  • Wall kicking exercise is very efficient in swimming. You can improve your kicking power and become faster in swimming. Tips: make sure you hands touch the wall during this drill. Do this exercise for 10 to 20 seconds with rest, then repeat several times.

Yet, these are incredibly important for someone to swim properly with their feet, using their legs, and body movements in many ways of swimming the proper and safest way.

    Most people says you only get 5-15% propulsion from your kick but in my case i can get about 30% propulsion at a good pace. I can easily compete with my co-swimmer just by kicking!

      yeh,i have leg injury(shins-chronic compatment syndrome)and i cant run/ride a bike,but i can swim,and best goes freestyle,BUT i cant fullly use my legs,if i do i get cramp in my shin muscles,so my legs just floating a bit,i try to use as little power as posible just to keep legs moving/kicking beneath the surface,if i do use more power with my legs then swimming is much more eazy,i go faster and i dont have to get all the power out of my upperbody

      Unlike in other strokes, breaststroke requires to keep you feet pointed out. Squeeze around and push part, however, bring them together.

    I am have been swimming three times a week for four months and for the first time i can see i actually have waist so i am delighted. However, i want to tone more, i wantto work the lower abdomen and love handles, i have a kickboard and pullbuoy and now getting my head under the water when using the kickboard to maximise the work on the lower core, what else can i do? I cannot stay any longer in the pool but it is getting easier so less efffective. I dont eant paddles or fins.

      One of the most efficient ways to improve your swimming is doing exercises on dryland. Going to the gym and standing in plank position will definitely improve your core as well as kicking freestyle in sitting position. Thanks for watching the video!

      You need to do core-strengthening exercises, this is where the power you need will come from. Also just practice, a LOT! It takes time but it is oh so worth it if you love the water like I do!

    Do you have tips for developing shoulder mobility?

    • @SwimTechniqueTV
      @SwimTechniqueTV  Před 7 lety

      Thank you for your question. Something as easy as warming up before swimming will prevent injuries and help you rotate arms in the water with ease. One particular exercise we use is grabbing the towel with both hands at a length of your shoulders (you can start wider in order prevent injuries) and rotate arms back and forth. This should increase your flexibility over time.

      +Marcel Lennartz Have you tried asking somebody to film you underwater so you could see what your kicking looks like underwater? Then you can compare it with other videos and see what can be done better. In general, keep you foot relaxed and pointing inside, try not to bend your knees (does not apply to breastroke). Specifically in butterfly kicking, elasticity would be the key. Hope that helps a bit and thanks for stopping by and watching the videos!

    • @SwimTechniqueTV
      @SwimTechniqueTV  Před 9 lety +4

      Let us give you a few pointers here. When kicking in freestyle or backstroke, make sure you foot is relaxed and pointing inside. Try not to bend your knees but rather achieve elasticity all the way from an upper part of your leg. Last but not least, keep your heels in the water under the surface and create a little fountain that's coming from your kicking! Good luck and thanks for watching the video!

    • @SwimTechniqueTV
      @SwimTechniqueTV  Před 7 lety +2

      To help you a little bit with kicking we can recommend the following tips: make sure your feet are relaxed and pointing inside, place both hands on top of the kick board and hold the top edges with both hands. Engage you thighs and try not to bend your knees (natural bend will still occur due to kicking). Last but not least, it is not a bad idea to try kicking with fins first and get the motion idea. Lots of our students learned freestyle kick that way! Good luck and thanks for watching!

    Kicking against a wall is the worst way to improve your kick as you have no way to measure your propulsion. You should always use a kickboard or any other way that allows you to move forward and feel the effect that any change has on your kick.

    • @SwimTechniqueTV
      @SwimTechniqueTV  Před 7 lety

      +Fernando PerezGil Thanks for stopping by and watching! Actually this is just one of the examples how you can improve your kick in swimming. Another great way is kicking without a keyboard while in streamline position. Not sure if you heard about this exercise but it really straighten your core and makes you feel how powerful your kick is. There are definitely a lot of great exercises but they not necessarily have to be all with kickboard. Cheers!

    • @fernandoperezgil1756
      @fernandoperezgil1756 Před 7 lety

      Absolutely, kickboard is not mandatory. My personal experience with kicking against a wall is terrible... I was taught to kick against a wall and my kick is really bad as I never had the chance of measuring the effect and it developed into an energy consuming with minimal results effort to the extent that I don't kick anymore. Lately I've been using fins to develop muscle memory and to be able to distinguish the effect of any changes I make to my technique and it has somehow helped in slightly improving my lousy kick.... All this is the effect of learning at a young age to kick against a wall.

      Thank you for your feedback. We truly appreciate it! However, our intention with this channel is not teaching people but rather introduce our services. People who would like to learn how to swim or improve their skills work directly with us at the pool. Let's agree, it would be naive to learn swimming by just watching a video. If you want to learn (including kicking), you actually have to visit the pool.
