I've been using the in-ear headsets since the 1980s, for my 421 anyway. The headset I've had for the last several years is a Telex 5x5 Pro III. The 421 is probably the quietest of all piston engine planes out there, so it works well. However, there's no denying that Bose is an excellent brand.

This is pretty sweet! I currently have a lightspeed ANR headset and it’s getting the job done. I’m planning on having that get me through flight school and then once I get with a part 21 or 35 carrier then I’ll look at getting this style. Since it’ll be later down the road I’ll see what the latest model is.

I used bose QC25's for years until they very recently broke. Being used to cup earphones I then changed the QC20's and the in ear stuff is great. I kept it in on a 10 hour flight with noise cancelling on and couldn't hear anything on an a330.

  • @SEThatered
    @SEThatered Pƙed 5 lety +1

BOSE may be not the best noise cancelling choice any more, but as a whole it is a brand I can respect.
They make truly ergonomic designs, keep innovating, keep improving and the best of all their customer support is very very good (something that is becoming rare with big corporations).
Does cost premium, but I think it is justified for a good quality and support.
P.S. Their bluetooth speakers sound amazingly good for their tiny size.

Bose quality has been a high standard in the audio industry over the last 50 years. Even if you don't like Bose and considering other manufacturers, test the warranty. The Bose warranty is as good as gold. When you pay a lot of money for a headset, you want them to not only be good but also durable. Headsets may look flimsy, but Bose has done a good job of using quality materials that stand up to a lot of wear and tear....AND will stand by their warranty...even if you didn't buy your headset at the original store or don't have your receipt. I can personally attest to that!

Every time I am talking over the intercom or transmitting a call, my own voice volume is really low. I have the internal jumper for intercom to the default setting. Hi,
I'm an engineer who just recently found my way on to your channel. I have been thinking a lot about the topics you've covered, during my years of being a passenger, but I haven't brought myself to find these answers earlier.
I have found a increased interest in the physics, mechanics and the electronics used in modern passenger flights, through your channel, so thanks for that. Great explanations at a very comprehensive level, no matter your technical background. I also feel a lot more calm about flying as I've learned more about the security checks and all.
    However, I have a question that I don't think you've covered.
Why is the internal communication between the pilots in the cockpit and the rest of the people in the cabin having such low sound quality? (One way communication: Pilots -> Cabin crew and passangers)
This communication is usually pretty noisy and full of crackling, on all the different aircrafts I've been a passenger on.
Considering the aircraft costs a lot either way, is it really the case that they cut down on the costs of microphone and good enough speakers?
Is there any other factor I haven't thought of that would interfer, so that it is hard ending up with a signal with low disturbances?
    Thank you!

During takeoff and landing bluetooth and other electromagnetic waves are not permitted especially in this day and age of “fly by wire.” The Bose A20 plugs in directly into two jacks, one for the mic and one for the earphone. The bluetooth is more for when you rest and want to listen to music or watch a movie. Please note: the bluetooth is only for the earphone part and not the mic. Yes you can pair it with your cellphone but you still need your cellphone nearby for the person you are talking to to be able to hear you.

Tap control on 1 gen headset works very bad , especially during takeoff on Boeing 737 NG. When you close the window, tap mode regime automatically switches to low noise level. It’s like a hit on your ears. Noice reduction on high position works outstanding, but low level of noise mode works, on my opinion too loudly.

And when will they downgrade the price of the A20? Or should we prefer a Lightspeed headset?

Mentour, it was probably a mistake to ask for a thinner cable, as it will likely not be as durable now. Essentially you downgraded the headset. A better option to try would of been for Bose, or you, to design a clip device that would allow the cord to be anchored to your shirt or belt somewhere as a strain relief so the cord would not push or pull on your headset. As for the case they should of left it as is. You could of bought a Pelican case or a similar one from Harbor Freight and customized the inside foam padding to suit what you wanted for those quick plane changes.

Well-designed, high-quality silicone cables will last, even when they're thin like that. That cable sees much less wear than you might expect, it's not in a high-stress situation.

It's not really the rubber I'd be concerned about, but the reduction in wire gauge thickness, and its resistance to flex, pullout, and internal wire breakage at the bend points. The clip I mentioned would help avoid that at the headphone end.

The A20s come with two said clips and I'd imagine the original Proflights did as well. A cable that is heavier than the headset itself is not a good design, period. These 2.0s are intriguing but I'll keep using my A20s on the flight deck until possibly the 3.0s.
