    I used to watch your program before I killed my cable, with everything streaming from multiple platforms you forget what your missing. Glad I found you here. The Scrambler and a Scout II are my two favorites, this is great project.

    One thing that would definitely get chucked into the deepest pit in hell, would be that Carter 2bbl carb.
    Howell EFI conversion FTW.

    One day I hope to be able to build a scrambler. I’d put a ford 300 i6 or small block ford with efi and zf5 transmission with Dana 44 8 lug front and 60 rear

    The slack in the timing chain is actually Jeep's cost efficient variable valve timing feature.

    This was built on the body of a military stretcher Jeep from the Vietnam era the only difference being that both door openings are the same in the scrambler!

    These engines, respond well to a couple of mild mods. First a A MSD ignition or a HEI distributor swap gets rid of anemic ignitions. A Mild RV cam, around 270 duration and a header, to help the engine breath better. I have used lots of different headers, having tried to save a buck, learn from my mistake use the Borla header or the Clifford header, the others either rust, crack, or heat up the floor. spend the money on a good header or keep the manifold. The problem the factory manifolds is they were choked with emission crap that long ago stopped working and is now just a source of exhaust and intake leaks

      @@cornpopfailed4141 The 258 engine is a repeat of a gas-guzzler, combined with low knowledge.
      An engine that gives nothing back, compared with what today's junkyard can provide.
      A 258 boat anchor up from the sea ???

    That engine warranty is unheard of (at least to me) for a crate engine.
    7 year, 100,000 miles?? What??
    Having a fuel injected TBI is a great upgrade to have and get some good gas miles with is plus too.
    You just turned an old tried and true 258 - 6 cylinder into a much more reliable and almost bullet proof engine that will last a long time with those upgrades.
    If I ever got my hands on a bone stock jeep like that I would do those changes to the fuel delivery form the old carb setup.

  • @gerardtrigo380
    @gerardtrigo380 Před 3 lety

    The engine you took out was not factory. Your new engine has the factory colors. Red Sixes from AMC were only used in stationary mount systems and some special commercial vehicles, not vehicles for use on the road. That is how AMC differentiated them at the factory. Looks like a good deal and proper replacement regimen.

  • @mindeloman

    Not that it really matters but that's the wrong color AMC blue for that Scrambler. That metallic blue color was used in the early 70's. late 70's and early 80's AMC blue is a weird color tone that's dark aqua green/blue. Hard to explain it really. Dennis Collins even talked about this on his channel. I found it at KBS Coatings but it wasn't cheap. $24 for one rattle can but it's very close to the right color. People more knowledgeable than me can corroborate. I think around 83 they went to just black paint.

    I envy you. Is there anything that you CAN'T do with a vehicle

  • @jeepanimal2943
    @jeepanimal2943 Před 3 lety +2

    Wrong! The gladiator was not to replace the Scrambler. It was to have a pickup in the mid sized truck market. And since soccer moms needed something other than a mini van, FCA HAD to make it a four door. To replace the Scrambler, Jeep needs to take an unlimited, weld the damn back doors shut, and move the roll bar back where it's supposed to be. Want a 4 door? Buy a Defender. Jeep also missed the mark with not making a 2 door version of the pickup. Not everyone is a soccer mom. 2 door with a 4.5 and a 6 foot bed? Sell a million of them to the "new" Jeep crowd. Sorry for the rant. I'm a semi purist. 4 door Jeeps are just wrong........

    Thank God he didn’t put a Chevy engine in it. Just fuel inject a 4.2 mild cam or just drop an AMC V8 in it. American motors never VINed the motors but scrambler never had a V8. Last year for Jeep V8s were 1980.

    Please don’t change the grill! Worse idea and change ever! New gladiator is not an old Jeep, it would be like changing the old jeeps to the bee gladiator grill! Keep the original grills always!!
