A trick I learned is that if you have a door that sticks, and when you open it, it pops. Use Vaseline where it sticks on the door jam. I also put it on the hinges to remove any squeaks too.

Use 3 in 1 oil on all of your door hinges to keep them quiet and in good shape.
Regarding air filters.. Just buy the cheapy thin ones. Thick filters require more power for the AC to push air through, increasing your electric bill. The best way to keep your air clean is by keeping your house cleaned. The cheapy air filter will easily last 6 months if you clean your house once every 1 or 2 weeks.

I'd recommend putting some vinegar in a spray bottle and coating the inside of your dishwasher every so often. Keeps the icky white stuff away. Good tips all-around, and gives me something to do today.

vinegar is also good to clean the air from smells, so put some in a bowl and have it sit in the room for a day or two depending on the need.
for dishwasher you can also just put a ½ citrus in it for a wash, to clear the smell.

You write the date *outside*, so you can be reminded at a glance. It is useless to have it written inside. :) You can write it on a piece of masking tape for example. Writing the date inside is good for something that you only replace when it is dead, like battery in the TV remote, when you are curious to know how long they last.
And when using split systems, you should clean the filter every 2 weeks.

Some other things to consider (and save energy):
    - Flush water heater tank
    - Clean HVAC condenser coils
    - Clean/replace HVAC humidifier and pad
    - Clean dehumidifier filter and drain/bucket
    - Clean refrigerator coils

Quick tip, I wash my dishwasher filter after every wash, it ensures that my drinking glasses don't have that funky odor of old food sticking to them, it only takes a minute and I have a bottle if dish soap and a bottle brush with soft bristles, that is used exclusively fir this purpose. The brush gets washed in the dishwasher to prevent a bacteria buildup What I also do about once a month is put my dishwasher on a hot cycle with only a cup of vinegar and some baking soda instead of detergent, afterwards I put it on a pre-wash cycle. It looks brand new afterwards. PS. Remember to top up your rinse aid and coarse salt in your dishwasher, this prevents bacteria growth and ensures crystal clear glassware. 💫

Another way to remember is to get them on auto-ship. Just set it to 3 months, then whenever they show up at the door, swap them out.

Check the attic in early spring for any winter damage and roof leaks, and check your vents /screens! It’s a lot cooler than summer!

Ben! The baby will need clean air and sanitary utensils/ bottles. Those filters were pretty bad, I am glad the old lady did not see that. Also, I think people use high heat in the dishwasher for babies to help kill germs (Ive just heard that). Great video as always.

If one has a heat pump HVAC, the filter is often located at the air return vent in the living space as opposed to the main unit.

You need to finish cleaning the drain! Remove the sink plug, its the first thing to catch stuff. And while you have the plug out and the trap off push a paper towel through the pipe coming out of the sink. That way the whole first section of that drain is clean. The is especially import area on sink where make-up is cleaned off. It likes to slowly build on the side of that pipe. And its less then 5 minutes of extra work.

What's the white stuff all around in your dishwasher? Is your water really hard? If yes you can use white vinegar to clean it up. I've never done it but I wonder if you just run a cycle with a bunch of white vinegar instead of detergent? You'll probably need quite a bit more than the detergent you would normally use. Also, check your kettle!

Put the date on the side of the filter that you see when you open the panel, and set a reminder on your phone to change it.
For your smoke alarms, the manufacture date should be on a sticker on the alarm. You are correct to test them, as they have a 10 year life, but make sure you check the date on them to know when that clock started. .

Write the date on it and do it every 3 to 4 months that’s ts how I do mine and buy the cheep ones because those make your unite use less power and clean the some amount of dust

No one drains the P trap. I know many a plumber and all laughed upon hearing your suggestion.
Also not all dishwashers have filters. Lastly if going to clean filter, why not clean dishwasher. Yours obviously needs a run with vinegar.

  • @jameswturley

When cleaning a sink trap, don't empty the bowl down the same sink before you re-fit the trap. Don't ask how I know this lesson.
