The bus may be worth trying to get running... depending on the floor rust and such. Those engines will survive a lot. First, try to turn it with a socket on the pully. If it is seized no sense in going any further... would be a cool hunting cabin!!!

Dutch you and Brandi heart is in the right place trying to help others out , but first..you need to see if the motor is locked up....I would say scrap it, it would be cheaper to purchase one from a school auction, by the time you invest in new parts, labor ... Sorry but it's not worth it .. use the scrap money for the purchase of another one. You have your camper at the house ...there you go it would be perfect for that spot... New camper ...could be used for hunting, renting out etc.... But I would remove the old bus and camper from the property...just my opinion...

I’m thinking the same thing about that bus.. junk it! Would cost too much and take a lot of your time. Got to finish the house first and move into it before getting this new place in shape. Is there a septic system or a tank somewhere? The mystery is interesting and draws thoughts and desires to discover. Amazing how people just leave old stuff out leaning on a tree..old car door, bikes, old tin. All kinds of wildlife might use those caves for shelter. Coyotes, raccoons, bears, snakes,.. could even have treasure hid in there… long ago gangs in OK, TX, etc had hideouts.

    • @tmacmi9095

Totally agree! The rust on the bottom of the dipstick says it all: seized up engine block. Also I’m pretty sure the gas tank has been removed.

    • @eltomas3634
      @eltomas3634 Před rokem +6

You can't really go by the dipstick, they can corrode with condensation over time, it's common. See if you can turn the crankshaft either with a socket on the pulley bolt or possibly by pulling and turning on the fan blade and belts. Any movement in either direction is a good sign. It's also a very good sign that all the engine parts seem to be where they are supposed to be and not missing or torn apart. You'd be very surprised how old engines can be given new life. Check out Vice Grip Garage on YT, he does it all the time, check his videos. All you need is to go from A to B one time.

Hi Dutch, the 'cave' rock formation looks sedimentary e.g. it was at some stage a bigger river than just a creek as it is now. Hard to tell without being able to see the full geomantary of the site but the layers suggest it was layed down over many many years.
if the sides are steep on either side, hard to tell on the camera shots, then more likely the case. Be very careful if so as this is mainly sand that has 'solidified' but if you have enough water run off (i could see water seeping) then this can erode/colapse quickly.

That car door sure looks like a door for a model T, you should check the area around it with a metal detector you might find other parts, I have found parts to them at various house sites. Being a retired motorcycle technician and machinist I would say it's worth the time and effort in trying to get it running. Below are examples of things that must be done to get it running.
    1) Check to see if the engine turns over, but first remove the spark plugs and put some Marvel Mystery Oil in each cylinder, then see if it will turn over by hand.
    2) That's some nasty looking oil. Flush the engine, replace the oil filter and fill with new oil.
    3) Install a new battery and do a compression and leak down test if you have the special tools and an air compressor. A gasoline engine needs a minimum of 100psi compression for it to start. Although there was a 1980 Suzuki GS750 I believe that I worked on that had been sitting for years that only had 85psi compression and 80% leak down and it took a minute or so to get it started having to use starter fluid. I believe there was a lot of carbon and rust build up on the valves and seats and adding the MMO and the starter fluid loosened it up and washed it away out the exhaust which raised the compression and lowered the leak down.
    4) Replace the spark plugs and plug & coil wires. Crank the engine and check for spark for all cylinders.
    5) Drain and clean the fuel tank and put a few gallons of fresh gas in it.
    6) Rebuild (clean) the carburetor(s) and replace any rubber fuel lines, fuel filter and test the fuel pump to see if it works and flush it. Replace the air filter.
    NOTE:
If it starts, it will smoke a lot until the MMO is completely burned away.
Dutch, if you decide to try and get the bus running and you read what I wrote, I hope my advise helps. For things that need lubrication, I recommend GIBBS penetrating lubricant. It even defies gravity. Easiest place to buy it is online. 🧓

Just have it towed to your home place and use it for storage or even a critter house for the chickens. I have one that is used for storage and its great. I also have feed cans and hay stores in there.

By that puddle you think was a mineral spot you missed a piece of metal.
Keep in mind those rock bluffs are perfect for copperhead and rattlesnakes.

Thanks for the new video. Will you be working on the new house soon? I really love those videos. I was wondering if because you purchased the Creek Property that you won't be able to finish the house. Because you said once that you were working on the New House as you received the money. Stay Safe and Take Care.

Won't know until you have it looked at. I hope it will be usable in whatever or wherever you decide it should be. I really like the stream. I think if it were mine, I would dig a couple areas to deepen them and give the fish some depth to grow and for safety also. Enjoy your projects, but be safe.

You should be able to find some arrowheads throughout those rocks around the creek. As a child, we had a creek behind our house, and I found arrowheads.

Put a game camera on a tree pointing toward those caves, and you can find out what lives in there. :)
You might get some ideas of what to do with that bus engine by watching Marty T. He finds old abandon machinery and gets it running. If there is no oil in it at all, then most likely it is beyond repair. Even very old abandon stuff usually still has old oil in it.

First step on the bus is to see if motor is stuck most likely is. But you can put some marvel mystery oil in the spark plug holes and let it sit for a couple weeks . I’d get a remote control truck and strap a go pro on it and run it through the caves 😁

  • @TheHotFlash80

I’d scrap the bus but take the windows out and use them to make a great green house , you’d have to build frames for them but they raise and lower and would make great greenhouse windows with built in ventilation ! Either at your house or split the windiest up and use on your new property and at your house!! Save the doors for the greenhouse!! God bless 🙏🙋🏻

OK Dutch, you would spend a lot less just buying a rebuilt engine for the bus. The black plastic looks like the trough of a bunk feeder. I bet your loving all the exploring.
    Blessing to you.
