- Way back in 2018, there was a randomizer made for Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door, and in the last video I checked it out! This time, I decided to try speedrunning it to see just how fast I could collect all 7 crystal stars...

A version with Shadow Queen fight being required (at any point during) would encourage both exploration and combat
That way it's not just reloading areas like you alluded to at the end.

I decided to give the randomizer a try cause I really love TTYD, my first run I ended up in the room in the Palace of Shadows with the two dry bones and the phantom ember, and got three crystal stars lol

Random, when all the X-Nauts threw items, several were throwing what looked like Crystal Stars... Could any of those have been the Ruby Star? They WERE Red.
Some of them could have been an A.A (Art Attack)Hitboxes Which has the same color as the Ruby Star

Bringle I feel like if youre gonna speedrun the randomizer it HAS to end with beating Shadow Queen. Otherwise its a speedrun thats entirely RNG dependent:(
That would just.. make it even more RNG dependent, since you'd need to find the stars *and* get to the Shadow Queen too
Unless you mean just beating her without getting the stars first, which would be just as RNG dependent. The whole *point* of a randomizer is to make things, well.. *random*. There's no way to make it not rng dependent

I remember watching 2 people compete for a score on this mod. It was timed. Its pretty cool if I remember right
I really like the dynamic of doing a speedrun in this focused on random battles and utilizing the randomized coins. Maybe a different goal could reduce how luck dependent it is. My first thought was for the end goal to instead just be leveling up a certain number of times. Still keeps the random aspects of the items you get and how quickly you get rooms with lategame enemies, but would limit how badly you can get screwed over by rough RNG.
I got a suggestion for a video. You have done randomizer and prolog pit so why not try prolog pit with the random coins sure it would probably be easier but might be a fun challenge.

Seems interesting, but I'll be real with you chief: randomized coins and decoupled entrances ruins it. The ability to to just keep walking back and forth through the same door while fighting basic enemies to roll the slot machine in the hopes of a win is just really bad. The best case scenario would be if the entire path is randomized but static after that along with all the item placements, then it's a matter of finding what 7 places the crystal stars spawned in which could be out in the open in Rogueport still, but equally could be behind Grofus and then you have to make a decision between checking all the easier places and hope none spawned behind long boss fights or if you want to take that risk or not.
Alternately if all the crystal stars were still on the bosses (but randomized which ones were which) and then you have to find and beat the Shadow Queen at the end of it all to win, that'd be awesome too. Being able to completely skip all bosses 100% of the time and repeatedly grind the same area over and over until you just win isn't fun.
I agree, it would be a lot cooler if it was more like a Pokemon map randomizer where each randomization was seeded and you could figure out which loading zones connected where. The modding community for this game is very small and not a lot has been figured out about it overall. Hopefully in the future we can get a more customizable and better randomizer!

The shadow beings get revenge the first run by taking your star and ruining your time.
I think doing the shadow queen makes more sense than all crystal stars as the goal since it actually requires you to build up a good loadout instead of just getting lucky and continuously going through doors
gotta grind out that rng and get a monster to drop ALL seven at once in the first 5 minutes
I think the debug badges are just as legit as getting supernova straight away. Everything should be fair game in a run like this.
With Supernova at least you can't use it constantly, the debug badge is 1 BP and basically takes all skill out since it preforms everything for you. Also it completely breaks Power Bounce, which will hit 9999 times lmao
@@yellowwinner1 But I mean a challenge like this pretty much comes down to "speed" anyways since it's not particularly difficult in the first place. Using that many power bounces isn't even practical in that context. So given the rest of the mod, it's balanced.
What’s up with all of the updated art assets? Is that part of the randomized?
Do you have to pick up badges to remove them from the drop pool? If so it may be worth grabbing them just to increase the chance for stars.

How many power bounce the game does with the debug badge ?
I believe it depends on each specific enemy’s programmed power bounce cap. On a Goomba it will power bounce 9999 times, but on some bosses it will cap between 5 and 8.
Right now I'm setting up my ultimate gaming rig I've always wanted. i picked up a terrabyte hard drive and it's completely full of... Uhhh not roms... For every nintendo system. Can't wait until I can start working on patches and hacks. This one is the one I'm playing first when done.
