    This is so well done and helpful unlike videos where the people have all the toys except a planer lol THANKS

    Good solution for minimal budget and minimal stock to run

      I agree. If a person does get serious about woodworking they should have a jointer and a planer. No need to handicap yourself with "inferior" tools.

    Handling that wood very well.

    Thanks for the hack! I would've thought to do both sides. Good news that one side makes the flat surface for proper cutting.

    Great for the budget conscientious wood worker. I have to be honest, that's just too much work for me, so I bought a planer. It takes a couple of minutes to completely flatten a board, and I just do the jointing on my table saw :)

      A planer is great, but unless you got an industrial one, you can't use for large pieces, such as table tops.

    I made a sled to flatten my 25”x74” workbench. I screwed straight rails to the sides, made them parallel using an angle meter (crossed electrical wire can be used too).

    This video was made for me. I'm going to use this knowledge to make a chessboard without my snooty Carpenter brother-in-law!

    This is spectacular - but how did you get the sled walls to be straight?

    Looks good. Slow going, but gets the job done if you are patient.

    • @graemenawn
      @graemenawn Před 3 lety

      Yeah was thinking how slow this process is. I think the time spent doing this vs the time saved and cost of planer is firmly in the favour of just buying a planer

      @indalcecio Před 2 lety +1

      @@graemenawn in some ways this is actually better than a planer. Planers aren't actually good for making rough lumber flat. You have to have at least one edge flat to start with. You're better off with a jointer in that case.

    New router bit might require a new router (?) It's the perfect excuse for a new tool!

      Sure most of their power tools are based off of older dewalt designs so they will work fine

    Very doable with a cheap plow plane and a Stanley 4 1/2.

    How much do you increase the depth with each pass?
    And after finishing the first side, you said you use a circular saw and table saw, but isn't that only taking care of the two thinner edges? What do you do for the opposite wide side if not flip it over and use the sled again?

  • @GeorgeNadaYT
    @GeorgeNadaYT Před 11 měsíci

    I think adjusting the router bit to begin at the lowest point on the board would be the best place to start.

    • @enduringpromise
      @enduringpromise Před 10 měsíci +1

      You will be taxing the router when it gets to the higher part of the board. Shallow cuts for these small routers with 1/4 shanks.

    Why not go end to end versus side to side once the obvious high spot is removed?

    What about using a electric planer?

  • @ozarkarky
    @ozarkarky Před 3 lety

    Why not find the lowest spot first instead of last? Then it would take only one or two passes instead of multiple ones.

    • @ToolTeardowns
      @ToolTeardowns  Před 3 lety +3

      You can't cut that much with one pass. The bit and router can't really do that.

    Doesn't explain. What is that thing? Is that a sander? Forget about sled. What is minimal way to get smoother surface. Will a big sanding job be alright?

    You seem like a narc but this video was incredible well thought out and presented. Several videos on different peoples ideas for how to do this and yours takes the mf cake
