Too true. It can be done well, but I feel there's definitely an oversaturation of mascot horror. Games like The Heilwald Loophole and It Steals are really cool games, and yet Garten of Banban, which is not great, overshadows them by a longshot, probably just because Banban has that "so bad it's good" quality so maybe it's better for content, idk. I just wish the ocean of mediocre mascot horror games didn't overshadow the actually creative and well-done games. And it's not like I hate mascot horror or anything, I thin FNAF did it well, Bendy and the Ink Machine was really cool; there are good mascot horror games. But as more and more games like Poppy Playtime and Garten of Banban come out, it seems like the quality of mascot horror only keeps going down.
I am really glad we got My Friendly Neighborhood recently. MFN took the Mascot Horror formular but with completely different gameplay and a wonderful story. It was a game with heart. Joyville does almost everything like Poppy or Banban. It even releases in chapters like them, so I feel this will be another cashgrab.
That's because My Friendly Neighbor isn't mascot horror. It takes the gameplay mechanics of a survival horror game and use it to make a parody of mascot horror. These generic mascot horror games try to make something that is kind of scary but not too scary for little kids, well having extremely rudimentary puzzle based gameplay. Compare that to My Friendly Neighbor which has resource management as its focus along with more esoteric puzzles akin to it's main inspiration, Resident Evil.
@@alexanderchippel Yeah I know and I really welcome that. I wish more horror games would use classic gameplay and tell stories with important messages like MFN.

I love how the designs are "creepy" right off the bat lmao. I mean, come on, if the creatures are supposed to be kindergarten mascots, the least you could do is have a nice cuddly version so when they do pop up, it is scarier because something happened to make them all twisted. The worm at the flower puzzle was at least unsettling in how it turned its head towards you slowly and then opened its mouth to reveal sharp teeth that weren't there before.
When i was little, my school had a D.A.R.E mascot named "Nick-o-tine" who was created to teach kids a valuable lesson about the dangers of durgs. I remember him being a horrific creature with a large body made of tabacco and feces with burning red eyes; a Mohawk made of smoke, and razor sharp teeth. They used to have life size wallpapers of him in the hallway and cafeteria. Scared the $#!% outta me as a child.
The people who develop these games clearly aren’t parents. In all the ones where a bunch of children disappear the monsters would have to deal with a hundred pissed off parents arming themselves to the teeth and busting down the door to find their children (not to mention the police). At least in Poppy Playtime the kids are supposed to be orphans.
The designs are also clear Poppy Playtime rip-offs, with the red lips, the sharp teeth and the beady black and white toy eyes and the fluffy appearance for the main monster. Huggy Wuggy worked because, as a toy, he just looks like that: a toy. As a giant mascot, he is intimidating even with his mouth closed because of how tall he looks and now he towers over the player. He then becomes horrifying when he opens his mouth in a crooked grin and sprints at you at full speed in the air ducts. Whatever this yellow thing is, would never be seen as a huge toy for kids. If just the eyes were out of its mouth it would already be a great improvement. Knowing how parents can get, no sane one would bring their kid to a play place with a mascot like that.

i don’t think there’s anything wrong with releasing games in chapters! it builds hype for your game, gives people time to theorize and talk about it. a lot of the time, a game released in full will be talked about for a month or two, then people’s attention shifts to something else. by releasing chapters, it reels people back in every time. it also gives devs access to money so they can make the next release even better (usually)!

not to deep it but i think jack has always enjoyed horror, it’s something he’s consistently come back to and perhaps didn’t always play as much as he’d like because of the fear of the algorithm ect but now because he’s taken breaks, he’s changed his mindset and takes care of himself, he just uploads what he likes and enjoys: a lot of which happen to be horror.
I think the best part of the game is the color puzzle. The way the worm slowly moves out of the corner of your eye when you're looking at the wheel if you get it wrong, and then bears its teeth if you get it wrong again, very nice design.
Jack ignoring the thing that crept back into the sewer drain between 33:31 and 33:37 because he was too occupied running from the monster is definitely a jack thing haha

I actually think this is one of the better mascot horrors that he's played - it seems better made than most of the others, the characters are cool and I like the atmosphere. If it had come earlier I think it would be way better received but considering how many other games like it there are now, it just doesn't stand a chance because there's nothing new.
Seán's getting jumpscared and scarred for life and I'm just sitting here mesmerised by his hair. Never thought I'd see the day where a new hairstyle would make me question my sexuality but here we are.
I treat these types of games like a slasher. Especially ones that feel like other games because they have the same formula. So to me its interesting what direction someone could take the mascot type of horror and twist however they see fit.
i really love mascot horror as long as you can tell that there's genuine love and care put into the game. If the devs care about their game and are in it for more than a cash grab, it shows. I'm curious to see where joyville goes. It had some good moments, but there's so much to improve on and I hope they do that in the coming chapters (like the toy balls falling down the stairs? ZAMN)
“Why do we run this place on teddy bear power?!” Not gonna lie. That was not something I thought I would ever hear any man say without a hint of irony.
I thought the worm rainbow puzzle was awesome, freaked me out, I loved it. Everything else made me think of PPT- especially the hallways and ball pit area. I feel like games like this are being pushed out because it's what's popular right now but I do miss the other horror style of games a lot.
Gotta say out of the abundance of chapter based mascot horror games, this one was the most interesting to me. The atmosphere and effort they put in was pretty well done and I hope they keep putting in more effort with each chapter because this one seems like it actually has potential I’d like to see it succeed.
Honestly, so many types of these scary children place games have come out but I have to say that this one was pretty solid! The puzzles and story were good, and it was very creative to have a teddy bear be the key to every door. I really liked it!

I agree that this just felt like Poppy Playtime over again. To me, it takes a lot of the "fun" out of the concept when the creatures are designed to be intentionally disturbing or weird (like putting the eyes in the mouth or having all the creatures have sharp teeth). To me, part of the charm of the games in the mascot horror genre like My Friendly Neighborhood is that those designs are actually consistent with what might actually made for kids, which are then rendered unnerving due to context or certain subtleties of the design. THAT is much harder to do but much more enjoyable to watch.
so i have an intense fear of mascots and most of these games dont really bother me, but something about this one is just setting off every anxiety in my body
this is the most effective horror game of this genre for me. Poppy and Five Nights never really made me feel afraid or uneasy (and I'm a hugeass scaredy cat) but this one was really really good at unease and discomfort.

I enjoyed it at first too. Then we get so many similar games and it just loses its charm. Pair that with the million "chapters" and the cringy youtube kids videos. The genre can be saved, I just don't think it'll be anytime soon.
@@jeviljuice1633 I agree
I'm with you. I'm not sick of it just yet. But I'm sure I will be one day. 😆
I love this man "Okay this I can handle, trauma I can handle, doing things over and over again? No thanks.." never felt words so much before XD
Jack playing horror games is too hilarious to find it scary.Finding humor in the creepiest atmospheres is a gift.Sean is a big influence on my channel and i never knew how much people would enjoy watching my playthroughs, and i have Sean to thank because he gave me the courage to give it a chance.
That jumpscare got me very very very good when sean is trying to do the rainbow puzzle.
It was my favourite part of the game!

Also Jack: Goes into tube immediately after
I would totally have put a "game over" there as a joke.
I want him to make a short of that ramp so I can use the sound 😂 it can be used for so many things
Also jack: made fun of how so many people use this old and unoriginal template in his comments section
@@bluebirdoz9055 Thanks for your consideration. It is greatly appreciated.
I actually think this is one of the better mascot horrors that he's played - it seems better made than most of the others, the characters are cool and I like the atmosphere. If it had come earlier I think it would be way better received but considering how many other games like it there are now, it just doesn't stand a chance because there's nothing new.

Jacks voice cracks was hilarious to me when he said: “Ah ThEy’Re eVeRy WhErE!”
I find it funny how jack will go from playing amazing horror games to “marketable kids horror games” then back to amazing horror games😂
True but my friendly neighborhood was fantastic
The sheer whiplash you get from this to Carson House or Chilla's Art.
Weird, it's almost as if there a multiple genres of horror or something. Nah, that can't be it.

I treat these types of games like a slasher. Especially ones that feel like other games because they have the same formula. So to me its interesting what direction someone could take the mascot type of horror and twist however they see fit.
i truly dont want sean's horror game era to leave 😂
i really love mascot horror as long as you can tell that there's genuine love and care put into the game. If the devs care about their game and are in it for more than a cash grab, it shows. I'm curious to see where joyville goes. It had some good moments, but there's so much to improve on and I hope they do that in the coming chapters (like the toy balls falling down the stairs? ZAMN)
jack has helped me through so much, i love this man with all my heart
33:33 top right corner, found a peeper!
Sean and horror games. No better combo. This really felt like a spin off to poppy playtime. The genuine feel of it.
“Why do we run this place on teddy bear power?!”
Not gonna lie. That was not something I thought I would ever hear any man say without a hint of irony.
Wow, alternative energy comes from some weird sources.
You know it’s serious game when Sean has his hair pulled back
I thought the worm rainbow puzzle was awesome, freaked me out, I loved it. Everything else made me think of PPT- especially the hallways and ball pit area. I feel like games like this are being pushed out because it's what's popular right now but I do miss the other horror style of games a lot.
Same, the worms were my favourite as well! It felt very similar to other games but it had its moments lol
Other styles?
Gotta say out of the abundance of chapter based mascot horror games, this one was the most interesting to me. The atmosphere and effort they put in was pretty well done and I hope they keep putting in more effort with each chapter because this one seems like it actually has potential I’d like to see it succeed.
I LOOOOVE love the mascot designs in this one!!
feels like it could be the same universe as yo gabba gabba, the designs are very similar!

I feel like regardless of this being like the other games that have come out recently, it's still entertaining and fun to watch non the less cause they still have different level designs, character designs and stories. Although very similar I think it's still enough to be able to enjoy watching. Plus, it's you Sean. You're the one making it watchable so atleast for me, I'll still come back and watch you play games like this.
This is the first game in awhile that actually got my heart pumping, so good!!

I would love to see the rest of this. This was awesome!
0:08 the cut offed “WHAT THE FU-“ got me😂😂
I agree that this just felt like Poppy Playtime over again.
Always a good day when jackseticeye posts a horror game video ❤

Wow this game was so good, the falling of the balls in the stairs was perfect, and the overall grafics are amazing !!
this is the most effective horror game of this genre for me. Poppy and Five Nights never really made me feel afraid or uneasy (and I'm a hugeass scaredy cat) but this one was really really good at unease and discomfort.
