Lyrics are not what usually attracts me to a song, but in this case, the lyrics are _EVERYTHING._ , not that the music is bad. It's just that the lyrics are _SO_ good, that it overshadows the music. I love songs like "YYZ", "Frankenstein" and "Hocus Pocus", all of which have _NO_ lyrics, so that tells you how little lyrics matter to me. but when a song comes along that has lyrics as good as this one, it's rare and I love it.

One of my favorite songs because of the message of the lyrics. Empathy is a virtue that too many have tuned out. We are all just a few bad breaks away from being on the street, or being trapped in some other seemingly hopeless situation. That person we revile could be us one day.

FYI- "What It's Like" is a song by American musician Everlast. It was released in July 1998 as the lead single from his second studio album.
The song peaked at number one on the US Billboard Mainstream Rock chart for one week and on the Modern Rock Tracks chart for nine weeks. It also reached number 13 on the Billboard Hot 100, becoming the singer's only solo top-40 hit on the US chart.[6] Outside the United States, the song reached number four in Iceland, number six in Canada, and the top 40 in Australia, Austria, Germany, New Zealand, Switzerland, and the United Kingdom.

You should never judge somebody until you walk a mile in their shoes... then when you do judge them, you're a mile away. And you have their shoes.
Seriously though, unless you know the path somebody has walked, you have no right to judge them.

And hate them. I think he's ignorant because. In the end, you make the call. And jealousy's not love. If he really loved you. He'd be happy for you. It sounds like he doesn't really care how you feel. Just a user You get tons of compliments. And I do it too. But I'll always be straight with you. But real.

Wow. That took me back. Been a long time since I heard that one. I actually had to look him up to remind myself. That's the dude from House Of Pain. So, excuse me if I'm a little off, but what I just found out was that he was around since the early days of the L.A. rap scene, but his only two big successes were kind of short lived, and you could maybe even call one hit wonders.
First was House Of Pain, which was a 90s rap group of three guys that were like some of the earliest well known white rappers. They portrayed themselves as like these Irish-American guys from Boston, but I just found out that they were all from LA, and one of them was even Latvian. Home boy here I think is from the Valley! Their song "Jump Around" was a huge hit though! A very iconic 90s rap/hip hop song! You might already know it, but if you don't, you should definitely react to it! Sorry, but for that song, I do highly recommend the official music video.
Then, I guess he went out on his own, and this song was a hit, but I kind of think that was it. I mean, I'm sure he's still around doing something, but he's older than me, and who would know?

  • @Oduunich

Everlast is very deliberate with all his lyrics. whether its about addiction (painkillers), romantic loss (Love for Real), or faith (Graves to Dig). His song Ends from this same album follows a similar blueprint, following a different character through three verses.

    Everlast - What it's Like:
album Whitey Ford Sings the Blues
    Released September 8, 1998
I always felt a connection to this song!
Every issue address in this song created in 1997 / 1998 is much more intense today in 2024.
The problem with our society is people have been abused so bad mentally, verbally, physiologically, sexual abuse they have been struck down with PTSD.
Homeless people and members of generation Z complain about harassment, retaliations, discrimination, hostile work environment, violation close door policies, constructive termination, forced resignations, wrongful termination at workplace, they do not want to get a job anymore, that is classic PTSD!
I blame it all on the corrupt failed policies of Baby Boomers generations!

Hello Bisscute, interesting song that you reacted to on this occasion, I thought the way he composed it was original, in which basically each verse represents a different story of a person who faces personal and social challenges, and how these situations affect their lives and those of those around them, addressing issues of poverty, addiction, teenage pregnancy and racial discrimination, for example, all with a great sense of empathy. I didn't know the song or the singer, there is always something interesting to know every day, like this time, thanks to you. For a next reaction I would like to suggest the band Zoé, with the song Labios rotos. Greetings and a hug from Mexico City.

I love your passion for wanting to help the homeless. As someone who has been homeless at one point in my life, the ONE thing you need to understand is that all who are homeless want to be helped or feel like they can be redeemed as a human. It's a hard way to live and often times they are there by choice. Yes, they need companion which is the one thing most people will not give anyone that is Homeless.
