- Designer Charlie Coull helped a young couple transform their dated home into a modern oasis. See how they preserved the home’s original Tudor-style features, like the historic staircase and cast stone mantel. You’ll love how they infused classic features throughout, like the white and grey checkerboard floors in the foyer, retro patterned floor tile in the kitchen and a vintage-style chandelier in the living room. Meanwhile, modern updates like custom arched built-ins in the living room, a gorgeous kitchen banquette and built-in coffee and bar stations are perfect for entertaining.

She’s right the exterior is stunning! This is how you customize a home without sacrificing it’s charm. They kept all the right architectural details and it truly paid off. Everything is perfect
WOW. The just brought the home up to date. Still feels classic and timeless
Beautiful transformation. Glad you kept the staircase.
Stunning. I would move in in a heartbeat. I need this entire house on my Pinterest board.
I love that the owner loves to read so there's 20 staged designer books on the shelving.lol
Haha I noticed that too 😂
I was going to say the exact same thing. Those are not the bookshelves of a reader
This is amazing, one of my favorite exterior styles but they are always so dark and cold like a dungeon on the inside. This is great
Everything is both beautiful and functional. The indoor, close to the outdoors, dining room and bar is awesome.
Finally someone who's not bashing the previous condition of the home
Definitely a beautiful home. I just feel that the living room walls would have been nicer with some color or at least some colorful artwork.
I agree. Maybe some drapery panels would have helped.
Designers at times, leave walls bare so the homeowners can fill the space over time.
Absolutely stunning spaces, wonderful transformation.
really good update & renovation, the layout is excellent!
Great job! Bravo! Lovely result, nice that you went on and made some of the banquette cushions twins with the kitchen floor 😄😄👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽🤩👌🏽✨
A truly stunning home. Strategically executed and designed! 🙌🏻
U guys never disappoint... What a beautiful home, love every inch...👌👍
Beautifully executed. Gorgeous home.
It's a beautiful home.. loved the entrance and living room
Absolutely lovely and relaxed. Great video!!!
WOW~~ awesome work! this house got amazing!
All that entrance needed was wooden flooring, the rest was gorgeous as it was imo
Gorgeous and beautiful! Looks like some fabulous homes in Elkins Park Pa.
STUNNING🤩 Thanks for sharing👏🏽
So beautifully done!
Beautiful home and beautifully transformed.
It’s gorgeous! Feels very welcoming!
Hmm The only thing I like in this home is the kitchen tiled floor. It is a very cold house to me.
Livingroom ist so beautiful i love the green couch❤👍
Professional designs for Heritage horns upgrade homes with flooring and detailed costumed built inns. Beautiful classic brick wall in the dinning area. GREAT PROJECT.
Bet this house had typical Tudor warmth and charm. Now, it has the personality of a hospital ward.
Agreed. I'm so tired of white everything!
Its so Disgusting. No warmth....does she not realize that gray isn't a warm color. It's a cool tone color. 🙈 they obviously only wanted a historical home for clout and ruined it to make it IG worthy.
The warmth is definitely missing…way too much white…the entryway, kitchen, the new ‘tv room’…too much white…there are better ways to update the Tudor style…
@@kellilangvo You can say that again-yuck!
Gorgeous makeover!!! 👏☺️
Really beautiful!
Very nice! Your renovation was beautifully done! Wish, I seen the pool area!
Beautifully done!!
Absolutely beautiful 🤩
Beautiful home.
Every single room is beautiful. Thanks for sharing. Love you go up and down the two staircase. 👍🥰

A lot of books? You have to be kidding!!
Great Reno 💓
Maravilhosa esta casa!! Parabéns 🍀🌸🌼😊
So beautiful.....perfectly perfect.....💗
Absolutely stunning! That corner fireplace though...😞
excellent taste.Congratulations
Beautiful home, modern... I love it.
Beautiful!!!!
I know my friends would love to eat in that dining room, especially in the
evening😊
Beautiful! It seems so much more functional. I do wonder, as a fellow reader, where are the lamps?
Could’ve removed them for the photoshoot. Alternatively, the rooms have lighting so perhaps no need.
beautiful!
Gorgeous.
Beautiful
Love it!❤
Lovely and clam
I love this interior design....but I would rather use sage green on the kitchen cabinets instead of grey. I do love the tiled kitchen floor.
super job!
My favorite type of home is a Tudor ❤️
I didn't like what they did with the dining room.
Agree! Many of the changes, while they look nice, are faddish. In 20-25 years, I would be at all surprised if they will undo what they have done now.
It's so important to have that client trust & their complete confidence in you to deliver just what they want; if they hold the reins too tightly during the process, the magic you can work as a designer becomes quite restricted, and when those limitations are evident in the end result, the client often puts it down to the designer making poor choices!
I understand some clients not wanting to give complete free rein, as these designs and implementing them can be extremely costly; but I think growing a well established design business where you have built a name for delivering _above and beyond_ your client's greatest wishes for their home is a very powerful thing, because it provides new clients with assurance of quality and allows them to see for themselves that it's in their best interests to fully rely on your expertise, and in some cases, to take risks and go beyond their comfort zone in order to achieve truly outstanding results.
It's a great responsibility however, once the designer has gained a client's trust. I love how this designer pays attention to what many would perhaps call 'smaller details', such as incorporating the bar for entertaining, and taking note of the client's love of reading; to employ little details in certain rooms of the house which support and encourage the enjoyment of the client's hobbies is something that has the potential to bring a smile to them on countless occasions as they use the space. Thinking outside the box when designing spaces doesn't always mean spending more money or time, but it has the ability to bring a big impact to everyday life!
This is probably my idea dream home.
Love it all
Lovely
Designers need to learn to respect the character of a home instead of copy-and-pasting whatever the current trends are into a space. I was happy to see the designer did this, even if only in some places. The wood shiplap to "warm it up" in the dining room was a missed opportunity since English wood paneling is a trademark of this architectural style. The modern white kitchen looks nice but feels out of place. This kitchen should have been more traditional to match the character of the home. Instead of a modern island put a rustic wood table for prep work. Hang copper cookware, use exposed plate racks, and a French gas stove would look less dated in a decade and feel like it's always been there. It's possible to respect the Tudor style while also making it beautiful, functional, and contemporary. Why do many people act like it's not? I appreciate the good choices the designer has made, but I think there were some missed opportunities.
Completely agree. Was excited to see this video but was so underwhelmed by the outcome. Such a missed opportunity as you say. I was expecting a modernised take on Arts and Crafts/Tudor revival, maybe some antiques layered in with more contemporary pieces, some traditional warm woods, fabrics or finishes used in new ways, perhaps some pieces crafted by modern artisans, but it was just a mismash of 2010s interior design trends.
A lot of the furniture and decor feels charmless and mass produced - the complete antithesis of the Arts and Crafts design philosophy. Some other baffling choices too. Can't believe thay removed wood panelling and put in a shiplap fireplace. Why are the checkerboard tiles in the hallway so large? Completely out of scale with the size of the space. And the less said about the dining room the better. The kitchen has some nice touches but doesn't really fit the style of the home.
I get the impression it was redone by people with no particular fondness for, or interest in, the orignal style of the home. If they love their home, good for them, but I think the video is dramatically overselling the design.
As designers we also have to respect our clients. It was tastefully done.
Agreed. Clear unstained English oak paneling would have been perfect as it’s bright but fits w the home. I’m sure the clients want what they want but yes a missed opportunity.
It’s not an art piece in a gallery they updated everything because people live in it and want to enjoy modern amenities in the comfort of their own home
@@PenguinTac0s that's exactly the nonsense I'm talking about. This idea that only a white kitchen, waterfall island, or shiplap is "functional" is wrong. Let's stop the lazy trend following and actually create something that won't look obviously dated in 10 years.
What's the name of the Collor of the cabinets? That off gray one is gorgeous
Looks like a Studio McGee flip. Blehhh. Painting over all that original woodwork is so sad to see happen. It now lacks warmth inside that you get from the outside. Had they left more of the original wood unpainted this home would have a completely different feel.
Stunning!
The “eating area” had the most gorgeous chairs! 😍Why did they get rid of them? 😩
The “young” couple wanted a mid century modern home! What they did not want was a proper English cottage in the countryside. So viewers that’s why you got this type of interior because this couple just wanted a standard normal American style home and I feel they only bought this home cuz they thought it looked grand on the outside! If you want and love traditional real authentic English cottages then go to Pinterest and Instagram cuz there’s tons of users who have these beautifully old cottages who are actually living in England Wales Scotland Ireland which I feel are the only places where you can buy and live in a proper cottage! In America, we are just not known for cottage homes not like the UK! From their chocolate boxes to their thatched roof cottages, they are the only ones who know how to decorate and style a cottage home no matter if it’s Victorian or Georgian they know about mixing the old with the new and they create thee most stunningly cosy interiors!
This is called showcasing a lot of books?
That decor looks like it came from Target.
A traditional home with an updated flair. I noticed that the brick work wasn't patched up.
🤩🤩🤩
How much do these renovations cost??
Fab
Come to the UK and see a real Tudor house - it will open your eyes! Nothing about this house is remotely ‘Tudor’!
Not Fabulous... something got lost in the interior renovation!
Hate the hassocks. Great that they removed the soffits in the kitchen. They were horrible.
Overall pretty nice.
I think the walls are a tad too white. The original design was dated with the carpet but at least the walls were a warm white. It'd be nice to just change the floor to hardwood floors. The whole house is too white and bland tbh.
Why do the before photos always look darker?
Before photos are always unedited, after photos always have their brightness ramped up
🤩🤩👍🏻
The previous home was really ugly by todays standards yet the narrator/designer was very gracious about it in her commentary.
From the photos shown, the kitchen makes absolutely no sense. Overall, the house shown here is uninspired.
This Reno missed most of the important elements of the home. You can update and create a newer feel while being respectful of the home. Many British designers do it perfectly. The tile in the front hall is awful. The former dining room with a shiplap corner fireplace is straight out of the 70’s. The kitchen with bistro shelves look very cheap. Most of the soft furniture looks very inexpensive, a few antiques layered in each room along with modern B&B style sofa’s would have created a much more sophisticated update.
I don’t agree! I think it was very well executed!
Agree 100%. This looks like someone ripped pages out of a cheap modern magazine and said I want my house to be vlog worthy. Make me IG famous but not actually interesting. 😩
The previous owner was no better than the current owner in understanding the beauty of a Tudor revival home of this stature. The interiors are still a hideous blend of trendy boxes, filled with dated, off the shelf, nonsense. The interiors would be perfect for a new build in a condominium complex off the Interstate in a soulless development where builders ply buyers with new, clean, contemporary, cookie cutter model homes for perfect little wives and husbands to live perfectly boring, and thoughtless lives.
Awful. So disappointed in designers who can't do anything but white and gray. None of this inside speaks Tudor history. It's basic trendy and cheap looking. Jarring to go from that exquisite exterior to that ultra modern inside. Designers need to take some history classes and respect historical homes.
I find the overall feel of the renovated interior is cold - sorry, it's a lovely home but.........
I truly like the before pictures. White bland and boring!
I don’t know, the interior looks disjointed. It doesn’t seem to know what it wants to be.
Love everything but the floor tile in kitchen and small bath, not complimentary to a Tudor home style, more farm house
The finishes are disappointing in the extreme.
Beautiful home, but the white walls are awful. It doesn't work with the character of the home, and doesn't feel cohesive. Also the artwork is very oddly placed.
Everything is beautiful...But ...don't like the brickwall in the dinning room nor that the bar was painted black .The vricks takes away the elegance and the black bar is too dark.
Wouldn’t be able to tell it was a Tudor style home from the inside, lacks a lot of essential elements(paneling, chair rails, architraves) usually stain grade, disappointing
Nope to all of it.
So sad to see this happen to an old house. From what I can see, it has never been done appropriately. The before photos are just a heinous as the after pictures! A travesty to behold!
Nice show with my ashy a$$ knuckles. I gots to be more careful (polished) next time.
I didn't like anything inside, beautiful outside.
It’s a shame everything inside is white. Boring. Lacks style and taste.
Beautiful but very generic and a bit boring...
I don't know about this one. It seems like the house has lost its charm somehow. They make everything new and become generic like any other houses today.
The all white inside..hideous.
