Default button for sheathing/unsheathing weapon is Z
I changed it to shift-z so I wouldn't accidentally fat finger it. I wish they made keyboards for the larger handed individual.
It's L3 on the controller if anybody doesn't know
It’s worth using Z X C and Q and E for hot keys instead of the defaults. unsheathing can be shift-z or something else

Not only is "Z" the default sheathe key, it's also used when flying to go straight down. If you don't move in any other direction it will take you all the way to the ground, and hitting it again will dismount you.
I literally just found out a month ago that you can specifically "sit on ground" instead of automatically binding to chairs and benches when sitting.
Now use "doze" when you are sitting on the ground.
My lala just stumbles when dozing standing, but while sitting on the ground - she desperately tries to hold on balance, but falls over.
You can also tell which gear item that you're currently wearing is at 100% spiritbond if you have your inventory grid displayed. The dots on the left of it represent each gear piece. White dots = 100% spiritbond, Green dots < 100%.
Also red means they need to be repaired.
Easiest method.
Also for controller users, changing the size of the window is R3 while in the window. It increases the size one zoom at a time. I believe you can also increase the dialogue boxes during cut scenes with R3 on controller.
Adding to this I believe the default weapon draw/sheathe is L3

@@MVimah and adding to that another way is L1 then R1 (bumpers)(also for dismounting mounts). I use macros on the thumbsticks so sheathe doesn't work the same for me. Dismount I work into my macro for the L3.
It's so fun being able to modify your playstyle.
Adding to this: Right Bumper forward + R1 = auto-run
and u can set the L-R 3 to the macros 98 -99 ( i use it to sprint+peloton ) spare you a slot on the hotbar
also holding circle ( or equivalent on Xbox ) and then moving around will make you walk instead of run. (no toggle option that i know about unfortunately)
edit: L1+X will flag the cursor position on the map to the chat ( to link that S-Rank u just found) to undo, just press L1+X on top of the flag on the map.
A tip I recently learned is to hold X if you are trying to click on an NPC or node or anything of that sort and there are a lot of people around. X prevents you from clicking on players and minions. It could be extremely frustrating some times trying to target something when other people are crowding a space.
This tip is gold, I have been running into this a lot lately!
Love videos with tips like these, since it's fairly easy to learn something new. \o/ In return here's some tips I've gathered over time. ☺
- You can use /doze while standing on a bed to rest/sleep on it. While sleeping you can change poses.
- You can hold Ctrl while mouse is on map to reveal aetherite icons and make them easy to click (they will show on top of quest and other icons).
- You can use Ctrl + cursor keys Up/Down to aim the camera vertically, very useful to get camera at the best position during fights, or for taking character screenshots.
- If you get lost easily like me and use the big map a lot, you can click on the lock button on it so it stays up when you press Escape. I (almost) always have it visible on a corner of the screen.
- There's 4K texture mode for UI that makes all skill/gear/item/etc icons much sharper and nice, especially if you have any hotbars size set to more that 100%. This is found in System Config > Graphic Settings > UI Resolution.
- Having a hotbar on top of your screen with your important cooldowns can be useful to learn a job.
- Similar to how battle effects can be lowered, summoner pet sizes can be adjusted, making them small helps clear clutter and camera obstructions a lot! Type "/? petsize" in chat to get instructions on how to do this. ^^
- The Ready Check action can be used at any time and is very useful outside of duties when playing with friends... you can ready check before starting/queueing for duties, during treasure hunting...
- You can use sound effects in chat messages/macros, ex: "LB!!!!!!!! " to get your someone's attention, use responsibly. :)
- In HUD layout, you can split your buf/debufs and move then where you want individually. Same for target bufs/debufs. You can move your own debufs to a prominent area of the screen and make them 200% so you don't miss DOOM and similar nasty stuff.
- Cast bars can also be split from the target info element in HUD layout. Moving the target's cast bar to a clear spot on the screen and making it BIG will make it easier to learn enemy attacks by name, giving you a better reference in fights of what the boss is doing. If the cast bar is red, you can interrupt that attack with "Interject" or equivalent skill.
Set return to Gold Saucer: You get 120-150 gil access to all starter cities and Ishgard ;)
But it takes longer to get to your grand company
I made a noise when I learned about resizing the outfit preview window.
Idleshire for Khole turn ins, Gold Saucer (allows you to go to the four city states for 200 G) Current Hub City, Secondary hub city.
Or, can set your free portal to Limsa, it has a boat that takes you directly to the waking sands, Old Shar, and Kugane.
The airship is very underutilized by many players from what I've noticed.
The keybind is "Z" for sheathing / unsheathing weapon by default.

I've been using a macro this whole time to sort items in my armory chest by spiritbond percentage, and you're telling me that there was already a button for this???
Heck, I loaded up on discounted teleport locations even though 90% of my teleports are free with Aetheryte Ticket from the hunt billmaster at my Grand Company or from that Centurio Hunts guy in Ishgard. Seriously, go do hunts and buy those tickets, you'll save so much money.
You can also buy Grand Company tickets with seals to tele you right in front of the GC.
I've known about window scaling and have never considered using it for the Fitting Room. I feel very stupid right now, but in a good way LOL
On PS, if you hold L1 and hit touchpad, it hides your entire HUD. Hitting L1 and R3 gives you a mouse you can move with the Right Analog, and makes R1 and R2 your left/right click buttons. The mouse can be useful to identify what buffs and debuffs do, as hovering over them with the pointer will give a mouse-over detail. (I imagine PC players know this, but PS players may not)
Hold L1 and push up/down on the direction buttons to go through your monster list in battle. ;)
As a console player tapping the left thumb stick (L3) is how we sheathe our weapons, and believe me it’s been a god send ever sense.
One-time security token is a must for anyone, who decides to seriously play FFXIV!

A trick for players who don't necessarily like weaving, weaving skills isn't a keyboard mash scenario, there's one small thing you can do that will save you plenty of time.
Any skill that is an "Ability" can be weaved, while spells can't, so if you want to weave and ability right after your Spell, all you need to do is press the button while the cast bar is happening, once the cast is over, the ability will come out right after!
It's really a game change in any field of gameplay and it can make a big difference once you practice. 😄
If you hold both left and right mouse button, you move forward. Mostly useless, but can be helpful when you for whatever reason don't want to use your keyboard for that.
Middle mouse click (pressing the mouse wheel) does that too
For mouse users: One thing I didn't know until recently is that you can change which way your character faces by holding right-click on your mouse and moving.

You heard the queen. Extract your materias
The problem with joining a party in progress is that half the time 2/3rds of the party was ready to abandon to begin with. So when you get there you'll be waiting just as long to find another healer, tank or both. Not to mention there's a good chance that the person who caused everyone to ragequit is the only one sticking around.
I usually get the opposite. The guy that caused the problems is usually the guy that either left, his connection died or was voted out.
Plus is great when they are already in the last boss.
Orbonne Monastery, 3 weeks after its release. Semi-messy run in reality - Wipe twice, defeat boss on 3rd go. Jackweasel wants to Vote/Abandon. Some do. I stick around. I am a Bard. I stay. I want a hat. People fill party, while waiting on new recruits I run down boss mechanics in alliance chat. Rinse and repeat at EVERY DANG BOSS. It is the first and only time I have seen the timer reach 20 minutes by the time we hit the final boss. Hat did not drop. I walked away with 5 comms though.
That was also my 7th run that day.
I never had that problem. Whenever I join a party thats already in progress its usually someones connection that died or something similar. Or the person causing the problem quitting themselves.
@markup6394 For me it's always old content, and usually a weird situation like somebody that insisted on using duty finder to drag a pug on a no armor blind run of something like Wanderers Palace or Pharos Sirius, and refused any tips or advice.

It's funny how you mentioned about the dismount button. I managed to do that randomly one time and thought it's just a basic thing XD didn't know others don't do the same.

Sadly the companion app doesn't work outside NA, EU , JP and OCE countries there is a work around if installing it on Android from 3rd party websites and 3rd app stores. Like me who plays on Balmung Crystal living in Philippines yeahhh have to use work arounds a lot.
Tank main here I never saw any issue with long queue times xD, I joke but in my experience pvp is roulette and sometimes alliance raid roulette are the only long queue times can even go up to 4+ hours, tried to queue before lol

For your last tip, I NEVER check the French language for the Duty Finder because that'd mean I'm going to fail the duty asap. 😎

you can rescale 99% of windows (including dialogue boxes), there's very few UI elements you cannot move (such as pop up dialogue when in MSQ).

I’ll also make an area my home point just so I can get a free teleport (with a 30 minute CD) with /return. For me, it’s usually Radz at Han, because that’s where the current tomestone and raid drop traders are.
OH FOR THE SECURITY TOKEN FREE TELEPORT. I USE THE GOLD SAUCER CAUSE IT TAKES YA TO THE ONE SPOT TO JUST GOES TO THE MAIN TOWNS FOR RELATIVELY CHEAP AT 150GIL

Funny thing... I didn't know you could dismount with a different button other than sheath.
Well, on PS you can Hold L1 then press R1 to dismount, conversely you can also have the mount roulette on a hotbar and press that to dismount.

Thankfully i already knew almost everything. 10 years is a long time to learn, but the materia extract one definitely eluded me somehow.

@7.43 I seem to remember - perhaps wrongly, that Yoshi-P didn't like that players could exclude other languages and changed it so that you queue with all languages always and these check boxes are a relic of the past

I knew about Materia Extraction, had it on all my crafter hotbars ...still never used it because I honestly forget materia is a thing, lol.
Do you have or can suggest a video I can show people, who need a little push to start the game? My cousin and a friend kinda want to start the game but are afraid about the game having so much content. I am terrible at hyping people up for games, so nobody ever plays what I suggest :‘)

I get it because I was worried I'd be overwhelmed at first too! I'm a newish player and the best advice I was given is to ignore all the random yellow side quests for now, and instead focus only on the MSQ, job quests and the blue side quests because they unlock new content. By doing this I've managed not to get overwhelmed by the amount of content I'm catching up on. I'm now on the Heavensward patch quests. :)

Privacy, probably, especially if you are doing roulettes. People might not want their names/servers to be shown publicly, especially if they don’t know they are queueing with a streamer at the outset. I have been in roulette queues where someone has said “hi I am streaming!” at the beginning of a run which is nice - but not all streamers do 🤷🏻
I'm not sure about that advice to select multiple languages. I mean obviously the first problem with that is probably don't say you can speak languages you can't speak? That's like, sure you could get matched quicker, but if someone in that duty needs help you're setting yourself up for an extra half hour of broken communication they specifically didn't sign up for?
But even aside from that, anecdotally it seems like the matchmaking system hyper-fixates on certain languages and gives you longer queues. Like if it gets two "Japanese" speakers on an EU datacentre it's going to try its best to stick them in the same party because, "woah, why are Japanese speakers in the land of roast beef, baguettes and waffles?"
On the whole, it feels like people would have a better queuing experience if they a) made a PF, b) travelled to another datacentre or c) did some fates/triple triad NPCs/read a book during the wait.

7:45 that option is just a scam for me ..xD i tried it multiple times ... at different day time .. with just my language (german) and every language ... the waiting time was always longer with all language ... at the same time just german gave me non germans in around 90% of the cases anyway ... so the longer waiting when i tried all language was most likely just bad luck because nearly everybody use all language you just get matched with nearly everybody even if you just use one language because everyone else is using all languages ...xD
not like the language would matter most normal runs are just a greeting at the start from most people and a bye or gg at the end xD

Come on Avy, you've been playing a bit less time than me. But that window resize thing is one of the first thing people learn surely?
Like someone else posts in comments, if using controller it's R3 over the window to increase size till it hits max and it rolls over to minimum size. (I use controller + Mouse + KB personally)
My own personal favourite thing to resize on the 16 (yes.. SIXTEEN!) different characters I play, is the spearfishing window. That thing is too small when you first spearfish.
