The riff at 3:04 always causes stank face. That thing is just good as hell, so fun to listen to
Yeah, stank face and nodding of the head. And goosebumps, too! Great riffing on this album overall. Once again.
Stank face! Hahahaha! It's so good!
Gets me everytime I hear it, so sick
Total QOTSA ripoff but they are the only band that's able to pull that off. It doesn't sound derivative, it fits. Just like music should be. Love the Jerry Cantrell inspired solo after it. Two of the best bands you could take inspiration from.
It appears by the comment section that the timestamp symphony of sounds starting at 3:03 deserves an award winning Idol statue for Mastodon to worship.
“Brents Song- Mastodon”
si
Sounds like he’s got quite a few on this album
He owns the middle of this album.
@@wobblynoggin he is on 2 songs guys
@@lucasstruna3962 huh???
The whole album is great, but this was an immediate stand out for me. This shit is gonna be a banger live.
Except they don't play it 😢
LYRICS:
The night I went under
And there was no one around
Nothing to swim to
Not the sky, not the ground
I heard you speak to me
And said to, "Just go down"
Swept away
In peaceful tranquility
I wish that I could stay
And I keep on waiting
For someone to save me
I keep waiting for someone to ask me, "What is your name?"
Swept away
In peaceful tranquility
I wish that I could stay
I've seen worse before
I've had trouble breathing
I've had scrapes and scars
Healing from lacerations
Bending from days on end
I get up and walk away
Through all the lies I told before
Well now, they've all come true
Never mind this screaming in the cold
And when I caught a glimpse of you
You were laughing at me and looking away
And I did everything I could
To try to get you to stay
I pass through dimensions
Leaving this plane
Turning into the ether
It changes everything
Swept away
In peaceful tranquility
I wish that I could stay
I can't hear at all
I've had trouble speaking
Will this heal my heart?
Relive the never-ending
Bending for days on end
I'll get up and walk away
Thanks for that. What lyrics !
Thanks, man
What can I say that's already been said brilliant perfection
This is a real triumph of creativity. Not many bands would have the testicular fortitude to make so many daring choices within one song or the craftsmanship to absolutely nail them all.
The song just slams you into the wall at full speed right away, and then it serenades you in your comatose state.
@@notsure1969 The first riff 🔥🔥
"testicular fortitude" will be the name of my tesis about Mastodon.
This is best way to describe this song. Mastodon made a masterpiece with this one. This is what a progressive song is.

Message to Mastodon from bands all over the world:
Leave some riffs for us.
First time I heard the 3:04 riff was when I fell asleep listening to Hush and Grim first time and missed a couple songs but I woke up right as the riff started so I ended up listening to it in a half asleep dream like state. It was awesome and it takes me back to that dreamlike state every time I listen to it now
I love that feeling when youre half asleep and hearing some badass tunes. Did they become a soundtrack to dreams inspired by themselves for you as well? I've watched the equivalent of an epic three hour trilogy in probably like ten minutes where I swore this was the best film I'd ever seen hahq
That opening is bringing some buckethead vibes, That's class right there. 🔥
then channels a bit of EVH (R.I.P.) vibe
I'm getting Revocation vibes. Dunno if the two bands ever toured together, but Troy did a collab with Dave of Revocation on a Megadeth cover.
@@CelticsDraftee I hear the Reveocation. I also hear the buckethead on Had It All.
@@CelticsDraftee Revocation*
I love the album. However, this song is just beyond incredible. A band 21 years into their careers and they release a song like this? fuck me, respect dudes.
1:00 I know that's Brent's Guitar Work. Man be such a genious banjo player with an electric guitar, love him.
I love it when heavy bands get away from their thrashy side and write something refined. This song is 10/10.
MastodonAF as soon as you hear it. Maybe my favorite off the new album. Havent decided yet, theyre all bangers.
Killer-triller bucket-riffage right off the jump. Scrumptious, boys. Absolutely decadent.
I wish people would just stop trying to compare this other bands or previous work Mastodon has done and just appreciate the music for what it is.
Brann is an absolute monster on this album. This song in particular keeps drawing me back in. The chorus has that groove, reminds me of the purdie shuffle. But the whole band pulls off some crazy riffs and transitions in this song, it's perfection and has superb engineering
Always blows my mind that, on top of that amazing tenor, he's a double-octopus on the drums.
This is some next level type of trippy psychedelic Mastodon music. So much going on in just one song!!.
Bruh
That opening minute and fifteen seconds got me in fetal position. They’re back. This album of their is so different! What a band. Always my favorite.
I find music helps with depression sometimes. I hope you get your shit together Hulk, we're all rooting for ya man.
I agree with Uvo, champ. Beat it brother
Yes they did, they had a few stinkers
Cheer up brother
Opening riff makes me headbang so hard I think I'm going to break my neck.
This is one of those songs that makes me wonder how influential the producer was on both this and Fear Inoculum, cuz the intro, with its parts crawling all over then changing into something completely different, gives me a strong Fear Inoculum vibe and I love it.
You reminded me that I haven't listened to FI in like, a year. Thank you.
I think this is my favorite song off the album.
That intro puts a huge smile on my face.
It's like Blood Mountain and OMRTS had a baby🔥🔥
Perfect!!
OMRTS is trash
This song is my favorite song off the album! Brent's vocals are simply jaw dropping. Love you Mastodon, keep on rockin \m/
Progressive and melodic... just brilliant stuff. Can't wait to see them next month.
It's been 2 months since you've posted this, so...
how was it?!
The break, the riff...man, I am overwhelmed by my feelings. Spinned the record around 20 times and am already tired of goozebumbs. Amazing, just amazing!
Holy crap, the first minute and a half of this song won’t get out of my head. Mastodon’s non-growling stuff is amazing and I’m definitely going to search for more!
I'm just happy to be here.
Love.
Somewhere between taking art lightly and seriously, there lies the beast of jenius.
These guys are right at this middle point for more than a decade now.
True masters at their craft
This album is masterful. Imma say it again. Super mature and dynamic approach to song writing and composition. Phenomenal
I’m loving this one. That riff, that tone, ugh. It just slaps
I hear some Voivod-esque vibes here and there. What a song!
Nice call... Voivod rules🤘🤘
There's a name I haven't heard in a while.
Totally hear some Voivod vibes in this song now that ya mention it,thought certain parts sounded familiar but couldnt pinpoint it.And Voivod were one of the orginators of prog Metal
My personal favorite from the album. The way it oscillates seamlessly between being intense and being soothing is nothing short of incredible.
Brent is the best songwriter in the band, hope he gets to write more on the next album
He is the main songwriter in the band.
@@jaderbarros4006 he only wrote 2 on H&G
@@jaderbarros4006 i think bill and brann have taken that title recently. Love them all though
We need more brent on future records
Yep
@Isik Can new guy? you mean the drummer who has been in the band since the begining? lol
@@lucasstruna3962 lmao I hope he’s not talking about Brann. We need an equal amount of vocals from Troy, Brent, and Brann on future records.
@@lucasstruna3962 I think he was making a joke about Brent being shy on this record, because his awesome vocals really seem to have been relegated to the background.
The best part is when the riff just keeps going and you're like "nice"
Egad’s! This is mental!
Thumbs up for the use of the word Egad's.
This whole album is a winner, all around a fantastic sound.
Incredible changes in just 6 minutes.
Grabs you by the nards, then shakes the brain innards, pulls you off the ground, then sets you down gently.
@@KrashmanVonStinkputn 🤘
My first favorite song for this album! An instantly enjoyable song
Consistently fucking awesome.
OMG - that riff at 3:03 - just one of many on this superb album!!
What a great song. I hear the EVH nod too
Always chills at Brent's verses
Honestly the best song on the record.
This whole album just completely rules! The tones are next level!!!
BLOOD MOUNTAIN VIBES
I thought the same! It's like if blood mountain, the hunter and baroness' blue record had a baby
what a beautiful baby
holy SHIT THIS SONG COOKS GOT DAMN
I really love Brent's voice
Plot spoiler. Dude sounds nothing like that live from the shows i've seen. "Studio assist & augmentation"
@@scottzody1842 who cares. in 30 years they won’t play live. albums are forever.
The most huge jazzbluesmetal song ever written!
This is the mastodon I needed
The opening riff sounds like I'm on a demented carnival ride and I literally had to pull over to fully take it in
134k views only after four months? The opening riff is the best I've heard in 10-15 years
That intro reminds me of the pre-breakdown section of Ectogenesis by AAL. Amazing track!
Or the bridge before the solo in jaguar god :)
I was thinking the exact same thing, that little legato run right in the beginning is straight out of ectogenesis
Ohh so that's what I was reminded of
this has some serious Baroness vibe to it!
Sounds like something off blue record. Love both bands
Except this has a good mix 😅
this mix is not very good :( definitely some highlights on the album though
still way better than baroness gold album though
@@ninjax9675 this mix is amazing lol
@@Tdrummer888 it's grown on me heavily as of late. i still don't like the mix very much on some songs, but it's great on others
Esse refrão vai no fundo da minha alma, que presentaço de aniversário!!! Obrigado, Mastodon
mastodon goes necrophagist
Baroness vibes… 👌🏽 vury naice
I have had tears in my eyes since the first track, unbelievably great album.
@AutomaticWriting people still use "lol"? Get with the times, old geezer 😱😱
this is what we can call ... a masterpiece !!! And it's my Christmas Gift from my love wife ^^
You have a good love wife.
Beautiful.
Amazing!
🤘 *chef's kiss* 😗👌
New favorite song. Well done!
This song is so prog , it screams
DAMN YOU GUYS! Come on! No Chicago stop on the Mastodon/Opeth tour? WHAT THE FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU
Starts with a cool Megadeth-esque intro, then jumps into some Baroness riffage and choruses.
Nope
Odd comparisons… The riff at 3 minutes reminds me of Summer Nights by Van Halen.
One of the best album songs!!
How can you not like this song? Killer with no filler. Awesome contributions by everyone in the band on this track. I appreciate that even more and think Mastodon are at their best when everyone is involved vocal-wise.
Waiting for Kelliher to tear into some Johnny Cash style baritone...
Does Bill sing/do any kind of vocals at all?
@@robinhannon3488 he sings backup sometimes, I was watching a concert vid last night where he was definitely singing the chorus to pushing tides i wanna say...but i couldn't pick out his voice so who knows what he sounds like
@@Oberin271 but any vocals on albums? Live is different.
Yeah. My apologies. I meant when Brent, Brann, and Troy are all involved. Bill just brings the riffage and that's cool with me.
What a great song.The changes.
There is sooooo much Van Halen riffery happening in this tune! This is my favorite tune on the new album.
Exactly my thoughts. Eddie Van Halen riff.
I beat you to it, but, yes, I was waiting for someone else to call it out too.
I was picking up an Eddie Van Halen vide too. Great stuff.
One of favourite 🔥
What a banger
This album is riddled with ridiculously good guitar solos.
You can so much feel the Leviatan vibe in this fabulous intro! Great album
thw whole middle is incredible the drumming and brans vocals incredible
INCREDIBLE !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The song has so much emotional that I pulls!
Just a gateway to all kinds of music really
On another level 👨🚀🚀🌌
Amazing song god damn
Mastodon reaching perfection
YES
Holy shit this is badass! its just pure fucking Prog rock awesomeness! its a fucking journey!
Mastodon MAYHEM!!
great song
There's many people calling this album boring lol...Listen to it properly!!!!!
How do you listen properly
@@Mari000 receptive to creativity and to a "non cliché" music.
@@sivadepilif yea I’m receptive. I just don’t like it. It gets boring.
dammnnnnnnn!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Man, they gave us 51s of a fucking insane riff intro, are u kidding me??? This is nasty shit, i cant think how to not love this song.
Such refinement...
I could listen to that opening riff on repeat.
reminds me of dream theater nice!
Thank you...made me choke up. Fuck thank you. Peace and tranquility. My heart warms n saddens with pain and pleasure.
Masto fucking DON. Top fucking notch
Come to Brazil!!!!
that solo is so aghhhhhhhhhhhhhhaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa amazing
Holyshit this new album is somethin else...Just in this 6 minutes they change vibes like 10 times :D amazing
Best song on the disc.
Very uplifting
Troys best vocal work
Man, this song reminds me of Rust in Peace, in the best way possible, well the opening riff anyway, lol.
