Get why more recent players may not like it, but I love the return of models that don't have official kits. Was always a lot of fun seeing what people came up with to represent them and added a ton of hobby opportunities to armies.
If memoria serves Khalida used to boost archers up and I think that included Ushabti archers too. I hope she returns soon as Settra has.
I really liked her in Total War so now I got the box and hope she returns too
Yip used to make them poisoned asp weapons.
Kalida did give poison to a unit of archers in 8th but she couldn’t join a unit of Bowshabti due to different base sizes.
Tomb Guard Chariots... There's my first kitbash for Old World!
love the influence of MESBG on the Old World in the way they have split the rules out into a main army book plus additional books.
In MESBG there is one huge book with alllll of the main units of every faction. Then it has a few smaller expansion books, based on different areas of the narrative, for example: The War in Rohan. In that book there are more troop and hero options given for Rohan and Isenguard.
Beyond this they have even taken the amazing idea of Legendary Legions in the form of armies of infamy! in MESBG Legendary Legions limit what units and heroes you can take, but they offer specific bonuses to your army. the Legendary legions are made to represent actual groups from the narrative, like the rangers of ithillien and Gothmogs legion.
It's awesome to see ideas flow from system to system in a way that can only improve the game.
Monetary cult sounds fun honestly, i love monsters/behemoths and from what I've seen so far they seem really good in this version.
Apologies for posting different comments. That mixed melee + ranged unit would be amazing to see for Dogs of War IF they ever get re-released, specially regiments such as Pirazzo's lost legion or anything that resembles old like and shot style armies!
If you have a regular gaming group, just write your own rules and agree points in advance then chocs away
The Lost Legion had mixed loadouts in the TT. Crossbowmen in the front rank, pikemen in the back ranks.

What kind of saves do the named characters have? That was always the problem for me in 8th. TKs named characters had no armor and barely any ward compared to other factions named characters. Unit champs could punk your super expensive named characters.
Settra T5/W8? (Not sure maybe less), 4+,5++, 5+++ (regen but with flammable).
Emissary T5/W4 6+ 5+++ (regen but with flammable)
Arch necrotect w5 6+,5+++ (regen but with flammable)
Prince Apophad T5/W4 6+ 5+++ (regen but with flammable )(he may have a ward save not sure).
I ended up only getting the bretonnia box. I looked at the price on the TK box and said no way. That is too much in one go. The Bret box was too much too but... I only hate my wallet a little.

I like the idea of the Arcane Journals and I hope they do campaign books that are similar. Have a campaign with a bunch of scenarios and background then put in an army variant for each faction involved. I'd love a campaign based on the civil wars of Nehekhara between a young Nagash and other tomb kings; getting Nagash's/Arkhan more necromantic-focused army, Lahmia with vampires and so on. They should go full historical battle, and not tie themselves down at 300 years before the End Times.
I personally am going to make a fan publication of the City-State of Quatar ruled by High Priest Sehenesmet. It's an old 6th edition list held together by a special character who is a Liche Priest who entombed himself in a Bone Giant and leads an army of constructs as the sole survivor of Settra's wrath.
I think i'm just going to use ossiarch bonereaper stalkers as the venerable Ushabti.

The Bret one can but very specific units, Tomb Kings can't. I imagine it's down to theme

How many armies will the empire have? One for each elector?
Unless they redo most of the line, they are all under the Elector Count of Reikland, Karl Franz.
I wonder if they will allow The Empire to have cohorts? A block of spearmen flanked by 2 missile units, pike and shot style.
They allready do that, with the detachment rule.
And yes it is also in the old world books 😅

Yeah every army now have this setup potentially but the empire do it better with more support to make the most of these formations.

@jacobbjelgart1900 a whole bunch of stuff just got revealed on the Army lists that do not yet have models. They know that the Heirotitan was popular from Total War, and there are conversions all over the internet. People want this model. GW not putting it in the Army lists really implies heavily that they have no plans to make it whatsoever. That's my problem.

@robertgorgichuk2798 In a couple of years, we might get a Warscroll or the equivalent. In the meantime, I guess you can run your proxy as a Necrolith Colossus. Pay the points for a bow and just tell everybody that it shoots lasers from its eyes instead of an arrow. 🤣

The Journals are more of an expansion to the rules. You don't need them but if you wanna play with some fluffy different themed armies you do. Kinda like the system to be honest:)

Already got an idea for the paintscheme being turquoise and off-white. Turns out Lybaras got into the iron age so all the elites get fancy (only slightly rusted) iron weapons.

No Khalida. That makes my decision to go all in not worth it now. I have a feeling when they release her rules the Tomb Kings might get new sculpts for the archers. GW might even make a new box that let's you either make infantry or archers.
Man I wish I had your optimism.. When I saw they re-released 25 year old skeletons (the extra sprue for Tomb Kings don't count) I gave up hope that they'd actually put in any long-term effort to this and it not just being a cash-grab.
@ExileTwilight I hear you. I think GW underestimated the demand... again. They are never listening to the demands of their own community.
I'm sure if this release does extremely well, updates will come out. They pride themselves for their sculpts, those skeletons are an eye sore. Time will tell though.
Really don't like the unique units that are only available in the sub army list. I'm not going to spend time modeling and painting a unit that I can't take in every Tomb King army list.
This is the situation where i love buying and using 3d printed stuff. Cheap and you can get some really unique looking stand ins, which serve these "alt units" very well imo
The decisions here admittedly feel more arbitrary than the very reasonable exclusive units in the Bretonnia arcane journal, but regardless, you totally can take them if you field the respective army of infamy as an ally in your grand army.

The only new model I see is some kinda a bone dragon and a guy with a flail of skulls.
Good for new TK players who don’t have any models tho, I’m just starting one of these armies so I’m happy about it
@@AM-uw3gpyeah I agree. Fantasy players upset about not getting new models when they should be happy they’re gaining a ton of new blood. Boomers gonna boom
@@YTHandlesAreDumb well I’m 43 and just picking it up again after 20 odd years so not sure if that makes me a boomer, but I don’t get the negativity from some older players, it seems like a better game from battle reports I’ve seen so far and the mini’s are back in the store soon plus the community will nudge GW in the right direction to make more new sprues if it gains enough support from players both new and old
@@AM-uw3gp I'm excited about the game coming back, but I don't trust GW and several of their moves with Old World leaves a bad taste in my mouth. Biggest hint that they have no long-term plans for the game is the legacy armies and word that they are not going to release more for them. Them re-releasing 25 year old skeleton models that were bad when they got repackaged with an extra sprue for Tomb Kings is not a deal breaker, but it certainly doesn't make me want to buy more for three times the price.
This just makes me think that a tomb kings dlc is in the future.
I am pretty sure that there will be cross over between Warhammer old world and total war Warhammer 3 in some ways
