  • For many years we have been fishing with lures. But for most will have a fault. We have been busy working on this. And now have a much improved engine which gets more fish to the net.

    Definitely a pattern that does the job. Tied some up and my good lady wife reported to me she achieved her PB at our syndicate water. After a good start on another fly she quickly swapped over to this pattern and was constantly kept busy. 14 fish to the net and has ordered me to to tie another batch. So I can only say a big thankyou for putting this pattern up for everyone to try. Cheers , Kind regards Alan

      Sorry Alan I really thought I had replied to your comment. Not sure if I am more pleased to hear about the pattern, or that your good wife has taken up Fly Fishing, and doing so well. This pattern has done us so well over the last twelve months. I fished it consistently for the first six months and it never failed. But over twelve months if failed three times. But those fails it was only fished for about an hour. I watch it in the water, and see it swims upright every time. Its a shame that I can not find anybody to get the pattern out to the public. For me to do myself is so much work, and I would not keep up with demand. I was only using it the other day when it started pulling fish. And this was on a difficult day when fish for every body was slow. Great to hear from you Alan. All the best to your wife. Take care mate. Thanks. Shaun.

      However you dress it up Allan. But most important is the lead. Was on the water today at Hayscastle. We are very lucky here as there is some deep water up to 18' and we are on the west coast of wales facing the Irish sea/ Atlantic. So this water does not suffer as most waters at this time of year with the heat. Fished a mix of patterns for the first hour or so. But then put the Hays Black and Blue on. There was a few lures being fished. But nothing matched the Hays B/B. Can't remember how many fish, but around 8 and did loose two. Which is not meant to happen. Conditions difficult. Yes I would definitely recommend this pattern. Intermediate line by far the best. Mess about with the retrieves. Good look mate and thanks for the comment. Oh let me know how you get on. Shaun.

      Hi James just remember the most important thing here is the lead. Its a small detail that makes a massive difference. Plus being lighter makes it a treat to cast. Another benefit of being lighter, is that the pattern stays in the zone for longer. For the last 5 months we have fished this pattern. Not constant. But up until last week it was catching fish every time. I fished it for about half an hour and it had its first fail. But this is one of the most consistent patterns we have fished. Like most patterns its working out how to fish it on the day. And like all good fishing people, will understand every trip will be different. But it was intended to be fished on an intermediate. This enables us to fish with a bit of pace at lower levels. I would love to hear how you get on with this pattern in your waters. Take care James and thanks. Shaun.

      @shaunfishes101 of definitely for sure. Adding the weight for using non weighted lines. I play around a lot with weighted and non weighted flies. I like to see the difference and how fast or slow you can work it. I'm not taking away from any work you put into it at all. I was just saying how I like to throw a small streamer like that. I should play around more by throwing non weighted lines with weighted patterns. I do sometimes just always seem to have better luck with a weighted line.

    Nice demmo there Shaun, we fish bass lures that we call weedless where the hook point comes out of the top of the lure, could be an interesting concept for a fly you would have to weight the top of the hook so if fishes upside down. thoughts please Shaun

    • @shaunfishes101
      @shaunfishes101  Před 11 měsíci

      Yes I am aware of this lure. Have done a lot of bass myself. Justin and myself have talked about different hook positions. Sideways no good, as explained in the video. But up is interesting. Swings and roundabouts. I can see hooking could be just as good. If the hook was concealed in the dressing this would help with weed, and if there was an argument fish could see the hook and would put most off. Then great. One down side to all this is you would restrict movement. So consideration has to be taken when tying this pattern. I think the only benefit here for me, would be a hook you can't see. Are you going to do one. Do you think the fish are put off by the hook.

But in all fairness I have had a few hundred with this pattern since working with it, and have only lost a hand full. I have only had one of the boys blank on it. But like he said. If you are based in the UK I hope you both don't get disheartened as the fishing around the country is a bit tricky at the moment due to conditions. Get out as early as you can and pick waters with a bit of depth. The deep water which remains cooler helps maintain a lower temp. Lakes which are about 10' average depth should be avoided at this time. For most of the time we are fishing the morning period with floating lines. Single fly and 10' plus tippet. Patterns along the lines of the Diawel Bach. Or any thing around size 14 slim and sparse. We found a fast retrieve most consistent. The Glasses are cacoons. And yes very happy with them. A few of the boys got there's from America. I got mine from sport fish. Mind Sport Fish only have a choice of three. But if you go onto Cacoons site they will have a chart to work out which style is best for your glasses. Hope this helps. Oh and I am very pleased you have found our channel. • @shaunfishes101
      @shaunfishes101  Před rokem +1

      I wish I could find away of showing you all what I have studied with fish over the years. Even last week I watched a fish which I thought was following this same lure in. As it happens it was not following, but instead had my lure fully in its mouth and chomping. I could not feel a thing. The fish was moving at exactly the pace of my retrieve. As I lifted to set the hook, it just let go. Then turned away. But for the hook position in the water, yes I am convinced this is an improvement. The more you think about it and understand the more you will be convinced. I have fished this pattern at all speeds, and the result has been the same. The pattern will catch fish with a bead. But there are draw backs other than hook position. The pattern is designed for an intermediate due to it being lighter. Being lighter gives me more options on how it can be fished. I hope to cover this in a later video. Do the bead, and when you get the wire, give that a go. It will be interesting. Mind when you start trying this out, remember it takes time, as you will have to try them in many conditions to get a fair result. Can't wait to hear how you get on Brian. Take care mate. Shaun.
