good start but waste gate and bov need to be replaced with quality ones. Rk tunes is good, but I'd nab some 335i injectors and have chaos calibrations tune it. The do both remote and dyno tunes specifically to what you want as well as ofts tunes. Or pick up a vf engineering SC kit for 5k that comes with software that gets the b30 to 330ish whp with a 6lbs pully. Can increase power with different pulleys. Buddy has a SC 323i he drifts pushing 6lbs and making about 400

Do not try to cheap out on suspension, tires, brakes, etc, they could be what lets you see your family at the end of the day

@@paulbrown3302 300 hp for m54b30 with soft boost is no problem age dosent matter quality does
1) if the e46 has a getrag (320, 323, 325i) it will explode
2) 330i comes with bigger axles (and trailing arms that accommodate those larger axles), smaller ones will probably explode
3) m54s are NOT in all e46s, only 320i, 325i and 330i models.
4) you will need to timesert the block if you take the head off of an m54. it’s involved and important to reserve funds for
5) you need to replace bushings and install a diff brace or your diff will explode
6) you will need plenty of other random things and something that you weren’t expecting to happen will definitely happen
323i came with GM hydromatic 5l40e

Exactly, those do tend to shoot a rod every once in a while, especially with old oil and more power. This guy's full of crap. We've had one in the shop a while back with a spun bearing, the engine completely nuked itself. And it was stock, i don't even want to imagine the reliability of a build like this

Over here in Austria people are asking for 15k for a decent 28i e36 but you can get a decent 30i e46 for less than 10 unless it has alcantara interior and the best interior options

Other than that tho @boostedRR is pretty spot on, do as much research as you can now cuz it will save you time and money.
Lastly just make sure you find a well kept lower ks lude if you can. Polishing a turd can work, but its sure not fun. Better to get a nice base and go from there.

No, don't build an M54B30 from the 330i, instead get a 328i E46, Wich is a M52B28TU it's a 2.8 dual Vanos with iron block, instead of the 3.0 dual Vanos Alu Block (M52 holds more power reliably) get 330i cams Wich are the same as S52 cams. Then get a ebay turbo kit and buy a different Turbo to that, buy OEM M3 injectiors get it tuned on either a Ms41 or an Ms43(130$ each used both are stock bmw ECU,s that can be tuned)
For starters if you don't have time skills or tools..... Boot floor reinforcement $800 while there your going to replace brake pipes $200
Subframe bushes $400 and other bits and bobs that will come up $200
Then you go to engine rebuild...
$600 for bolts and bearings
$100 headgasket
$300 head skim and valve seals
And the rebuild alone could be anywhere from $1000 to $3000 or more depending who's the builder
Been there seen many people go over $30k on a boosted build done properly you don't want a fucked car to start with.

I seen a video like this saying you can do a big brake upgrade for cheap. It is. But locating every piece and putting it together is the hardship
NO please no one do this, your gonna blow the motor. 350whp would be doable with that setup but not 500.
You should get either a 325i or a 330i, the m54b22 in the 320i engine is just too small won't make good gains.
The CX racing kit has alot of reported quality and fitment issues. I would recomend just saving more as the cxracing kit is basicly ebay stuff (Not high quality). Its not the worst setup ever, but its will requre alot of work to get everything fitted without issues.
If you wanna make good m54 power either build your own turbo kit or buy a supercharger kit.
There are a few companys including G power and VF Enginering that sell good supercharger kits that make good power (around 250-300whp) and are pretty easy to install. Plus EVERYTHING that you'll need comes with it and you can bolt it onto a competely stock engine and get very nice results and solid reliablility. These cost around $4000-4500 USD
Edit: AA also makes an e46 level 2 setup that can run 400whp with some extra mods. This costs $8500 and is currently the best kit on the market
Edit number 2: ESS tuning makes Twin Screw Supercharger Stage 1&2 kits. These kits produce considerablly better touqe and power in the lower rev range than any other kits on the market. I do not know if these kits are still in production, but some online retailers still have stock as of me writing this 11/2022

@@repingers9777 Huh, I didn't realize they did Honda kits till now, but I checked on their site and you are correct. I wonder if they are new? I swear I checked a year or two a go and they didn't sell any but I could be wrong. Makes a lot more sense, Hondas are wayyy cheaper to fix and easier to work on which would make CX Racing perfect for those platforms.
Which numbers looked low to you? If you are referring to the engine power limits, I normally try to round down a bit when it comes to engine limits as I don't wanna give anyone dangerous advice.

I got 600 hp out of my 2003 E46. I just popped in a built LS3 and a TR-6060. Easy as pie…
yeah so unless you have a well equipped shop and and the skill to do this work, plus dont value your labour, gloss over tyres, suspension, bushings, braking, cooling, service items...not to mention consumables, like all new fluids, filters, plugs, coils,ccv... and you actually find a car that cheap. sure your 600hp death trap might make a pull or two before it all goes to shit or the suspension and such you neglected to change sends you to you death in a ditch lol
The e46 literally came with 15 different engine variation’s don’t even get me started on the e36
$100 for subframe reinforcement kit
$3000 for the job.
I mean if you’re a mechanic AND know how to weld you’ll be fine but if not well… this is just one of the many things he listed 😂

There’s a lot more that’s has to be accounted for with older bimmers.. having said that I’ve had multiple e46s and i will say whether it’s a 4 door, coupe or vert they all feel like little German race cars I love them I’ll probably always have one as a daily being that they’re so cheap. Basically the German civic if treated correctly. Which even then, the m54 and 2 are well know for taking abuse

hmm the new manifold when that breaks, the new cooling system, the rear subframe reinforcement ,the diff conversion for the rear bigger brakes,new shocks/springs , new waste gate, new engine because failed wastegate... the list goes on
E46s came with m52tus if you get a 323 or a 328. The 325 and the 330 came with the m54
That subframe kit won’t do anything when u add power you have to install a 6 point cross brace for anything over stock power

Plus very necessary suspension and brake and wheels upgrades plus water pump thermostat plastic bits disa valve or m50 swap plus headers new valve cover gasket new oil filter housing gasket, aluminum pulleys and new tensioners and belts. Also the hundreds of randomly occurring electrical problems. I own one trust me if you just throw on these power mods it’s not gonna run long
LS swap is the most economical way to make an e46 fast. M3 included
Just swap it to an m50 intake manifold and slap a turbo on it and youll be making 380+ horsies all on the stock block. You compare that to the 225 they make out of factory and its a big difference.
