Derrick Henry isn’t even really a conventional power back, he doesn’t focus on breaking tackles or taking hits. He’s so tall and fast that he just abuses that stiff arm reach to set angles on the second level. He’s a smart runner. Fournette is a beast too but he’s kinda become a power back in the nfl and an ungodly blocker and check down option .
Yeah it took Henry a while to realize he could just run through ppl cause in hs and college he would always just hit a corner and outrun everybody.
Yes but when u r tall long legs its more difficult to break tackles , long legs need space for power and in general less explosive in shorter effort, but side runs is another story long legs long arms big stiff arm
@@mcchoco1019 oh yea brother. Im 6'3" and played tail back in a veer in high school. If it was inside the tackles I crouched and chopped my feet to just try and push the pile. But if it was outside or I saw a gap I would "get on my horse" which meant to run fully upright and sprint. Blew my acl on the weakest hit down the sideline. if you are tall and fast you should try and play DEnd, running back is too risky

@SuperSavage to be fair, I think you could say that of most backs . So I feel that it's a moot point because the Bengals D was getting great penetration. Unless you're Barry Sanders , the line in front of you dictates how well your running back play will be.

He isn't really a power runner as in a mf that's trying to truck everyone in his way within a 10 mile radius. He plays like a running back and tries to avoid defenders most of the time. Defenders do get scared af meeting him in open space and have to make a business decision aka go for his legs. Few square him up.
