    Fellow recently released a new coffee sieve affectionately called SHIMMY. Is the Fellow Shimmy more than just a cute name? In this review we dive right in to see not only how it performs on its own, but also up against other coffee sifters such as the Kruve Sifter Max. Fellow might really have a winner with this one!

    First time I see a grind fines comparison between multiple grinders. Interesting they all produce plenty of fines.

    Great review of a product i completely missed. Might get it for making better pourover coffee. Thanks for your vids they're really informative and beautifully shot / professionally edited.

    Excellent review! Best I’ve watched on this item so far!

    Very useful review. The shot at 2:08 implied that you sifted the coffee from all these grinders, which is a lot of work, but really interesting. Shame you did not write weights of the normal and fine coffee they produced.

    I have the Specialita, but I think that having one of these would benefit me because even though the Eureka grinder has a pretty good clump crusher, this wouldn’t be a bad thing to pick up.

    I like to drink espresso and pour over coffee, but it is hard to find a grinder which do both good. So I decided for a espresso grinder and use the shimmy when I want a pour over. For me still better than 2 grinders

      Does this grinder exist? Something under a million dollars too. We have a niche, espresso it’s fine but pour over bleh just a mud factory. I’m contemplating a second grinder

    Good video. Would the sifted fines be suitable for espresso machine si8ngle shot basket or would they need to be treated as 'turkish'?

    • @LifestyleLab_
      @LifestyleLab_  Před 3 lety

      Just the fines alone would be too fine for use in an espresso shot (you also have no control over the grind size, so you can't dial in an unpressurized basket)

  • @megajig

    A fair assessment. I’ll stick with my Sifter.

    Do you recommend this if i have a baratza encore?

    • @LifestyleLab_
      @LifestyleLab_  Před 2 lety +1

      The Baratza Encore is a good grinder, so you don't "need" it, but as explained this will make a noticeable difference to taste on ANY grinder. If you're interested to play around, I think its worth it :) only way to know if you prefer the more uniform results

      The samples we received had a few quite large quality issues, and so far the prototype grinders have not been very good... aka, it wouldn't be a positive review by the looks of it right now

      @@LifestyleLab_ thanks....it's sleek....I'm looking for a lamp that'll fit in nice at my work office, where I'm also planning to set up a coffee station....so far, I'm leaning toward going with the Fellow social pour-over kit....don't know if I can afford their grinder yet....so the Shimmy may be a needed accessory for me if I have to buy a more affordable grinder option...

    • @LifestyleLab_
      @LifestyleLab_  Před 3 lety +1

      The beauty of pour over is that you can slowly upgrade each piece as you go :)

  • @perstouch40
    @perstouch40 Před 3 lety

    Curious would this work for espresso

    • @LifestyleLab_
      @LifestyleLab_  Před 3 lety

      It would and it wouldn't. When grinding for espresso then sifting, you'd loose around half of your dose to "fines" because you're simply grinding much finer. Sifting would also require you to grind EVEN finer to compensate for the faster flow rate... resulting in even more fines...
      So basically, you can make it work, but you're going to waste a whole lot of coffee

  • @DavidRBermudez
    @DavidRBermudez Před 18 dny

    So I have a question now....if there are significant amounts of fines, would you need to grind more than 18g of coffee, let's say, 19g to end up with 18 without the fines?

    • @LifestyleLab_
      @LifestyleLab_  Před 18 dny +1

      Yes!
      But more likely even more than 19g

    • @DavidRBermudez
      @DavidRBermudez Před 18 dny

      @@LifestyleLab_ I thought so. I just got mine today and noticed lots of fines and it got me thinking. It adds an interesting twist to my pour-overs, immersions and aeropress.

    • @LifestyleLab_
      @LifestyleLab_  Před 18 dny

      @DavidRBermudez try blooming and doing your first pour with the sifted grounds, then add in the fines, and complete the brew

    • @DavidRBermudez
      @DavidRBermudez Před 18 dny

      @@LifestyleLab_ You know what....I got decaff here .....I'm gonna try it out now

    • @DavidRBermudez
      @DavidRBermudez Před 18 dny

      @@LifestyleLab_ Interesting!! with the fines added after the bloom, there is still clarity, but a little bit extra bitterness that was not there when using just the sifted coffee...adding complexity to my cup...and i'm using decaf for this. You've just opened another floodgate for me here!!
