  • I created this video for my Film Critic class. Hopefully this provides an understanding of camp and Susan Sontag's explanation through her essay.

This is an extremely well put together video for an genre in films that is hardly defined.

I love this video! The game "Is it Camp" is not camp do you think? Camp escapes categorization and as you mentioned in the first slide, is a mode of aestheticism. Camp only became a more widely known concept it slowly developed its own canon

It is similar to IRONIC, which is also hard to define.

I appreciate the attempt, but defining "camp" simply as "love for the unnatural" does this sensitivity a disservice. Extremelly reductive considering Camp is philosophically quite the oposite. Camp is much more. Its the absurd, the irony, the extra, the ,"for the sake of it" of life

Could you say that camp is a subculture within the 20th-21st Postmodernism movement?

    But why the word camp?

Sorry, but this did not help me much... Aquaman was called “campy” somewhere so I’m trying to figure out if something high-budget with state of the art computer-animated action scenes and backgrounds could be “camp”... still not sure. It just seemed commercial, overly macho and unfunny when it tried, which in many ways is the opposite.
