There are hundreds of sharpening videos. But you have *VITAL* information that other people don’t mention. In such a short time, you managed to explain everything about sharpening. This is why I love your content. I learn so much.
👊
Exactly this.
This is the first knife sharpening video that makes sense to me. Thank you.
This is probably the most concise and easy to follow knife sharping videos that I have seen to date. Excellent instruction!
i got an idea.. how about a video for sharpening stones for different budgets? 🎉
I GOT YOU
Bang! you the man!
Would be great!🙏
This would be amazing!! Burrfection has a few videos, but something from you with different budgets would be amazing!! Thanks for the video as always
@@NeevesKnives What do you think of the Naniwa Super Stone 12000? Do you use it? Do you like it?
I've been sharpening for over 20 years and I still learn things from watching your videos. Small refinements and techniques. Very cool.
👊 we all continue to learn if not then we are doing something wrong
Hello there. It seems as though you are questioning my integrity. Suggesting that I may be misrepresenting myself simply because I'm on Online. Not very nice. This is a supportive community. If you don't have anything positive to say perhaps you shouldn't say anything at all.
@Seth Price I'm confused all I said was it's great we all continue to learn, nothing negative no disrespect.
Nah man, I love your show, I'm a member I watch everyday. That wasn't for you. There was a guy who sent me a comment insinuating that I was being dishonest because it was a CZcams comment. He also said that a 12 year old could figure this stuff out in a day. He must have deleted his comment I cannot find it. My apologies If you felt that it directed was towards you. I just hate bullies in the comment section. This is a great community and I'd like to keep it that way.
Nothing but love for you bro.
Take care.
@@sethprice241 oh OK 😆 🤣 I was so confused 👊
Been sharpening for awhile now your videos have taught me WAY more than all the others I’ve watched combined by a landslide! This is one your best ones!
Glad to help AND THANK YOU
Absolutely.
Thank you Jared. No BS, clear and concise. Maybe someday I'll get to within 30% of your skill.
Beautiful job explaining the process! Thank you, I am getting better and better with practice
Clear, Concise, Work Showed. Respect 🙏
Thanks Jerad for pointing me towards the Ultra Sharp diamond stones and gunny juice. My love for sharpening has grown a lot ever since, and your videos have definitely helped me get past the learning curve
That's amazing!! Keep it up it's amazing how much progress you can do especially if you take your time and enjoy it, it's OK if it's not perfect that's how you will learn
DUDE those slices at the end were jaw dropping. Thanks for sharing!
Great sharpening vid Jerad I've always done good at sharpening but your vids have allowed me to improve over time even an old dog can learn a few new tricks lol. Thanks for the great vid Jerad and keep making sharp things fun and enjoyable
Can't even lie man, I didn't know what I was doing until I used your tutorials. Thank you from a real student and knife lover.🎉
Your scratch pattern tip just got me the sharpest freehand edge I've ever had! Thanks!
That is amazing hell yeah! 👊
Thank you for sharing that information. You got a really good channel here. Im happy to watch it daily. Good stuff!
Very good content as always Mr NEEVE.
Thanks !
Your the best sharpener out there Neeve.
You just showed and explained that in such an understandable and relatable way.
Great Video bro.
Thanks man, this has taught me more in 3 mins than most "how-to" vids out there! Thanks, from a new knives guy.
👊
I want to genuinely say thank you for all of your videos, sir!! I have learned so much from watching them, and my knife, sharpening skills have vastly improved!
That just made my day, thank you 👊
Hey Jerad, excellent job on the video ! My skills on sharpening over the last 2 years skyrocketed thanks to you teaching the fundamentals, granted I use a K03 to sharpen , but I feel if I had to sharpen freehand I can do it with little to no problem, the fundamentals are there! Bang ‼️
👊
Thanks for the sharp advice. I'll give this method a try.
Your videos have helped me tremendously thank you!
Happy to help!
Awesome video! I've been sharpening for a while but you really made it easy to envision. Keep up the great content brother
best advice on CZcams.
A jeweler's loupe helps a lot to look at your blade edge to see if you're grinding your edge all the way from heel to tip and to see your burr (although you should be able to feel it).
Approaching Master territory. Passing on skill sets. Thanks Boss.
You bet
Thanks for the video.Ive successfully sharpened my first knife.Key word successfully.
Awesome 👊
Great video and explanation Jerad! Simple and sweet 👊
Well done! Excellent tutorial!
Thanks for dropping the knowledge bombs. It gives me hope for humans when people help others just because they can. 👍
👊
Thank you Jared.!
Great video. I like the animation you added in, it’s a definite added value.
this is awesome, i just got the worksharp. Going to see how it goes with the guided angles, got the 5/17/20/25!
Thank you for the sharing!
Man I really appreciate the level of detail in your explanation. If there’s anybody I trust to listen to about sharpening, it’s you. There’s certainly lots and lots of videos showing masters at sharpening but they suck at teaching and helping people actually understand the process and be able to recreate their methods. You’re an absolute treasure.
🙏
Very nice video! Comprehensive!
Nice one man👌, tons of videos on sharpening but you added a few small but absolutely vital pointers that just made it click! Appreciate ya!
Noproblem 👊 thank you for watching
Great video!! Thanks
Nice clear guide. I must be ambidextrous, because I just switch hands and glide away when sharpening both edges.
Great video for people that don't want to watch a full length sharpening video 👍👍
thanks for info just starting to sharpen in my sixties .. my dad used an old oil stone ?? But now after your video . I see says the blind man .
Terrific video Jared.
I'm still having a time with it but I ain't quit'n!
There ya go, no give
Sweet! Thanks man!
Great video man,I really like the sharpening videos.
I can sharpen decently, but I love seeing someone else's input.
So nice. Thank you.
2:24 do we pressure on the forward pass (cutting into the stone) or backward pass (away from the stone)? Or is the pressure the same on both passes?
That freaking AMAZING!!! You make it look so easy. I'll sharpen one time and it works perfectly, then the next time it's about as sharp as a brick. I can't tell what I've done different. Anyways, love the video as always. Best wishes to you all.
You just have to keep practicing so you will start being able to identify exactly what your doing
BANG!!!🔥 Jerad on point.
Yasssss, saving this for later. Been trying some lately, my Worksharp precision adjust fixed an extremely blunt budget WMF kitchen knife. Happy how that turned out, but clearly I need a ton of practice
Awesome glad to hear jfyi I do have multiple videos on that work sharp also video on upgraded attachments to take it to next level
@@NeevesKnives I know, I've seen them as well, and that helped a lot. Before that I was clueless as to how to spot when to switch the stones and usually botch everything. Once again, thanks for being such an upstanding guy and sharing your wisdom with the rest of us.
What the best rod to use for a bowie kinfe... I'm not good on the stone and I'm slow any info you can give me... thank you...
Its a j type motion on the strop. Never want to go blade towards leather 💯 🙌 thinks for the video 🙌
This very helpful. I did a 12-month culinary course, but they spent very little time on knife-sharpening so it never quite clicked for me. They did make us all buy a steel to hone the knives with, which I'm told is supposed to remove small burrs. Is it interchangeable with a strop?
Awesome video. Since you recommend 600 grit for the final sharpening, what size of grid should we begin first? You did not mention the first stone's grid size in the video.
Thanks for this.
Loving the salt and pepper beard. Need to grow mine out to see what whites I've accumulated. Also, awesome video. Very informative!
👊
Thanks, great video. What is your opinion of a 1000x6000 sharpening stone?
!!!Great Video!!!
1. Sharpen side A until scratch pattern is completely down the bevel and a burr has formed on side B.
2. Sharpen side B until scratch pattern goes completely down the bevel and burr has formed in side A.
3. De-burr side A using a single reverse pass.
4. De-burr side B using a single reverse pass.
5. Repeat 3 and 4 until there is no burr.
Did I get that right? I don’t need to do major reprofiling, so I just grabbed a 600 grit diamond stone from your Amazon store. Love the work you do bro!
Great video!
Are all straps the same or should you look for apmething specific
I only sharpen blades against the edge with frequent flipping to opposite sides. It certainly takes longer, but There is never a burr that way.
I've learned how to sharpen cutting edges for lathe cutting tools.
Thanks needed to sharp my hatchet I am cutting down a lot of big ass weeds.
could you share the name of the sharpener you were using in this video I really liked that and was interested in purchasing it.
Hello, I have been trying to understand when and how to use stones depending on their grain size. I don't know how often I should use a 300-500-700 stone.Thank you
Well done.👍
Fabulous edge.
This video needs to climb up to millions of views 😉
i hope so
Great video
Do you use oil or water with a diamond block?
Thank you
Awesome how to for people that have short attention spans brother 👍
👊
Great vid.
Does the height of the blade matter when it comes to the angle?
Hey Jerad! Thanks for the video, I have been trying to sharpen my old hunting knife for a while now and haven’t been successful till now. It had all kinds of chips in the blade and had to be completely re-profiled, I was able to get it hair splitting sharp with the help of your video! Quick question, do you use oil on the Worksharp benchstone? It says no water or oil needed on it but wasn’t sure.
thats awesome and im glad the videos help, and no i use them dry i prefer to use diamond plates dry , but you can use water or soapy water which can make them last longer
Awesome Thanks J
Starting to get fancy with illustrations.
i think fresh blades can start closer to 20deg and then gradually go to 17 as the the edge wears down with time. that way it naturally saves you time
Do you have the compression lock folder??
Hi there,
Thank you foe the video's they are excellent!
One question, do you put pressure both was when sharpening, pushing and pulling or only one direction?
Thsnks again,
John.
if im going in both directions i put light pressure on both, you want to let the diamonds or stone do the cutting you have to apply a little pressure but you dont want it to effect your ability to maintain angle which is most important
@@NeevesKnives thank you, that is what it looked like you were doing.
I thought I read somewhere before, for e.g. you only put pressure as you push forward but no pressure on the way back.
Thanks,
John
It's very important that you get to that tip.
We use linoleum knives for cutting excess fiberglass resin of bathtubs and if the catalyst dried it too fast then your gonna havehatd time sharpening..we do it on a machine...could you do a video like that
What if the burr just keeps flipping and won’t flake off? Go back the the stone?
Amazing video. So the stropping is just for deburring? Or just after a full sharpening you strop just to debur and then you can strop just to maintain going forward?
Yes, you Strop to remove any remaining burr from your de burring process, you also Strop to maintain your edge between Sharpenings, you can also hone your edge, if stropping doesn't work then hone if that doesn't work then it needs another full Sharpening
Great video! Just bought an Atoma 400 with your link. Recommendations on whether, for atomas specifically, to use dry, with water, or oil?
YOU CAN USE WATER AND IT MIGHT MAKE IT LAST A LITTLE LONGER, I PREFER USING THEM DRY BECAUSE I JUST HAVE TO DUST THEM OFF AFTER, BTW THANKS FOR USING MY LINKS THE ATOMA ARE AMAZING
When you say 600 grit, would that be JIS, or FEPA?
Is it feasible to sharpen like this with only one hand ? I'm a stroke survivor / left hand only.
Thanks
Which link in your description has the stone you are using in the video? Is it the KPL link?
look in the neevesknives store link it has sharpening supplies in there that i use and rec
Sweet brother 👍💯
is it actually matter how much degree angles? lets say between 15 and 20 as long as i sharpened consistency
WOW Jared. Cool video. It does take time to get a technic, right? What do yo think about using a sharps on the blade? Thx
That’s sharpe.
I think a sharpe is good if it helps you, I tend to try and look at the scratch pattern but it's the same thing the marker just makes it easier to see. And yes there's always a bit of a learning curve but with a little practice it's like riding a bike
Hey Jerad, I'm running into an issue and I'm not sure if you've covered it in a video or not but I'm getting a different angle when I switch sides. Using TSPROF BLITZ 360 and the right side is taller than the left. Any ideas? Thanks in advance!
So there's a few different ways to deal with it, one is work on the smaller side longer on order to make them match better which I do have a video on. The other is your gonna have to adjust with every flip, now in many cases the grind is off and there's not much you can do but what I just said, last when your clamping try to get the two sides as close as possible, the angle won't be perfect but if you can get them close unless the grind is off they should match
@Neeves Knives thanks for getting back with me Jerad I appreciate it. I'll see what I can do. Your videos are helpful and have really been educational and it's inspired me to learn more about my passion for knives & sharpening. Hope all is well your way!
Could you please do a spearpoint blade sharpening video? Preferably with the worksharp or a guided system? Plllleeeeeease 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
Nice
Problem is, most if us don't want to take the time to do that. Is there a quicker way for sharpening steak knives. Like multiple knives?
How do you guesstimate the coarseness of stone you want to grind then hone your blades on? You said 600, is that just a universal coarseness? Ive been using 400 then 1000. Getting sharp, but not how i want it.
So can I just go grab a stone for my backyard and just get to work?
What if the angle you pick is different from the original angle? Seems to me like you want to hit the exact angle that the knife came with unless you are willing to reprofile?
You are going to reprofile most likely anyway, even if you are close if will still be different, especially if it's a factory edge in that case I for sure want to put my own angle on it, but even when you try to match it you still could be off slightly and have to work until it's set
Hey Jerad, great video as usual, brother! You seem to like the Work Sharp bench stone. How about the Guided Sharpening System, the one that’s similar that has the upgrade kit. I remember you gave one away, what were your thoughts on that, or which, would you prefer of the two?
Are you talking about the work sharp precision, I actually still have one, and have multiple videos I think it's great especially if you get the aftermarket attachments that take it to the next level
@@NeevesKnives no I meant the one that’s like the bench stone. It’s the same pivot design but it comes with a ceramic rod attachment and you can get the upgrade kit for it.
Say J have you tried removing otf blades to use a roller sharpener? What's your expert opinion
no but i wouldnt rec it because they have narrow blades and the rollers dont seem to do well with narrow blades
@@NeevesKnives l thanks alot
