    Thank you! As an owner of a VF8 for the past 8 months, I am glad to hear a different take on this car that I have been enjoying driving so much. Yes, there are things that are continuously being improved on the VinFast but many of the "problems" mentioned in those bad reviews were actually due to the driver's unfamiliarity with the car instead of the car itself. Nobody that I showed my car to saw any issue with panel gaps which "the other car" still seems to possess even 10 years into the making. And nobody in my family gets.. motion sickness from sitting in the passenger seat, front or back! I do get a lot of compliments from passer-bys who think the car looks beautiful outside and inside! Glad I got the VF8 and after 11K miles, I still am very happy about my choice!

      @rubberroast1598 yeah we are very happy with this vehicle. There were some issues like the delay of the vinfast app that we didnt like. Is that still an issue? I wouldn't even install a charging port at home. would just plug into regular outlet.

    • @holhydro
      @holhydro Před 3 měsíci +1

      @rubberroast1598 np. i installed a charging port at home because i believe our charger give up to 60a while the stove plug is only 40a plus its more convenient than having to take out the charge kit all the time. I am not sure of the scheduling of the charging time we didnt think of that feature. Usually we just charge it overnight when we get home from work. We take our vinfast to the dealer every 3 months for a software update and vinfast call us a lot for feedback about our vehicle which we give it to them i hope that they take it in to continue to improve this car. I drive a toyota sienna for work, my wife the vf8. When i drive the vf8 its night and day different in technology and luxurious feel of the vehicle, the performance like the acceleration and steering. The sienna is over 60k the vf8 is 56k for standard model or 65k for plus which is what we have, so at a price point the vf8 really delivers in value! This is a luxury vehicle, you wont get that for 60k with a toyota.

    Yes you can feel the road imperfections a bit more than in other EVs and turning off the turning light after changing lane is a bit annoying but it’s overall a fun car to drive. It’s giving the Model Y a run for its money. This certainly should be in the list of anyone looking to buy an EV car.

  • @NanoSchaap
    @NanoSchaap Před 8 měsíci +36

    Well . I now have both a Model Y and a VF8 and a have a short pros / cons list. Here you go. Model Y , not premium look and feel as compared to VF8. Model Y very hard on uneven pavement, VF8 much smoother. Model Y always charge with my wall charger and had no problem on the road. VF8, does not accept my tesla wall charger with adapter and they told me that it is not compatible. That doesn’t help to sell the brand. Model Y service in Canada, good so far. VF8 service great. But did not expect to call them several times. Tesla got 1 issue resolved on my driveway and one at the shop. Don’t get me going on the ICE car experiences with GM, Jeep, Nissan and their services and several recalls. These companies have been on the market for 100+ years and still did not their act together. And I loved my ICE cars, including the Jeep Diesel. Yes, Dino farting machine. 😊. So if you want to be respected, you need to be fair. I know that I will go over the pain of being an early adopter of a new car / technology. But it is hard to beat a 10 year warranty and a service that can only improve from here. BTW. I still love my model Y.

      @chaudcola Před 8 měsíci +5

      Interesting, thanks for sharing. My friend and I test driven both. My friend is more of a car guy than me and he preferred the vf8 over the model Y. He also liked the HUD that let you keep your eyes on the road without always look at the big screen for some information. Personally I also preferred the vf8. The only downside for me is the tunnel...
      I'm curious to see how the battery will perform during winter in Canada for the vf8 and how it will do on the snowy road (should do good since it is AWD). If you can share your experience later, a comparison of both battery performance during the winter would be appreciated. I read somewhere that the vf8 is compatible with Tesla chargers so that's not true...

      @chaudcola. Will do my best to report the progress. As far as the battery goes. I expect to get a hit on the mileage due to cold weather. It’s the same with the Model Y. The difference is that the model Y is the best in class as far as efficiency is concerned. My first records on the charges and mileage tells me that VF8 is approx 350 WHr/Km whereas Model Y would be 238 Wh/Km . But that all depends on how you drive. I am not super aggressive .

      @chaudcola Před 8 měsíci +2

      @@NanoSchaap thanks for the response. It is informative. I was wondering because some EV cars get more affected by the cold weather than others. Since the vf8 EPA is better in real life than what is written, it can surprise us. I'm just curious.

      @NanoSchaap Před 5 měsíci +2

      Update . VinFast made changes to the thermal management system to improve the efficiency of the system . Not sure it will affect the range though. It is more to do with how to control the cabin and battery temperatures. The car is also heavier than MY . It is now colder in the Toronto area and I should be able to monitor the performance. Please note that I did not put winter tires on the VF8 but have on MY. Last but not least. VF8 app on iOS is still a work in progress.

      I’m excited for Vinfast because in the “worst car ever vehicle” reviews I’ve seen, the Vinfast problems discussed were pretty basic and non-catastrophic. My issue with Vinfast is the price… it’s 15% too high.

  • @PanniNgo
    @PanniNgo Před 7 měsíci +19

    I have Vinfast VF9 now and in general, I’m happy with this, except for some small issues and a medium range, which is changing when they use the new battery for VF9, which is increased the range into 550-590km. I have bought a BMW gasoline 7 years ago and I have big problem with the gear box from first miles. Nothing is perfect, VF still has some problems, but when I heard some car reviewers, I know they told a lie and unfair for the new brand car. If you want them to do better, we should give them the constructive feedback, not like “unacceptable”, “very, very bad” or “shouldn’t buy”. They have not bought VF yet, but they tell as a truth.

    One reason why I trust Consumer's Reports when they buy and test their vehicles -- they cannot be "bought" by the carmaker because they actually buy their test vehicles, and have their own test track and have honest reviews. Also, their millions of subscribers will let them know how their own vehicles hold up in their annual surveys (which I am one of them) and I love my Hyundai Kona!

    This didn't have to do with build quality but is related to this discussion. Famous story of the media launch of the Ford Contour. Ford miscalculated and didn't bring enough cars to the launch. Members of the press had to share ride-n-drives with other scribes and it made them cranky so nearly all of them complained about the lack of interior room among other gripes. Now the car had its faults but it was a compact sedan and interior space wasn't all that different from similar cars but media folks hadn't been forced to ride in the back seats of those other cars.

    100% agree that there has been a political reason behind the unreasonably bad reviews for the VinFast cars and love the evidence you have shown proving the double standard.
    Note that there was a time when i spent hours every week watching videos of Elon Musk and Telsa. I could be considered Teslarati and an Elon fanboy. I have bought three new Model 3 cars between 2018 to 2022.
    Also, I personally test drove the VF8 at the factory in Vietnam in 2022, so while it didn’t accelerate like an M3, it gave a very smooth ride and I reserved one because the price point made sense at the time vs Model X.
    When I saw all the ridiculously bad reviews for the VF8, I knew something wasn't right and suspected what you revealed in this video.

    Great video, Alex! I have noticed for a long time that car reviews from different car markets are often wildly different in their perspectives, and it made me think reviewers are selectively focusing on what aspects of a vehicle they pre-suppose consumers in a given market will value most over others. I personally care about reliability, ease of maintenance and repair, and efficiency, but in the good ol' U.S. of A., I am bombarded with reviews ignoring those factors in favor of excessive power, massive vehicle bloated size, and "refinement" that to me is hardly if at all noticeable and makes upkeep of the vehicle a costly pain in the ass.
    Your video just reminded me that dealers make most of their profit on servicing and that manufacturers are increasingly trying to get us all dependent on subscription services, while they also spend billions on ad campaigns to brainwash us into thinking compact and cost-efficient is bad, but upmarket and expensive is good. Did I mention they've flat out canceled all the affordable models here? Bleh!
    I realize you weren't addressing that specific question but your observation here about reviewers being biased seems to fit in perfectly with the rest of the industry bs.

    I think that Vinfast dropped the ball, the cars were literally cutting off during media drives and people had to switch vehicles. They were not quite fully baked, and that sets a very bad tone. For the range, as much as the Vinfast costs and as large as it is the range is unacceptable but then again, the media lets other cars slide while Vinfast gets knocked down. I also hate how car media reviewers rarely actually discuss charging speed of the vehicles and give high marks to cars that charge slowly for a modern EV.

    I used to do reviews of computer products many moons ago, I worked really hard to be very scientific and objective but unfortunately that is only possible if you operated 100% without any sort of sponsorship. Nobody wants to bite the hand that feeds them too much and nobody can really survive financially if they don't have some sort of relationship which fuels bias. Consumers just have to be aware of this and diversify their media sources enough to see multiple perspectives. I have a 2019 Model 3 and very well aware of the build quality issues. I was pretty lucky finding one with better panel gaps but I do have ongoing creeks and rattles and thin crappy paint. I still love the car for it's performance and driving experience, tech and charge network regardless but yeah Tesla build quality was really crap and only now getting better. As far as media bias goes, it's everywhere for every single product market for sure. The better sites have sponsors whom are not related to the products being reviewed but most are unfortunately. I can't really blame them though, they gotta pay for their work somehow.

I know VinFast does have its own scope for improvements, but as a debut carmaker into US and international market, their pace is amazing compared to others. With that pace they have high chances to pick up customer base by applying learnings faster.

    Bit confused vinfast is going to sponsor some upcoming videos with you? To be honest most of the criticism I see is actually warranted. The Kyle Connor was taken out of context but that’s ok. To be honest there is the over arching point of not being able to trust car reviewers. If any of us are spending the money on a car please go drive it yourself. Use the reviews including this one as helpful when they highlight tech specs or charging network. Other than that mainly just test the cars yourself. Live with them for a day or two. Even this review of others reviews.

    Alex makes a good point on the conflict of interest that some of these journalists have. However I saw the Connor Kyle review of Vinfast when it came out and he said that he turned down the junket they offered him and told the rep who accompanied him on the press drive to his face that the car sucks. Kyle also did not give Tesla a ringing endorsement, which even the clip Alex included shows . Alex took the junket and is now the Vimfast payroll. So you have to take what he says here with a grain of salt as well.

    CONSUMER REPORTS said media cars can be modifed, like Alex said. In the case of Kyle he gave the facts with different takes on them, price, charging, performance, etc are all factors, many reviews act like EVs are all the same price, for example, complaining about the charging speed of a Chevy Bolt
    We can't get proof that journalists don't own car stocks. Tesla is a stock company that makes cars.
    I think the most important accusation against VinFast is that they pay for reviews.

      @EforElectric I think it's a few things:
      1. A lot of people were experiencing EVs for the first time. So were focused on the things that make EVs superior.
      2. People didn't understand what Tesla was up to, i.e. building cars "efficiently". And also didn't have a lot of experience with luxury cars. It had the luxury materials...was it luxury?...kinda!
      3. Back then panel gaps weren't a thing and nobody cared about them. (Seems like it was kind of the only thing to ding Tesla on, and it became a thing.)
      4. Build quality actually wasn't that bad. My 2015 was/is fine.
      5. Model S performance was next level....Vinfast doesn't really have anything that stands out.

    Okay, I'm confused. I think we can all agree with your main point about the fact that many reviewers can be influenced by how the car companies treat them. Inviting people on fancy trips, wining and dining them, and giving them access to press cars will certainly influence many "reviewers". Even if it's not a overt quid pro quo arrangement, I'm sure different reviewers are influenced in many different ways by automakers in different degrees. I also think your VW videos were commendable.
    But then you say in this video, "I wasn't going to do this video, but then Vinfast offered me a sponsorship deal". Huh? Then you spend most of the video comparing 2023 reviews of Vinfast to 2012-13 reviews of the Model S? That was 10 years ago!? Back then, Tesla was one of the only EV makers, and they were making a car that was unmatched in the world, and ground breaking. When a car is doing things that have never been done before, yeah, it's easy to overlook panel gaps and bad paint jobs! You're criticizing everyone for criticizing Vinfast, but are not claiming that they are wrong or unfounded. To me, this seems like much worse bias than anything that you have pointed out. Kyle constantly says in his videos that Tesla build quality is garbage. He's been doing it for years.
    I have to say, I have enjoyed your videos over the years, but they seem to have taken a turn toward the defensive and mean spirited lately. I hope you turn that around, because I think you have a lot to add to the overall conversation. Best of luck to you.

    The reason these reviewers were critical of Vinfast is because of the suspicion that the brand was used to do insider trading. It was listed in the US but with only 1% of the stocks available to buy. This meant that the owner could control the price of the stock, to the point where it was valued more than Ford.
