    When you showed the table top finish I thought yeah that's great for large armies and where I'd probably leave the rank and file for the most part.

    Eyecatching colour sceme, the units look good. This will be a great looking army with the ornate Tomb Guard, a Sphinx or two and some annimated constructs. I'm looking forward to being able to buy Tomb Kings again from GW, I can't afford to plunder the tomb treasury for the ransom prices online.
    I painted my skeletons with an agrax wash over base coat of vallejo bonewhite then soft over brush and layer up lighter tones. Yes its old style but its relaxing and theraputic, doesn't take me too long to finish units.

    • @MiniatureRealms
      @MiniatureRealms  Před 11 měsíci +1

      I have a few theories on why VC aren’t there at launch, they are just theories though.
      First off, the main reason we have limited factions is mostly down to resources, it’s a Specialist Design Studio game, so they just don’t have the numbers of people and budget the main studio does, it’s just not a main game anymore. We kind of have to accept it this way, or not have it at all. That will mean way more old minis than new, and a far slower churn than 40K/AOS as well.
      Also, while they know that there are a lot of crossover miniatures and factions with AOS, I expect that maintaining new AOS IP is more important, so the heavy focus is likely to be on factions that don’t have a place on AOS. TK & Brets had pretty much disappeared, they were probably the only two main factions (sorry chaos dwarfs) that didn’t get a place at all in AOS. That gives them a huge opportunity to focus on something that’s been ‘missing’ the longest. If I was a hard core VC player I’d be disappointed that they weren’t being covered with new rules to start (as I would for Liazards or Skaven), but I’d also recognise that they will have lists, but also amazing AOS ranges from which to build armies from, oddly in many cases way better and more modern that the armies that are there at launch for TOW.
      They’ve mentioned at launch that much of the initial focus will be around the Boarder Princes. Take a look at the names on the map, Harkon is on there, he’s the grand master of the blood dragons. Now knowing GW that doesn’t mean that VC will definitely be covered, but it not only gives VC players a cool theme to work from, but also hints at possible expansions in the future.
      Finally I think the plan is probably to bring in more of the ‘legacy’ factions later on. That will very much depend on sales of the first round, there’s some safety built into the business model there, it also makes the workload manageable for a small team. There was no way 1-2 writers could produce new army book level of release for all the armies at the end of 8th.
      I also think they will advance the storyline. In the old Warhammer this would have never happened, they even wiped the lord of Storm of Chaos, the only time it moved on was the end times, and there was an obvious reason for that. I think if it sell well, there will be future editions/campaign expansions, with more faction brought back, especially as we get closer to the chaos invasion, I’d imagine that’s the perfect narrative tool to bring more back.
      Sorry long answer, but I could hypothesise this for hours.

      And the two factions that they are starting with are two very beloved factions that actually ceased to exist at the change to AoS. This is a way to fight back against the creep of printing and get some relevance back on these factions.

    Great video, I will definitely be used a lot of these techniques as a beginner painter!
    I’m planning on basing in chaos black with a rattle can and the trying a 45 degree controlled wraithbone rattle can ‘zenithal’ highlight. After using skeletal horde as you have.
    Do you think this would work over dry brushing - I’m just thinking it would save time and I have the can already.
    Many thanks for any suggestions!

    • @MiniatureRealms
      @MiniatureRealms  Před 2 měsíci +1

      It’s definitely possible yes, but care will be needed. The cans can have too much power for the subtle effect that’s often needed for zenithal, so you end up having to keep the can too far away, and what happens then is the paint dries in the air before reaching the model, and it can cause a rough surface. Too close and you lose the effect. So it’s possible, but practice first to make sure you don’t mess it up.
      I think another option could be just to use Wraithbone, then drybrush white before following the rest of the steps. It will look different, but still good.

    Did you do anything to the pigment powder after you applied it to affix?

    • @MiniatureRealms
      @MiniatureRealms  Před 2 měsíci +1

      No, when it’s brushed into textures on a base it stays just fine, and sealing it would take away much of the dusty effect I’m after. I do fix pigment as well, but when I use it like this I’ve found it’s really not needed.

  • @christianwhite8411

    Lovely. Do you seal the pigment on the base or the model itself?

    • @MiniatureRealms
      @MiniatureRealms  Před 4 měsíci +1

      No not with this application, it completely changes the look. The pigment on the base is brushed into all the texture, I blow the excess off, you’d be surprised how well it stays. Similar with any in the shields, I blow the excess off, and it stains the surface. As long as you don’t get them wet you’re fine.

      It all depends on the era of miniature really, they’ve changed quite a lot over the years. When I printed Highlands Dwarves I did so at 88%, I felt 100% was way too big for my needs, but again it’s all about the context of the models they’re standing next to.
