  • In this video I was visiting AFTA in Cork and was given the chance to visit a class of Integrated pilot students.
I gave them the chance to ask their biggest questions about Airline training and Type Ratings and this video is the result!
I hope you will enjoy this Q&A session. If you have more, similar questions, feel free to contact me in the Mentour Aviation app-chat or during my in-app Live-streams.

Mentour Pilot (Peter) ..You are doing such a wonderful service for people trying to become pilots and for pilots already in their training. I wish I had a platform like this when I was young and full of the aviation bug.
I am proud to support you on Patreon, so I know of all the great things you are working on for the future of training in aviation in all aspects. I really believe that you are on the verge of changing how the aviation world recruits, trains, and hires pilots with a critical emphasis on people getting access to financing for pilot training.
I am proud to support you in this effort. I wish you would come to the states, specifically, San Diego, California, the home of aviation at Limburgh Field. It would be a very appropriate location for you to visit.

After watching this, I am extremely impressed with how much knowledge, experience, judgement, discipline, diligence, and exceptional smarts a good commercial airline pilot must have. The training, done right, seems as challenging as med school. And, like doctors, when you graduate, you're also responsible for lives, but hundreds at a time. Hats off to you all!

Ryanair! Exactly what I sidestepped by mentioning the unmentionable Irish airline: flying to abandoned airports an hour away from your destination so you spend the rest of a regular ticket on a reputable airline on transport, where luggage costs a fortune unless you fly with a rucksack, where co-pilots help out with collecting garbage left over to help with the fast turnaround, where pilots land an airplane like a lift run amok and where 250 ml of water cost 3 euros!

I think the aviation charts would be pretty demanding because there’s so much detail packed into a small area. Every symbol has attachments that changes the meaning of the symbol.Even the color denotes a difference . But it’s not as intimidating once you learn to interpret each one and don’t get overwhelmed. Sorry my English sucks. Cheers Bill. Ten minutes later I’m thinking being paired with a pilot who may need to be corrected or reminded a little when they’re more senior which can be challenging in some cultures.

This is why Petter recommends studiying the procedures before flying them, and using any time you get with the instructor before you enter the simulator to check on any points that aren't clear, because there are going points on more or less every procedure that new pilots won't be familiar with.

@@nothentaibutsenpai 3 captains, 3 1st officers? Thats enought if they do 12 hour days without time off. Prob more like 8-10 I would think now a days. They work 5 days on 5 days off at ryanair. 12 hr days they need minimum 8 pilots.

@@GeordieBoy69 Simple maths, 1 aircraft does 6 sectors a day or 180 per month. If a pilot works half a month on a 5/5 roster, he will fly 15 days x3 sectors 45 sectors (they either do 2 or 4, but 3 would be an average). So 4 sets of crew would be required for an aircraft to operate. BUT there are at least 6 crew per aircraft as some pilots are on holiday, some are doing standby, some are in the sims or its summer and everyone is flying.

@@bahenbihen some do 4 sectors day, some might do 2 or even 1. It all depends where the plane is going. So its not simple maths, would be impossible for us to work out unless we knew which plane it was and its roster for that month.

I am humbled by your knowledge to this regard and am experiencing a deep sense of remorse. I admit my mischievous pathetic attempt to poke fun at the MAX (yet again) has backfired on this occasion and I am left with a huge amount of egg on my face! My initial comment has now become a sad memory - nosediving into the ground, vapourising on impact.
