- This is part 39 of my 100% Super Mario 3D World Walkthrough. This part includes World Crown-Mystery 'Mystery House Marathon'. See the description below for the times for each of the green stars in these stages.

If you think about it Boom Boom in room 29 is the true final boss of the game.

This level must be what true pain feels like. 30 trials of varying levels of difficulty, all with tight 10 second timers, that must be completed without messing up ONCE. The pressure must be extraordinary for anyone doing a 100% run of this game.
I feel the pain. To think, I have to do this FIVE TIMES for the 100% playthrough, plus suffer through Champion's Road. I already had a cow with the second star in the dark piranha creeper jungle level. You have to light up 12 light-holders with fire, while doging creepers and fire piranha plants WITH BALANCE.

Fr, Champions road is easy compared to that.
This must be the only Mystery House where making even a mistake will cost the player from completing the entire marathon.
I've almost broke my switch because of this level. This is what made me hate the original Mario On original nintendo. You could not save the fucking game
I would love to punch the person in the face that decided. This would be a smart idea . This is 2023 We do have the ability to save games nowadays. But apparently the person was too stupid to put it in here

For those going for stamps on Switch, after collecting star #29 but before jumping into the purple box, add as many characters as you have joycons. It’ll take 2-3 runs instead of 5 that way.
The bunny one is REALLY EASY, If you're on Wii U, just tap the bunny with the gamepad.

Because the characters in the switch version moves slightly faster, some of these challenges are actually more difficult on the switch

I actually completed this once with my friend. It was hell.
For the baseball one, if you have the fire flower, as soon as you warp into the room, don’t move just fire a fireball at the center baseball. It will skirt over the fence and go all the way to the star. Super easy.
once i was able to get through it once, the rest of the times weren't so bad. Thanks!

So, you actually have to do it with 5 characters
Your videos are really helpful! I've been stick on this world, but your videos are really helping me out!
For # 16, you can cheese this by doing a stomp jump in front of the platform's shadow and jump straight into the opening.
So, just like champion's road, this level seemed completely impossible for me to do alone at first. But after 20-30 tries i cleared it with toad adn then tried mario and did it 1st try. Not so hard anymore, since i've basically mechanized the ideal movement sequences n stuff.
Champion road took me about 175 tries to get my first clear with luigi (no powerups) but after that i just went with double tanooki suit and most of the other characters took me less than 5 tries each (tho toad took me about 20 and rosalina was 1st try).
TLDR if you are getting rekt by champion road or this, keep practicing. to quote zenyatta from overwatch, "Repetition is the path to mastery".

BRO. I am not even capping when I say this. Over 1000 attempts on champions road with Luigi before finally finishing it. It left a deep, salt-filled wound which includes lots of rage, swearing, punching my mattress and almost throwing my controller across the room. This was literally my greatest exploit as a Mario veteran, and two words follow: Never. Again.
I did it with toad first too. Figured his reduced jump would be good training for the other characters, piece of cake now 🤣

Finally completed that level! I must say it was a lot harder than expected, if only because of the fact that you got to do all 30 trials in one go.
Yeah its hard the first time. But if you have a strategy and know what to expect its easier to do.
With Mario it took me forever until I started getting a strategy
With Luigi and Peach it only took a few attempts. Now am missing just toad and rosalina
With Toad it took me 2 attempts because I made a Mistake in the Ice Skate room
And with rosalina just 1 attempt. Once you got a strategy down its easier. I like this mystery house since its challenging for newcomers and once they get a strategy its kinda satisfying finishing all 30 stars
There's so many things you can do to cheese a lot of these rooms. For example: the spinning sky wheel with 2 piranha plants just wall jump off the front wall.
The skate is giving me the most trouble. It doesn't want to turn where I want it to turn.
I found out in the switch version that if you immediately do the cat dive or long jump after you land and run as quickly as you can, you'll get that stupid star without using the skate

Honestly I think the Crown World's levels are the hardest. And not easy to beat in 1 try.

Nah i think star world is total bullshit most of the green stars require the cat suit and the flag poles are almost impossible in some levels without the cat suit. Plus there is loads of hardcore platforming honestly world star took me like 5 hours to beat while the others took ne few hours less but thats imo

One stupid idea Nintendo ever made was that during an action-packed level in a Mario game, you have to finish the whole level without any mistakes or checkpoints! You know what that means? Make one slim mistake at any time, and you get sent back to the start! I wanna play this game again to see how it feels.
Update: Well, I did it, and I felt proud after finishing it!
I beat this level as all 5 characters!!!! Took so long. For real I'm so happy
I like how the last part rains coins. It can distract the player from winning.

I have a strategy to beat this Mystery House Marathon easily.
1st Step: I recommend playing as Toad, go with an equipment of a Fire Flower on the start and a Cat Bell saved for later floors.
2nd Step: Once you completed 8 floors, before entering the box use the Cat Bell for rest of the floors.
3rd Step: Right before you enter the final floor, if you are planning to 100% the game, log in up to 4 controllers to make it easier.

Replaying this game again. I just made it World crown and I'm having difficulties with the skate. I cannot control it at all, it always does a U-turn when I turn in another direction.
Same here. For anyone else with a similar issue: replay world 3-1 over and over until you "get it". Especially try to get the red coins consistently. That's when you know you "got it".
Also, aim AT the guys that move sideways. By the time you come close, they will have moved on. Otherwise they'll move into your path.

You can cheese the Thowmp/Panel one by touching the panels on the Gamepad/Switch Screen, but you still have to bomb the wall
Having to do the levels once in the Champion Crown would've been enough but needing to do it 4 more times is overkill I honestly hate it the game kinda stops being fun at that point but I've gotten so far I may as well 100% this game because I'm never doing it again.
Yeah, I don't understand why Nintendo decided to force the players to play each level five fucking times to 100% the game. It's so pointless!

This is a very unpopular opinion that will probably get a lot of hate, but I actually think this is harder than champions road. Champions road is the second hardest in my opinion.
Just finished the level with Rosalina, it took me 20 tries just to get it right and beat the level.

Call me crazy, but I think this is harder than champion's road.
On the 8th level, you can fall down the slide to get the star... and then you can climb back up. You'll go right under the ladybug enemies. This is how I usually do it, as the baseballs can sometimes be unpredictable.

The timed challenges in Super Mario 3D World are small time compared to those bonus timed challenges in Kirby and the Rainbow Curse. Now those will make you rage!
