      Best guess is your looking at cheaper home owner fencing which is made lighter duty to keep costs down. Or it may be foreign import fencing made to metric standards. Check/call your local fence supply store or look up specs at fence manufacturers like Master Halco and then find a dealer near you. Commercial fencing is heavier duty and often times thicker.

    Hello,
    I’d like to ask for your advice. I have a fence with 19 terminal posts in a straight line. The terminal posts are 2-3/8” inches and 6ft tall above the ground. They are embedded 24 inches down in concrete. Approximately 15 of these posts are not plumb. They are slightly not level. Approximately 5 degrees off. I have a top rail going. I have also a top rail bar that is tension banded between all of these posts. My worry is that over time the terminal posts will continue to tilt. Should I correct them now or is it not worth the effort? What kind of lifespan can I expect if they are going to continue to tilt? Thank you in advanced.

    • @BillyCardano
      @BillyCardano Před 6 lety +1

      Freedom Forall American To start, make sure to dress the posts accordingly with tension bands and brace bands (with making sure to presqueeze your bands so they stay in desired position on the terminal(s)), accounting for a brace band at the bottom of the terminals for the tension wire hookup. Basically, after the posts and top-rail are installed and before the chainlink is up, you install the tension wire by feeding the tension wire through the bolt that is in the bottom brace band about 18 inches. Squeeze the tension wire around the bolt to prevent slipping and coil the slack around the wire tight, to ensure professional finish. tighten that nut and run the tension wire on the finish side of all line posts, assuming a straight line. using a maasdam wire grip and a massdam 1 ton comealong, wrap the terminal with the comealog cable and grab the wire grip with the mechanism hook, and crank until desired tightness is achieved. repeat the wire feeding process, ensuring the tightest tension. Be careful, if you crank to tight or not allow the tension to equally distribute, the tension wire can and will snap. gentle shaking along the line will help distribute tension. Hope this helps

      FrostbiteX definitely not true, grades in every yard varies, and with chainlink you have to account for the top rail and also leaving a little bit of the diamond sticking up past the top rail, so say you have a 4 ft tall chain link fence, usually you'd wanna set the post at about 46 inches, while also leaving clearance at ground level so they can still trim grass

      Truth Seeker it depends on how many feet there are total, say there's 100 feet, with chainlink you usually wanna get as close to 10 foot centers as possible, so that would be 10 posts, say you have an uneven number, divide by 10 and round up
