Thanks for producing another great review!
I believe the NX will be another runaway seller for Lexus given the SUV craze and improving on an already popular model.
The NX is the best seller down under in Australia 🇦🇺 for Lexus and a lot of us who have scratched our German itch which in the end have left us scratching our heads at the dealer/independent come service/repair time would be happy flocking back to this luxurious vehicle.
Can’t wait! I’ve pre-ordered a 350h Sports Luxury here in Aug ‘21 and getting the car delivered end of Feb ‘22! Can’t wait to see the khaki green contrasting with the hazel/tan interior!

I've been waiting for these reviews to start coming out. Good to see. This was one of the vehicles I was considering to purchase 6 months ago. It wasn't quite out yet and I figured the pricing might be a bit higher than I was comfortable spending. I ended up buying a Venza Limited as it offered a bit more luxury than a RAV-4 but would still be less expensive than the Lexus and our local dealer happened to have the exact model I'd buy on their lot. This new NX does look like a good vehicle, but I don't regret getting my Venza (especially considering the lack of inventory of most vehicles right now). While the NX uses the larger electric motor to bump the HP numbers up by 21, I never find my Venza lacking power during normal driving (it's not a racecar, but it's not a dog either). As an added bonus, my Venza runs on regular gas. In all, I saved likely $10-$15k by getting the Venza and didn't really give up much (I like Lexus, but I'm not a badge guy). As is common in reviews, I don't get why the manufacturers insist on piano black plastics. They should really stop using it.

I’m getting my 350h premium delivered in the US at the end of March or first week of April.
I also concluded the 18 inch wheels were the way to go because there are better all season tires to choose from when the run flats wear out. More rubber and smaller rims are a much better choice for wintry northeast roads and will hold up better in roads with potholes.

    1) This Lexus model targets a semi-older audience who doesn’t need that much except for reliability, good fuel economy, and the luxury feel. Despite its competition, Lexus will still see this model sold on the market anyways.
    2) The size is sufficient for a couple with a maximum of 3 kids. It gets the job done, has decent cargo space, and has a cabin noise that isn’t overly obnoxious.
    3) I agree that the pricing is pretty ridiculous if you want to upgrade to higher trims.

This latest generation is a lot simpler and cleaner looking which may seem like its cheaper. But after looking at both generations in person, I prefer the cleaner look and I feel this one feels just as solid and the materials are just as good if not better in some respects. While I wouldn't pretend the current Venza has identical ride or fit-finish as the 350h, for me it is pretty great. And it uses regular gas, not premium. I have noticed in the past couple of weeks during our cold snap that the mileage is more like 9-9.5 L/100km (range of about 550km with a full tank), with seat warmer, front and rear defogger, and the windshield defroster turned on, and the 3-4 minutes of idling to brush off the snow and scrape the windshield. Still, the saving at the gas pump is pretty sweet.

I am skeptical with these new powertrains in a all new model. If anyone can get it right initially it is Toyota, especially Lexus. If you could live with a smaller SUV, I would buy the Japanese built UX that has been out for a while allowing Toyota/Lexus to iron out any wrinkles. On the other hand, if you do not mind going up a size, then the RX is a better choice but slightly more expensive. It comes with the V6 which is phenomenal in both performance and fuel economy for its size. These turbo 4 cylinder engines are too tractor like and really take away the true essence of luxury. They may work for the RAV4 but not for Lexus. Lexus needs to offer a V6 hybrid powertrain on the NX and the next generation RX (which it will not). CVT experiment needs to stop and be replaced by a well tuned 9 or 10 speed automatic. In the city in slow traffic it works but everywhere else it’s a like a constant whining passenger that you cannot stop and get rid of.

If you are a woman don’t buy this car. It’s not safe because there are situations where you can’t lock the doors. When you open the hatch all 4 doors unlock. If you want to lock them you can’t, even if you try-not with the key, not using the lock button inside the door, not with the touch lock on the door handle. With effort you can get the dealer to change this as it’s a dealer programmable option, but it will only work with the key fob. If you use the “hands free” option to open the hatch all 4 doors will unlock and you can’t change that. Another problem is that you can only lock the doors if all 4 doors are closed. One of the most unsafe features is that the default setting is for all 4 doors to unlock when the car is put in park. Luckily this is an option that can be changed on the vehicle settings. Make sure to change that right off the bat as there is no audible feedback to indicate whether the doors have been locked or unlocked. If you miss the little display on the dash you won’t know it happened.
