👉This sad folk song is about a Cossack who tells his bad dream and suspects that he will die. This song is well known in Russia - a folk hit (Russians love melancholy, sad songs).
Diana hits the heart with her voice. I feel the fear and despair of the Cossack. Just as the ice freezes under Diana's feet, so my soul freezes at these plaintive tones.
The guest of honour, said Diana would one day be as famous as the well-known legendary Russian singer Ludmila Zykina. Marc Tishman, one of the singers and jurors, gave a wonderful rating. He did not see the Cossack on stage who has a frightening dream of falling from his horse, but he saw a beautyful bride who is about to be married and who is worried about how her life will go.
The first existing recording of this song was made in the 1880s by a 75-year-old Cossack.
Who were the Cossack?
The word comes from the Turkic (not Turkish) 'quzzaq' which means adventurer or free man. - were escaped serfs and adventurers. (Difference between Turkic and Turkish - czcams.com/video/PqxhtBecVeg/video.html ).
The history of the Cossack is very changeable and painful. These fierce warriors, who are excellent riders, have an air of romance about them. They lived quite isolated in the southern steppe region of Eastern Europe, Ukraine and the Asian part of Russia. Living in the middle of nowhere, they have developed their own culture and tradition, which is expressed in a certain way of life, in their own songs, clothes, etc.
Initially, the Cossack were oppressed by Catherine II and put up resistance. Catherine II soon recognized the advantages of border protection by light cavalry and assigned the Cossack their own territories on all of the empire's endangered borders. They provided the best riders in the Russian cavalry.
Loyalty to the tsars was rewarded with a great deal of independence and special rights. But precisely because the Cossack always stood by the tsars, they were persecuted, exterminated or deported after the 1917 revolution. But the Cossack spirit, traditions and especially their music did not dissipate. Cossack songs are one of the most important elements of their ethnic identity.
During World War II, Cossack in Europe volunteered under German command in hopes of returning home.
After the German defeat, the Cossack were handed over by the Western Allies to the USSR (Stalin) in Lienz/East Tyrol on June 1, 1945, in violation of the Geneva Convention.
Stalin pursued the Cossack and finally destroyed them. Many were deported to Siberia.
During the Soviet era, especially in the Stalin era after World War II, the number of Cossack fell from an estimated 11 million to 140,000. Only in 1992 were the Cossack rehabilitated by Boris Yeltsin (perestroika). Only a few Cossack survived and are now trying to build a new life for themselves.
For centuries, the Cossack kept to their customs, especially their music, an art of expression full of deep melancholy and exuberant temperament. These songs live on in the hearts of Russians. (www)

Hi,
Diana, like everyone else, wasn't born a singer. Although, it does seem to me that she was born to be a singer. She has her naturally unique voice, she has a great love for music, and has a great artistic understanding of music.
But, Diana also puts in the work. There are many videos of her lessons. She has the work ethic of an elite professional athlete.
P.S. I don't like to use the label of "singer" to categorize Diana. It seems like I am insulting her by using this shorthand descriptor.
To me, Diana is an artist. Her voice, and her movements, and facial expressions are only the tools that she uses in order to deliver her messages.

If there is a song by Diana that astonishes every vocal coach, it is Rechenka. She is using so many unusual techniques in that song that are rarely heard to great effect. It is hardly believable that she sang it this way at only 14 years old.

The song performed by Diana has its own history, it is a folk song performed by Cossacks (the song has several alternative versions).
Russia has experienced many encroachments on itself over many centuries of its history, and this song tells about the experiences of a young Cossack who had a mysterious dream that foreshadowed trouble (war is coming) on the eastern border.

I've followed Diana from Texas for years. She's amazingly unique. She's 18 in this performance. I think you would ejoy her live cover in French called Dernière Danse, or her English cover of Wicked Game live on stage. Thank you so much for your reaction. I believe that Diana's singing is a combination. I think she was born with exceptional larynx and vocal cords which she then spent years developing. In this performance she was 18 and has been singing since she was 5 with quite a few years doing stage performances. This is one of the several most known in Russia Cossack dramatic vocal ballads. This particular song is full of dark omens about the mortal dangers of Cossack life - the way of the warrior fighting for freedom (for twelve hundred years the Cossacks were defending the local population and their own families from the foreign slave traders). Diana's interpretation of this Cossack song is quite impressive ! But after Pelageya's (another Russian female singer) cover of this song I can only feel pity that no male singer of the comparable vocal calibre is performing it for big audiences. Alas !

I think you would be so overwhelmed and impressed by her performance as well as her singing at age 14 she performed “Rechenka” on the show “You are Super” where she uses so many different vocal techniques, yodel and animal sounds. It’s a song of a young bride whose parents are no longer living. She comes to the River to get a blessing from their spirit hence “Rechenka”(little river). Greetings from Scotland! Please don't think this is a criticism because it is definitely not. I hear what you're saying about great singers being made with hard work and training and this is undoubtedly true in most instances. However, I have followed every song that this young lady has sung since she was first on stage as a 6yo. Not sure if you know her back story, but in my opinion, Diana was "created" by that experience, and a fair amount of biological attributes which are totally unique to her. Extremely unusual shaped and very agile larynx and pharynx along with incredible vocal resonators and the natural ability to create polyphonic sounds quite naturally without any effort!
ANYHOW! 😊 This performance - This is a very, very old Russian folk song which practically every Russian knows by heart!
*OK, the basic story is -*
Diana tells of a young Cossack who has a strange dream on the night before a big battle, about being on his horse on the battlefield when suddenly an evil wind springs up from the East and spooks his horse, blowing his hat from his head in the process.
Confused by the dream, the young Cossack goes to see his Captain and relates his dream to him. The Captain says that it was not the wind which blew his hat off, but it was his head which was blown off! In other words, he dreamed of his own demise in the upcoming battle! Gruesome stuff!
There are many, different versions of this song with a variety of verses added or removed over the years but Diana adds extra depth and emotion to it, which is something she does extremely well!

Сбитый с толку этим сном, молодой казак идет к своему капитану и рассказывает ему свой сон. Капитан говорит, что это не ветер сорвал с него шляпу, а это у него оторвало голову! Другими словами, он мечтал о собственной гибели в предстоящей битве! Отвратительная штука!
Существует множество различных версий этой песни с различными куплетами, добавленными или удаленными на протяжении многих лет, но Диана придает ей дополнительную глубину и эмоциональность, что у нее получается чрезвычайно хорошо!

The way she sings this song with gasps, to me, adds so much feeling to it. This piece and "Ornery Horses" both have that in common and I like those best out of all her fantastic music. She is, plainly stated, delicious!!!
