    So originally I was just always putting Kardia on the tank, but I've found the chip healing of Kardia to not really be enough, so I've begun to start using Kardia as a 'top off' mechanic much the same way that an Astrologian throws around card buffs. Normally I'll have Kardia up on the tank, but say a DPS takes some dmg, instead of stopping my attacks to throw a big heal on them, I'll transfer Kardis to them and continue attacking. After a few attacks, they've been 'topped off' and I'll then transfer the Kardia back to the tank. This also allows me to reserve my Addersgall stacks for bigger heals on the tanks.

      yeah I haven't done a lot of sage but when playing I was really underwhelmed with how kardia keeps up with the sort of damage MTs take and I think being a bit more active with it, passing it around others to top them up is a better use.

      I usually use the barriers as a top off mechanic. It keeps them alive until I end up using one of the dozens of AOE heals available. But I'll definitely try this out. The problem I see is that the spammable addersgall heal is also pretty weak, so it could be too much trouble moving Kardia around for little payback

      it feels like sage has ONLY aoe heals. tons and tons and tons of aoe heals, that all dont run on the gcds. but all of them are kinda mediocre and you need to use 3-4 to top up the group, what makes you use all of your blue stacks. the entire do dmg to heal mechanic is trash imo, since the single target heals are so bad, you constantly need to either spam your one single target heal, or your aoe heals and you dont have time to really do any dmg inbetween.

  • @ulibarriL
    @ulibarriL Před 2 lety +18

    Pepsis is a recovery tool, and used reactively. You use it to bring peeps back up quickly. Also very useful for 'heal to full' Doom mechanics including DRK's Walking Dead. It's reverse Emergency Tactics, and you want to throw up your shields first, and then use Pepsis. So GCD>>oGCD instead of oGCD>>GCD

    • @Crystan
      @Crystan Před 2 lety +1

      People call it a reverse emergency tactics, but it's nothing of the sort. It's a flat heal. Emergency tactics literally turns the shield itself into the heal, which means that it also gains the crit bonus (which can also be forced), making it an insanely potent heal in a pinch. It's also AoE, which means it robs all players of their barrier when you might only want to use it to top up the tank. If you're using it to top up a player before a big AoE, for example, you might want to keep shields on your other team mates, but just remove the one on the tank and replace it. Easily done on Scholar, but much harder on Sage.
      Compare that to Scholar's Succor followed by Emergency Tactics + Succor. Try doing something similar on sage. You literally cannot.

    This is one of the best (if not the best) sage guides I've encountered. I love that this job is so technical. Thanks to your guide, I realized that Krasis increases healing received and not healing done. Thank you so much for making this!
    I'd add that if overhealing can be avoided, Pepsis is almost always worth casting on Eukrasian Prognoses. And Pepsis doesn't care about how much the shield remains when it is used, so Pepsis is really nice when shields are partially eaten by damage, though this situation is quite rare, but does happen.
    I personally switch my Kardia around fairly frequently, especially in boss fights. It has just a 5-second recast.
    I would also point out that if the sage is confident that the tank will survive over the next few global recasts and at least two mobs can be hit, then two Dyskrasias are better damage, require less global-recast commitment (Eukrasia isn't affect by spell speed), and cost less MP than a Eukrasian Diagnosis plus Toxikon (though the value of healing someone shouldn't be completely overlooked). I feel it's like SCH's Adloquium in that Eukrasian Diagnosis is one of the least efficient ways to heal a target, and an ability should generally be preferred. For those just starting with a barrier healer, erring on the side of casting too many Eukrasian Diagnoses is likely the way to go, the cast few of them as they get more experience.
    However, if the sage expects that the next pull will have about twice as many mobs as the current pull, stacking up on Addersting is quite can be a damage increase, though not by much. Also, I've found that Toxikon is often easier to cast as the party moves. And because Toxikon II does just as much damage as Dosis III on single targets, having an Addersting available allows the sage to avoid losing damage from movement.
    Regardless, there are lots of ways to get the job done.

      To be honest, it’s just a smart and respectful thing to do when you know a vital player in party is new to a new job or role in taking it normal or slower. I say that as a PLD Tank myself. There is just no need to rush when others in group are just not as experienced in their role. In group dynamics, players need time to figure things out and even when it goes wrong as much as when it goes right. I remember when I had my sprout 🌱 status, still learning to dungeon and green at FF14. But I’m glad that the party groups gave me space to take things slower learning. It never ends, learning. But with any new job/class just smart and good to give room for players to make mistakes while learning to better play their new jobs.

      That being said, initially I had to cycle through my big cooldowns the entire time and sometimes things got dicey. A day of getting used to it now, and I don't use my big cds to heal anymore. If you use the low cd mitigation and keep your shields refreshed instantly after they break, it makes it look like the dungeon doesn't do any damage.

It is about as important to Sages as Regen is to a White Mage or the faerie is to a Scholar.

    Sage is pretty cool, and just a better SCH IMO. I never really liked SCH but having a fun time with Sage so far. One thing that sucks is that Sage is pretty different from other Healers, and playing with a controller is a bit different because I can't just copy my bars from AST/WHM and have them set up the same way. I'm going to take your advice at the end and make Eukrasia my primary button instead of what is usually my DPS spam. It's funny because I've considered Sage as a DPS/Healer but my hotbar will be set-up in an opposite way from AST/WHM. That probably only makes sense to me, but it's what I've noticed.
    Also, in my brief time with Sage it seems like (like some of the other commenters have mentioned) that it's a bit tough when AoEs hit, you have to really plan ahead for those. When things go bad, there seems to be less mitigation; you're not limited by mana but Addersgall which I guess is kinda like Scholar, but perhaps it will just take time to learn.

  • @LazyVanny
    @LazyVanny Před 2 lety

    As a Gunbreaker main, I often check with my Healer on how much should I pull.
    But with Sage I often pull less, since the ones I played with so far can't keep my health up on big pulls. But good ol White Mages keep me healthy and do some good chip damage on bosses, I am learning some Dps classes currently but I might try healing since I dropped it during Stormblood.
    Also no matter what don't feel discouraged if you fail, I still occasionally get hit by a weakness stack once or twice even in dungeons I run plenty of times in roulettes. So keep at it and show off your A+ healing game.

    Sage is the first healing class that looks interesting to me. It is insanely intimidating and I am not sure if this is for healers in general or just that Sage is more difficult. I started in lower level dungeons doing squadron command missions. Then I got through the first Sage quest, which took me a while to adapt and get down.
    It is starting to feel better, but I think I need to get a group together for PotD to get it down at a more reasonable rate.

      I felt the same way and i've played astro to 80 before this class came out. This class is likely the hardest healer to learn for the simple fact that you have to mainly prevent dmg with barriers first and foremost. Really spam those barriers. Then manage your oGCDs well. There's so many options to choose so it takes practice to know what's the best option for a situation.

    Sage is great but one specific instance i consistently fail in is the big pull right before the first boss of Holminster Switch. I regularly wipe the group there. There have definitely been occasions where the tank has failed to use their invuln, but i feel like i should be able to handle it regardless of that. I start with physys and kerachole and haima, and then zoe taurochole, then go back to kerachole after that but even then i still can not keep up with that much damage. I have done a lot of searching and even though that pull is notorious for being extremely difficult i have not found any forums about it or guides on youtube talking about it. Surely i can't be the only sage that struggles with this.

    I’m a PLD Tank and even though I been playing months, I still consider myself a freshman at FF14. I had16 years of WoW as PLD tank too. I watch this not to play a Sage but to have some understanding of my healer capability. Honestly no idea what most healers do or how they keep me alive. I’ve yet to dungeon with a Sage also. However, I don’t ever check on my healer, unless for some reason I’m doing floor inspections.
    But learning what some healer spells are and AoE heals helps to know where the ER Clinic is on the field like the Blue Dome. Often the party healer is set to my Focus, sometimes Melee for focus defensive cast to target. However a Sage also trickle healing me, well that should have no issue quickly triggering my Devine Veil when I cast it to set up a party shield for AoE damage. Sometimes I see boss casting something seemingly AoE and I cast Devine Veil before boss cast is off and trigger it myself just to make sure. That can be a bad habit to seemingly waste a utility for party protection while maybe needing to cast a self defensive.
    Still, knowing how my healers function is in my best interest as a Tank in being more effective as well synergy.

And the Eukrasian Diagnosis is Stone Skin all over again. SE got rid of Stone Skin and this needs to go too. Sage needs a 700 potency GCD heal period.

    • Soteria then Eukrasian Diagnosis.
    After casting that you should have an Addersgall (should be getting an Addersgall every 20s) or:

    Slight bit of clarification on what you said about the shielding spells. AoE gives a 320% shield based off a 100 potency heal while the ST gives a 180% shield based off a 300 potency heal. Say you do one-to-one heal to potency. AoE heals for 100 points and gives a 320 point shield to everyone. ST heals for 300 and gives a 540 point shield to one. Not to say the AoE isn't efficient, but like all spells, the ST versions are individually better.
    Also you get an Addersting when the shield /breaks/ by damage, not if it just times out. A minor point that you covered in the dungeon footage but not in the review.
    I am enjoying Sage a lot, very similar to Scholar which I've generally mained until now. A bit less involved on the mobs then SCH was with more healing options for the party. Though I have noted a much greater tendency to get agro off tanks even through their stance.

    The healing from Kardion isn't really big enough to be able to say "You'd rather be doing damage and relying on Kardion."
    That won't fly in normal fights and doesn't really even keep up with auto attacks from enemy mobs. You're right that you should try to use oGCD heals as much as possible, though. Keep Eukrasian Diagnosis up as MUCH as possible, because when that shield is fully absorbed you gain Addersting.

      If you press A(or × for PS players) before casting any spell, the soft-target will become your hard target.

    The main problem with healers is when a tank pulls a lot of the time they won't use any of their cds. In turn they blame it on the healer when they can do nothing but try to keep them alive. I used to hate healing until I played sage. Out of all the dungeons and trials I have had only 2 complaints and those were the ones that doesn't use cds. I main all tanks and I'm constantly using cds on w2w pulls. Healer is just a class where you have to be ready for negative feedback even if you are playing the job well.
