    Great overview. Thanks. I've been wondering for the last 2-3 years why the mini-LED tech hasn't hit the consumer market at a price point for the average user. It seems strange to me that the tech isn't being utillised while OLED is now becoming available at a cheaper price point. I'd love to see the mini-LED as a standard and for it to be available in sRGB and standard colour setting as the consumer would benefit from great picture quality and not be afraid of burn-in. But here's the question; will it? What will come first I wonder. OLED no longer suffering from burn-in or mini-LED at all picture/panel settings?

    • @ohkey2999
      @ohkey2999 Před rokem +7

      The burn in is still there.

    • @FNLNFNLN
      @FNLNFNLN Před rokem +55

      OLED comes with obsolescence built in at the tech level, MiniLED will last you a decade easy.
      As for which one will get it's problems fixed... neither will ever. Burn in is fundamental to OLED technology. It can't be "fixed". In terms of contrast and color performance, MiniLED ought to be able to catch up with OLED pretty quickly... if there's investment. But even then, OLED is probably still going to be superior in terms of response time, since switching an LED on or off is always going to be faster than the liquid crystals in an LCD literally moving to block light or let it through.
      The real solution for both of these, and kind of where you end up anyways as you "fix" their problems, is MicroLED, aka, OLED except with non organic LEDs that don't have a built in chance to degrade, or miniLED when zone count = pixel count and you can just get rid of the LCD. That or AMQLED, which is MicroLED except the LEDs are based on quantum dots.
      When either of those will come to market... who knows. Samsung is allegedly releasing a MicroLED TV for the low low price of.... $80,000. How long that will take to get down to something reasonable, if ever, who knows.
      As for AMQLED, some Chinese company released a tech demonstrator a while back, but I haven't seen any rumors of anyone trying to go commercial with them, and I've seen some studies bringing up issues with... burn in.

      There is also something that Samsung is working on:
      The basic idea is that you have an OLED display if a single color and a filter that "produces the final color". Tha backlight is an OLED basically. (QDOLED if I am not mistaken)
      This allows for more resistant OLED, while having multiple colors

When I updated Kodi to the latest version, there is a specific option for HDR tone mapping that can be enabled. Great review! If I understood correctly, I can turn off HDR and local dimming while doing office work. and the display will turn to a basic IPS, there will be no blooming?
    Some context for my plans:
    I am looking to buy a new display (actually my first display in 20 years as I was only using laptops due to spatial constraints). My main computer will be a Mac (MBP14 I currently already own). I am planning to do some music production, occasional really basic video edit, otherwise it will be more or less office work (reading pdfs, writing documents, preparing presentations).
    Additionally I plan to connect a Playstation 5 to the same display.
    At first I was looking at Ultrawide displays, but they are no good for PS5 and also only 1440p. I understand Mac OS has limitations with scaling & 1440p is a great resolution for the system. I am afraid the jagged text and my OCD with pixel peeping would go into overdrive...
    So next I settled on the Gigabyte M32u, but it has the problem, of only 15W PD via USB C, so there is no way to have only one cable going to my MBP. Next I came across the Cooler Master and eventually the KTC. I hate that they are 27", as I went to a local Media Markt and sat at a desk with a 27" monitor and next 32" one, and the 32" seem like a sweet spot to me... But coming from a tiny 14" laptop screen, 27" will seem huge once home with no 32" monitor next to it.

    honestly if you can't afford or don't want to get an oled, you could get a va monitor of the newest generation.
    I've got the aoc agon ag275qxn which is around 300-320 $/€ and i really like it. It's flat(!), 1440 p and the colors and contrast are amazing! plus it has a faster panel than older va monitors so the typical side effects of va monitors really arent't that noticable if you're not looking for them with a microscope. Sure it's not an oled but for the money i'm really happy with it . Liebe Grüße 😜

      How does mini-LED compare to OLED? I heard OLED was much better, totally another level. But maybe it was said by people who followed the OLED marketing hype and are now justifying their expensive purchase.
      It feels wrong to have OLED for PC, for the concern of burn-in. I wouldn't be able to use it normally. OLED would be only good for movies/gaming, so as a TV.
      I want to upgrade my monitor now, and am thinking, should I take a 4K mini-LED? IPS or VA.

      watch the Hardware unboxed test he compared miniLES to OLED and his conclusion was that miniLED with a lot of zones gives you pretty much OLED blacks

    • @heroninja1125
      @heroninja1125 Před 11 měsíci +1

      @@stanislavkimov2779 a good quality mini-LED will give an oled a run for its money, part of it is oled marketing however if you REALLY want absolute perfect blacks 100% of the time then oleds are for you, and if you want the 100% best gaming monitor then oleds are for you, however mini-led monitors will give you way better brightness and often colors as well for a lower price, and consequently you will get a better monitor for the same price as a 4k 160hz miniled with stunning colors will set you back just as much as a 1440p 144hz oled monitor with subpar colors.

  • @mk_787

    MiniLED is definitely the future because it's cheaper and theoretically not inferior to OLED at all. If one day somebody figures out how to put 1920*1080 zones into a panel, thing will look very very bad for OLED as it has much worse lifespan compare to MiniLED.

    • @heroninja1125
      @heroninja1125 Před 11 měsíci +2

      Micro-LED is basically what you described, each pixel is its own dimming zone, or more accurately its just oled but the lighting element for each pixel is a non organic compound which makes it an LED as opposed to the carbon based organic element used in OLED (which causes burn in and lower brightness)

    OLED is not an option since i need 4K and the text clarity is not good enough (messy subpixel-layout).
    Whats left? VA Panel? IPS-Black (limited to 60hz)?

    idk guys. I bought ktc m27t20 (1440p VA) and the blacks are really something you want, but I really mind that when you have areas that are only 50 light up you can see that back light is also turned down. so you are in situation when differnt between fully light up part of screen vs part of screen thats light up only for 50% brightness is higher than it should be. because pixels are set to block 50% of the light and then another 50% its taken from local dimming and its just looks like a broken monitor to me sometimes.
    plus whole hdr 1000 isnt good. like do you really want to get your eyes burned out in your evening play? it might be goog if you play in summer day, but i dont. i personally bought it with the hope for better blacks... and it's doing it in some ways, but in other ways it's ruining it.
    i'll probably going to return it. and I'll also sell my IPS monitor and just buy a VA panel. it has better blacks than IPS and with the good VA you should see smearing. i would be really happy if i could just buy this same version of the monitor without the mini-LED. i know that i can just turn off the local dimming, but that would be a waste of money.
    one day maybe I'll just buy woled monitor.

The reason why I am asking this is because I would like to use the monitor both for work (usb-c adds some convenience) and gaming. Also, would it be possible to cover why a lot of the new monitors do not come with usb-c out of the box (I guess price plays some role here)? The new LG monitors look awesome but for some reason they do not add usb-c. At this price I would expect this port to be there.
