Something that i learned when using this is that i like to put erasers on my ceramic rods to get the metal off of it, i also like to put the plates through water to get the metal off as well from the plates. the goal here is to increase the lifespan of the plates by also maintaining it's ability to maximize the efficacy of sharpening. For those that havent cleaned their plates in a long while, use gentle dishsoap and a dollar toothbrush to brush along the plates to get all the metal shavings out of the diamond ridges. There is also an arrowhead holder behind the plates too, so you can lift the plates, put the arrowheads inside the slot, and then carefully sharpen. I need to get more compound to put on the strop but this is a nice video. thank you much!

I bought 2 of these based on reviews, one in the kitchen, one in the shop. Thanks for the very helpful "how to" video. And wow, I've never been very good at sharpening. Tip. The diamond surfaces, being magnetic, can be flipped over, thus protecting from dirt, etc. when transporting on camping/hunting trips, etc. I also find it's easier to hold the knife firmly by the handle and run the worksharp along the blade, rather than try to hold the worksharp by the end and run the blade along the abrasive surface. There just isn't enough to hold onto on the worksharp to keep it steady, and there are no tables out in the field to set it on anyway.

Having declared my dissatisfaction with this sharpener last night czcams.com/users/postUgkxDcr-y2Pf6xdnrFHrSP7dl9kpKaCozcSQ I thought about the problem some more. It occurred to me that I might be undoing each attempt at achieving a sharp edge by the repeated attempts. So, I tried to clean up the unsatisfactory result by honing with only positions 3 and 4.Miracle!! A really nicely sharpened chef's knife, more than enough to handle my needs. Admittedly, it did not reach professionally sharpened razor-fineness, but it is now significantly sharper than it was. A bout of breaking down carrots convinced me. So, major apologies to the manufacturer, Amazon, and all happy and potential owners! Follow the directions: don't buy it if you have ceramic blades; and don't overwork your knife blade.

It's $30. They've got basic sharpening for most people down to a fairly easy operation. You can buy the guided systems and get the perfect angle you desire....

What steel is your knife? Start at the coarse grit and raise a burr before switching sides.
