  • The Rangers enjoy an 8-3 win at home in this one, an original six matchup against the Leafs, a team that was entering a very tough time in their history.
    A rather chippy game, with lots of 2 minute stick-related minors called.
    The Swedes were the stars for the Rangers, Ulf Nilsson with 2 goals, and Anders Hedberg with 4 assists.
    Rangers broadcast, decent quality, missing most of the second period, and the last minute of the third.

    57:43 Jim and Bill engage in a brief but humorous philosophical debate on whether or not changing a skate blade necessary equates to changing the skate boot. It's a puzzling question...
    These two announcers really were great originals.

    Love it - Jim Gordon with Bill Chadwick… my yout! Going to Cosby to see what new stuff they had. Sneaking down to the red seats. Just making the train. 😂

      Modern broadcasts must have mic’s in he crowds. Way too loud for my liking.

    Love this era more than '94. After playing Sunday night hockey at Low Tor ice center in Haverstraw, we'd shoot over to a local bar to catch the Ranger games. Not many cable systems up in Orange County had MSG network yet.

    this was probably the toughest Ranger team, maybe ever, the team that instigated the brawl in the playoffs vs the Kings a couple of months later. Herb Brooks would change all that when he arrived over the summer.

      Great call, you are 100% right. The team had almost 2,000 penalty minutes. Poor goaltending hurt plus they started out poorly with Fred Shero in the first 20 games when he was canned. Craig Patrick took over and coached a tough style.
      Brooks came in and got rid of alot of muscle and created the Smurfs.

    Jim Rutherford in goal for the Leafs. Didn't even know he was a Leaf (for one year only). I remember when the Leafs peppered him for 13 goals when they shut out the Red Wings when I was a kid. I looked up the date online, it was on January 2, 1971.

      Rutherford allowed 3 goals and was replaced by Don McLeod before the end of the first period. Jacques Plante started for the Leafs but was injured near the end of the second period. Bruce Gamble played the third period. I remember the Leafs got 7 goals in the third period. I guess you know that the game is available in black and white on CZcams.

    Ah, the 80/81 Maple Leafs. Led in scoring by Wilf Paiement in his only full season with the team. 40 goals, 97 points and 145 PIM - you don't see stat lines like that anymore. And he wore #99! Man, I want that jersey.

  • @jacksmith5692
    @jacksmith5692 Před 2 lety +1

    This is the best Fotiu played as a Ranger. He was reacquired in January from Hartford and in 27 games had 5 goals and 11 points with 91 penalty minutes. Patrick gave him some icetime and it's a shame he was injured in the 81 playoffs. He would have been great during that Kings brawl. He still got involved in his suit when Kings 3rd string goalie Paul Pageau grabbed Ed Hospodar over the boards and Fotiu and JD walked over and Nick started choking and rag dolling Pageau.
