I worked really, really hard this past month on the latest episode in Modern Conflicts dealing with the terrible civil war in Yemen. It also marks the 20th episode I have published in this series, with more than 7 hours of additional combined content on other 21st-century conflicts. The best way to watch them is through the CuriosityStream/Nebula bundle deal, and they're currently running an amazing holiday sale that makes it just $11.59 for the entire year to both sites here: curiositystream.com/?coupon=reallifelore

As a UK resident, I knew about them owning Harrods but I had no idea how deeply invested the wealthy Qataris in London, especially Canary Wharf's buildings where most investment banks are situated, & Heathrow Airport. Love the presentation of the data, and the use of maps to help me understand the geopolitical aspect better!
Qatar owned almost the entire city of Paris also, since the GVT made a deal with them to reducr taxes in their investisments in France, France also played a huge role in the attribution of the WC 2022 bc of their influence.
They are propping up your economy. Say thank you. And stop the never ending racist diatribe against them.
This explains all those pesky Qatari cash payments the royal family keeps finding whenever somebody audits them. “Oh dear! Another hundred thousand pounds! Whereever did that come from?“

Bro Saudi Arab owns pretty much everything or has stakes in London.
I’m qatari and honestly this is the first time I’ve ever seen anybody actually make a video about our country, let alone research and go out of their way to talk about it. most people didn’t even know we existed until the World Cup. thank you

@@davidesangiorgi955well we obviously know why 🤷♂️🤷♂️
Everyone knew of Qatar before the World Cup 😂
I lived in Qatar for about 18 months and loved it. Some good things and bad things as with any country. I noticed they catered more to the British versus the US. My title had Analyst in it and since I wasn't an engineer, I could not get a driver's license, which was old, since I had a Kuwaiti driver's license and could drive in Bahrain Dubai. The traffic was horrible, but then again, so was Bahrain, Kuwait, Dubai and most places I've been. They have been getting ready for the world cup for years and have been adding highways and a new (well not new now) airport, which I thought was state of the art. Dubai did the same, their airports make our airport look like a ghetto, just my opinion. Just another word, both Qatar and Dubai have a good Iranian and Russian population. I never had any issues but it is always good to know.
@@maddogbasilyeah they were crying for nothing and even with app hate , Qatar pulled off the best and the safest world cup , yet alone cheapest
I lived there during the 80s and early 90s (Until the first Gulf War), I was around 14yrs old. There were no skyscrapers then. The tallest building was the National Bank (4-6 stories, I honestly can't remember), the only Supermarket was aptly named "The Center" and it was pretty modern even then. The kiosk in the car park served the best lamb kebabs that I have ever had in my life, (I can still taste them if I close my eyes). The Falcon Club was just over the road from where I lived, and it's where I spent most of my time. It's all gone now, and replaced by sky scrapers and sports stadiums. Even as a Brit, they were some of the best times of my life. My friend (who had a wooden miniramp in his front garden) and I must have been the only skateboarders in the whole country, or so we thought until we bumped into a bunch of Norwegian kids one day who had built their own quarter pipe in their school yard. Good times.
The centre and the kiosk is still here :)

The amount of work that went into putting this video together is truly impressive.
I enjoyed the video too but I am disappointed he mentioned the newspaper that said 6500 people died in construction. It has been confirmed, that number is the total number of worker deaths, which means due to the virus, health issues, etc. The actual number of work related deaths is around 450. Which is 450 too many. But I get angry seeing media lie about things like this and then everyone believes them straight away.
If what you're saying is true, that is indeed a shame. I'm guessing (hoping) any such errors were made because they themselves got bad information and there was nothing malicious or intentional behind it. I wonder what the possibilities are for correcting any such errors after the video has been published.

just wow! the amount of work that you people did. Hats off! amazing video.
Great video. I lived in Qatar as a contractor working at Al Udeid. It's amazing to think it was a seasonally inhabited backwater where people would make a living diving for pearls off coast, compared to what it is now. There's a museum in Doha that shows the growth of that city, and even as recently as 1960, it was just a village.
I was deployed to Al Udeid for a year while in the army back in 2014-2015. I remember seeing the football stadium being built next to the mall. It was such a surreal feeling, going from straight deserted areas to downtown Doha where they had all these expensive buildings with little to no tenants. Even back then I remember hearing about all of the heat casualties dying from being overworked outside. The temperatures out there were no joke, 115-120 degrees wasn't uncommon during the summer months. I could go on about my experiences there forever.

Jesus Christ is the propitiation for the whole world's sins. They that believeth and are baptized (with the Holy Spirit) shall be saved; but they that believeth not shall be damned. Those led by the Holy Spirit do not abide in wickedness.
*God is ONE manifesting himself as THREE;* the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit! Bless him! *For these three are one.*
As I am led by the Holy Spirit, nothing I state is a lie, but the truth of God. Anyone who tells you differently is misinformed or a liar. They do not know God, nor led by him.
Anyone who *claims* to be a Christian and is against what I am doing, and where I am doing it; the Holy Spirit does not dwell within them, they lack understanding. They know not God, read his word, and their religion is in vain. Do not hear them, they will mislead you, the lost cannot guide the lost.
When you trust in God and cast your cares (worries, anxiety, depression, suicidal thoughts) upon him, they will be NO MORE!
Know that there is power in the name Jesus Christ! His name casts out demons and heals!
The world is wicked, evil, and of the devil.
I too, was a wicked sinner of the world before I opened my heart to God. I am living proof of God's work and fruitfulness! He is an active God who hears the prayers of his! God's children are set apart (holy) and righteous. The devil is a liar that comes to steal, to kill, and to destroy; that includes your relationship with God!
Open your heart to God, repent of your sins (he will forgive you), and let him direct your path. Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you. Cleanse your hands and purify your heart, lest you walk with the devil and follow him to hell.

Great video! I feel so much smarter after I watch your channel. It’s like I’ve heard of things in a general sense, but then I watch a video from you, and it all suddenly starts fitting together in a big picture way. Thank you!
Watch out this channel is biased.
@@skp8748 in what area would you say the bias is worst? Being neutral in the absolute sense is extremely tough in this day and age, considering how the internet is out phasing authoritative news sources rapidly.
@@megalonoobiacinc4863 I watch and consume information from a variety of sources but being aware of their biases is important.
Real Life Lore NEVER criticises American exceptionalism, the EU or generally any supranational organisations like IMF, UN, WTO, NATO or world bank or even highlights their role in issues that it discusses.
It would be too reductive to call it sinophobic or anti russian... But I would certainly say it is ADAMANTLY anti multi polarity.
It's not the only channel that I've noticed this from... Johnny harris who's videos I enjoy also had the same slant but I chalked it up to his previous employment at NATO but it turns out the WEF was funding his videos.
Most news sources usually have a political or national bias (BBC, AL JAZEERA, CNN, FOX ECT) but these CZcams channels operate across borders and different political realities so what slant could be present? A global one.
Just write China on CZcams, or Turkey... And you'll see several videos denigrating those govts, foreign policy ect all uploaded within weeks of eachother nothing by these channels on Moldova, Bolivia or other diplomatically inert nations.
I'm not saying theyre given scripts ect but wendover, real-life lore, Simon's whistler ect have several channels which they upload twice a week on each... That's like 2 TV shows a week... Editing, script writing, research and filming across multiple topics for a global audience... That requires funding and funders expect a certain standard.
Just watch out! Even TLDR which is a channel I really love held an EU line of not criticising Frances Africa policy.... They instead focused on the Italian prime minister being a racist.
We know the Italian pm is a facist but she broke EU protocol and publicly stated Frances neocolonial practises in Africa were enriching France but causing misery in Africa and nations like Italy to take on thousands of economic migrants.
@@skp8748 i think i get the jist of it
IMO its not necessary for him to focus too much on the supranational actors in the world because #1 there's already a TON of channels that do this, and people in general are fairly suspicious of organizations like the WTO and IMF, and #2 it quickly devolves into guesswork and witch hunting because of the many unknowns, and strong feelings many have for these institutions. The UN, WHO and the likes have also been shown to be either ineffective or corrupted in its mission by ill meaning members (think China during the covid outbreak, or Russia during most conflicts happening near its border, like Syria or now Ukraine). My point being this isn't necessarily the most productive target for RLL (and the team) to place their crosshair on.
These guys are also producing an entire series on Nebula, so without explaining away the economic question entirely you could see this youtube channel as a part of a larger whole, which in turn allows them polish and research topics a lot more effectively than if it was just a small, one-man channel on youtube.
You actually see these nebula commercials on a lot of tubers, so there might be some common resources they all pull on as a part of the deal.
Considering RLL always finish of with his 'nebula bait' in the end, I'd this makes little sense for propaganda reasons, the more who watches it, the more will buy our narrative! However it makes more sense from a money perspective.

Incredibly informative.
Would be cool to explore this concept with genuinely tiny countries - those having only a few thousand inhabitants, rather than a few million. Monaco and the Cayman Islands for instance have only around 30,000 people and yet both have a huge impact on the world by being semi-legal banks for the powerful.
Tokelau, a tiny nation of only hundreds of people in the Pacific that literally no one has heard of, manages to own more internet domain names than the ENTIRE country of China.
Gibraltar has even less but is the only 'country' that can fit its entire population in underground cave networks to survive years of siege, and nowhere in the world has endured even half as many sieges as Gibraltar - especially considering that not a single siege actually managed to take it since it was properly founded by the UK.
While Caymans and Gibraltar are technically colonies, they are self-governing and have unique cultural identities and so it is not much of a stretch. In fact doing a series on colonies would be awesome to see too!

Might want to mention that Al Jazeera originally started out as the BBC in Qatar. SA wanted to shut it down for its coverage, which they succeded in, just for most of their employees to form AJ and basically do the same thing under a new name
Saudi Arabia, UAE bullying Qatar is the reason why they got the World cup.
Now Saudi can't invade it... We all know and consciously recognise it's sovereignty.
200billion well spent imho population dictates that they could never militarily compete with ANY of its neighbours so how else to protect their nation and resources?
Build and maintain a HUGE military for the US army and don't charge them a penny. But 10s of BILLIONS of us military equipment and employs thousands of ex military personnel to guarantee US protection. Invite the Turkish military to also have a base and offer them financial support for their shoddy economy to have the regional military leader on your side.
But even this wasn't enough Saudi could still invade and smooth things over later with Turkey and the US. So hence the pivot to soft power... Al Jazeera, Qatar Airways, PSG and the WC.
That explains a lot about both of these media lol

This has become one of my favorite channels to listen to while at work 😎
so you work for 30 mins 1 time / week ?
@@svtzzz you’re ignorant 🤦🏼♂️
@@svtzzz Who says that they only watch one video?
I’ve been there, they have beautiful lights that are different colors that line the highway… it’s beautiful
So much appreciation for covering the crisis of Yemen!
8:25 Algeria is now called the Netherlands apparently 🤣
Lol
Qatar's 2022 World Cup construction was as deadly as 9/11 two times over.
Love nineeleven.
Worked and lived in Qatar from 2008 to 2010. The construction of an aluminium smelter with its associated power plant was another way for Qatar to diversify their economy.
What kind of power plant
The ukraine conflict increasing demand for Qatars exports blew my mind, it always fascinates me how much things affect eachother on the geopolitical level
Legend. Making a well detailed and researched about a super power rise into the world stage while also letting us know the darker side as well instead of the roses and peach side only. 10/10
Man I'm so mad this comment got 4 likes while the sex bot who literally copied your comment got 313 just because they liked their comment with their other bots so it got noticed faster than yours did. Hopefully yt does smth about these bots soon.
I love your videos!..❤
As a person who lives in qatar but is not form qatar I absolutely agree with this as I have researched loads about qatar before
One of the most interesting and informative videos Ive seen recently
In regards to Al Jazeera's coverage of the Bahraini uprising, it wasn't actually all that generous. Only the English version covered the uprising. The Arabic coverage, the coverage that mattered most, not so much. Despite being banned in Egypt, Al Jazeera went to great lengths to provide non-stop live coverage of events. That wasn't the case in Bahrain. In fact, some staff actually LEFT their Beirut office because of their coverage, like how they refused to show violence in Bahrain. They also avoided inviting critics of the Bahraini regime on-air.
Egyptian media on the other hand has criticized Al Jazeera for refusing to show protests in Qatar over a controversial electoral law that limited the voting rights of a Bedouin tribe back in 2021
But @ least Al Jazeera's English-language TV network isn't Russian state TV (be it RT or a much larger VGTRK), the ex-Soviet republic's state-run TV channels' having been known to report anti-Western propaganda to try to justify an illegal invasion of Ukraine. The there's also the influence small Qatar has, with the Arab country having, after the Russian invasion of Ukraine, likely more influence than Russia. An early-March vote in the UN General Assembly featured, among member states, only Russia, Belarus, Syria, North Korea and Eritrea having voted against a resolution that'd called for the ful withdrawal of Russian troops from Ukraine. Among majority Muslim member states, Mauritania, Tunisia, Libya, Egypt, Jordan, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Qatar, Bahrain, Afghanistan, Djibouti, Malaysia, Indonesia and Brunei all voted to urge the Putin Administration to withdraw ALL Russian troops from Ukraine.
Interesting, did not know that
Bedouin ? you mean literally all native arabs ?? LOL
@@ab_sami they said "a" tribe
LOL, goes to show you, none of those 'news' outlets in the GULF give a flying shit about actually reporting unbiased, research based, objective NEWS, they just want to peddle propaganda, narratives and its all sinfully censored and controlled by the state. Its pathetic, all of it. No better than any of the sensationalized bullshit news outlets in the west that do the same thing; no objective, honest, investigative journalism to speak of 🤣
It's amazing to see how a small country like Qatar can have such a significant impact on the world.
I love this channel
Thank you for shedding light on yemens situation a lot of people like to stray from the truth or only talk about stuff that’s trending
Bravo!! This was an absolutely fantastic video. Well done.
Their willingness to grow and diversify is incredible
