  • Had a day with my mate Steve. It was a warm difficult day, so fishing was slow but good. Then came the evening with those difficult sipping trout. Steve opted for his yellow Booby. It was great to watch, seeing those big bow waves. The fish really switched on to the booby.

    It's a first for me to consider using a Booby on top. Thanks for the video :)

      To be honest I don't use them much. This is more Steve. He will put anything on top, so long as it makes a wake. But it is very effective and great fun. Nice to hear from you. Thanks for the comment. Shaun.

      @@shaunfishes101 Thanks for sharing :) We use boobys right down on the bottom . I tie a ridiculously short heavy leader to a fast sinking line. Either I employ a "do nothing" retrieve if I'm using a red booby...or more often I will strip quite fast, pause for a while and the strip again erratically. This makes the booby rise up from the bottom. A deadly pattern indeed! Cheers and Tight Lines.

      @@zeph6439 We have on of the boys on the water, Ray. He fishes this method for the first two fish. As he takes two fish home for the table. Then he switches to the floating line to fish c&r. As you say this method is very successful. But for most of the fish do take the pattern down quite deep. This is why he switches to floater following his two fish.

      @@shaunfishes101 Well I'm certainly going to give it a good go the next time I'm out. I mainly use a red eyed damsel nymph, egg patterns or small clousers when fishing for trout - they tend to produce in most of the waters over here in South Africa.

      @@zeph6439 OMG Somebody watching the channel in South Africa. This You tube stuff blows me away at times. The boys tell me I am a dinosaur. I am not to good with modern technology. The only reason Steve uses the booby, is that it is the most buoyant fly he has. But this is only when the fish are a bit higher and active.

      It is a great water with a lot of potential. We are supposed to be weeding this week. But weather is making it difficult. That would give you so much more water. I think it will be done in the next few weeks. The fishing could get difficult this week due to conditions. But never rule out a dry fly. Even if you don't see much moving on the top. The water quality is so good fish will see that fly from the bottom. I might even get to meet you. Just a reminder water is closed Monday to Wednesday. Good luck on your return. Shaun.

    Hi Shaun, you fish this venue a lot.
    Where is it?

    • @shaunfishes101
      @shaunfishes101  Před 8 měsíci

      Hi Mark, Yes. For a lot of reasons. 1 its our local. 2 its a top class water. 3 Its set up for the fisherman not profit. 4 its a small catchment. 5 crystal clear water spring fed. Being a small catchment means less stock fish. Less stock fish means we can really get to work on our patterns. To be honest stock fish will take a lot of patterns. We enjoy working on patterns that is more in tune with what is going on around us. And this water is perfect for doing just that, as we can see the fishes reaction. Well most of the time. Due to the quality of water. This is a water visited by many from all over the country. Hayscastle Fishery, Pembrokeshire, Wales.

    Hi Shaun what does piss me off is when a fly is devastating like the booby fished correctly some people want to ban it, or demise the use of it, WHY its still fly fishing that represents something that the fish feed on , rant over lol. good video mate.

    • @shaunfishes101
      @shaunfishes101  Před rokem +1

      Not sure about feed on. But on the day its a great attractor. I think that the problem is that the fish occasionally take the fly down, and then a few people try to remove it and release the fish. So a lot of Fisheries will ban it. On Hayscastle we ask anybody using this method or any method that a fish takes a fly down to dispatch the fish. In all fairness we have never had a problem. I myself had to dispatch a fish last year. We was fishing a floating Damsel and for some reason the fish would take the fly down. Its a personal choice. But myself and the boys have decided not to fish the pattern any longer, as we fish catch and release all the time. One of the boys fished the booby today actually had two fish and no problems. But I do understand the fishery managers concerns. It really is down to the individual to do wright by the fish and look after our waters.

    • @shaunfishes101
      @shaunfishes101  Před 3 lety +2

      Honestly Martin I am fine with this line. I have been using it for the last two months on and off. It takes a very good caster or a great rod to get all the line out. But I am very happy with the way it fishes. Being a budget line not sure if there will be a good batch, then a not so good batch. Having fished with all the lines I have. This line would be best bye for price. Good luck Martin. Keep in touch mate. Shaun.
