Thanks for watching, and I hope you all enjoyed a return to the world of Lethal Company! Me and my friends have been really enjoying the game again ever since version 50 was pushed to the beta branch, so I hope you like this look into one of the most intriguing elements thus far. Cheers!
Excellent video, love the writing and delivery. Keep it up!
I've been playing on a previous version so that my friendgroup's mods will work, so this was a great vid to brush up on what the robots are all about. Mind that the link to Nougat's channel seems to be formatted wrong, though? Could just be on my end, happens sometimes.
@@clevermeadow8866 I'll give the link a look! Thanks for letting me know, also I'm glad you enjoyed the vid!
These things seem to be a fire and forget style weapon just dump a whole lot of them on a planet and wait
Somebody theorized that the loud noises and bright lights produced by the old birds are meant to counter coil heads, as their entry states that coil heads get stunned when faced with loud noises or bright lights. While it's probably referencing the stun grenade, it's an interesting thought, but old birds are way too big and armed to be a reasonable counter against a coil head.
Considering we don't have any weapons capable of hurting a Coilhead, maybe you need something that size to actually kill one. Or they wanted a solution that could deal with coilheads and just about any other threat at the same time
Tbh it would make sense that old birds were made to counter most common forms of war, and coil heads were simply one box on the check list.
Old Birds also activate when you take out the apparatus, which shows a radiation warning. In the coilhead bestiary entry, it was explained they have a high level of radiation. Old Birds were likely designed to detect radiation from coilheads.
I like the idea but I think that the old birds turn way too slow to catch coilheads in their lights, but considering they grab, fly, and shoot long ranged rockets. I think they were supposed to stun and transport coils, and if all else fails, blow them back to hell. (They were also both weapons of war)
Someone had also theorized that the loud noises were to overwhelm the target with the noises by attacking with various stimuli (Alarms, babies crying, etc)
Automatons? Sounds like Artifice is in dire need of some democracy.
he good luck. thoes sucker proably made to suvive orbital bombardment
Old birds? Looks like another hulk to me. Nothing a rail cannon or spear can't fix.
Railcannon? Seems like those machines would die for spare change.
@@levfox ULTRAKILL MENTIONED RAHHHH
Anyone requested orbitals?
Perhaps they built the Old Birds to guard against Blind Dogs, Giants and other creatures that come out at night. But these ended up getting out of control, associating anyone who left the shelters at night as threats.
this one ought to be it
If so then why I found some that are on during the morning started giving me PTSD
@@melvinhotdogman6926There are cases that outside monsters spawn very early during the afternoon. And an Old Bird being online during the morning was probably due to the appartaus
I've heared the theory of them being used as a weapon of war against the faction that produced the coilheads.
The Old Birds have everything to counteract Coil Heads according to both of their entries.
Why do make noise of a baby crying then
"At Nightfall", but it's literally hell by 11:00 AM
Real though 💀
Somebody grabbed the apparatus a bit too early…
@@1bridgeyboo nah, Artifice spawns dogs and giants a lot earlier than other moons
Most likely due to Old Birds existing on Artifice and activating closer to night, so other enemies have to adapt and come out earlier.

You know, the info entry for Embrion makes me wonder if Zeekerss' recent comment about wanting to add more interior variety to the game has anything to do with the "vast cave network" mentioned in that entry. A "caves" interior would be a fitting addition.
That's a very interesting thought...
@@everberon maybe we'd get the mineshaft elevator from the announcment trailer as a part of that, if it were to be a thing.
Doesent it say that titan also has caves?
I also have an idea for another interior, this would be a 1 percent chance on most planets and would be overgrown by some lifeform that would be one being, it would have special traps like moths that consume players, new monsters will be sort of like twisted versions of the fungus, and when it eats a player it takes control of them, all the monsters there are part of a hive mind making them extremely dangerous, there will be some new loot exclusive to this interior in addition to old ones, mostly being specimens from the infestation, one would be the heart of the infestation which functions like an apparatus but once pulled the monsters will know where the heart is and will target it.
Theres also a new planet that comes with this called "Infestation" which is entirely overgrown and has nearly a 100 percent chance of the overgrowth interior.
This update technically added 4 whole enemies, though mask hornets are similar to the bees.
Haha you know what's super funny about that? I wrote that before the Tulip Snakes were added. I was thinking of the Hornets, not the Snakes haha. Oh well
@@everberon thats fine, the update was broken up oddly and the betas didn’t properly show everything
19:51 would keep in mind that it is outright told/implied old birds were disassembled and dissected. It is not a stretch to assume old birds due to the sheer terror they caused were remade to protect facilities. Especially since all old birds no matter the tim will activate when a core is pulled from it's plug.
Would also mention, ORIGINAL programming, I'm willing to bet that some old birds were reprogramed to enter hostile or uncharted planets. Especially if war was happening. Like war 101 in history is, steal enemy tech.
These are robots, robots follow commands to the letter, no matter what. A fully wiped and reprogrammed old bird could exhibit unusual behavior.
So I 100% believe old birds hop planets. However whether or not they were meant to, is another thing entirely.
All good points!
They activate when you remove the core because of the radation which further supports the coil head theory as the old birds are sensitive to radiation which the coil heads produce
@@tmyeeterydeetery1579 why is it cause of the radiation? Not rhetorical just wanna know.
@@Sunny-vq9uu it says in there info they were made to be weapons of war and the coil heads are presumed biological weapons of war that emit radiation which would explain why they activate when the core stops powering the facily and instead emits radiation
How would the old birds react to a player holding a toy robot (when the toy is on)?
13:30
I don’t know if this is pointed out later since I’m commenting this right after this time stamp, but the toy robot wears headphones, further solidifying the theory that it is a family-friendly toy version of the Old Birds, which have giant speakers or “sound cannons.”
Old Birds have audio of babies crying since humans are hardwired to respond to the sound of a human baby's cries. If you didn't know what it was, you would immediately go and investigate to see what was wrong, only to see a 19-foot tall metal giant with the power of the sun for a head staring directly at you.
As to why this was used, it's tough to say. It was intentional, but what the reason for doing so is really up to whoever interprets it. It could be used to lure in unsuspecting victims, or it could be used to break soldiers' morale and sanity having to hear a prerecorded sound of a baby crying for days and weeks on end.
Just today since I heard this update and now I have one theory, could there be more mature old birds? I mean if you think about it, The old birds sound like babies, and it seems to be crying because I think it might be scared or something. Maybe there’s a bigger old bird that is like a parent.
Probably instead of crying, it will probably just start yelling at you and screaming at you like how an angry parent would if someone were being rude to their children.
@@DrWellRound Old Birds aren't living beings. They're robots.
@@lordpumpkinhead265 That's assuming they're 100% robotic and not robotic with a biological component. After all, we don't know what's inside those things. Think Daleks from Dr. Who, which were thought to be mechanical lifeforms only to reveal they were essentially super-tanks for another species. Or maybe they're like the Robobrain, Think Tanks, and Cyberdogs from Fallout and that body is actually holding a biological brain preserved by some unknown means.
I personally don't agree, I think it's a psy-op feature of the machine, but it is a possibility.
@@Krazykatboy All we know based off of current evidence is that they're robots. Everything else is fan theories and speculation.
the whole loudspeaker thing along with the spotlights reminds me of the real life military tactic in vietnam called "operation wandering soul". the whole idea was to have choppers, boats, and more with big loudspeakers blaring a recording of a dead VC soldier made to wander the jungle aimlessly, called "ghost tape 10" (the audio of which is uploaded to youtube). the whole point of the operation was to make the VC flee in fear or reveal themselves, and it was supposedly quite effective.
I’m so glad you connected the toy robot with the Old Birds, as soon as I saw the giant version I knew the toy HAD to be a replica of an Old Bird. I thought this simply because of the fact that it’s a robot that makes loud noise. When you mentioned they both make eerie sounds that children would make, it clicked and that solidified the theory in my mind.
The genuine war machines make crying sounds to psychologically damage the enemy, and the toys make laughing sounds to make them more appealing and less “scary” to their own population.
It’s like having a Batman action figure or plushie as a kid here on Earth, you feel “safe” knowing that your protector is out there fighting the good fight. It’s meant to add morale.
I only like the old birds for their "WHINY BABY NOISES" going *AAWAWWAAWWAWWRASEWAAWWWWWAA*
Why is that the reason you *_like_* them lol
@@smallxplosion9546I like it personally because of how jarring it is as you’d expect some alarm or something from a thing like the old bird and instead it starts wailing and screaming like a baby. I remember on first encounter when I was playing with my bf me and him encountered one and I recall us going from happy and joking around to pure confusion and fear as soon as it chased us and we heard the noises.
@@gibbster4097 then if they’re babies, shouldn’t they have a parent?

THE EARTHMOVER
44-Liquidation and the “Anglen Empire” leads me to believe there will be a water moon that would be dark with anglers who would search the depths of the ocean floor looking for crew members to devour (Ik it sounds stupid)
The entire Idea of Coil-Heads is stupid. Don't sell yourself short lol
The problem with a water planet is that the suits crewmembers wear aren't water proof, Zeekerss would have to add some kind of dive suit for that to be possible.
I wonder if the toy robots are supposed to be based off of old birds. They have similar designs
thats actually a good thought.. but why would they want to make a toy of a destructive weapon of war?
@@user-ve2ot6vn9t why would people want to make a toy of an f14 or a toy soldier?
Someone posted on reddit, an idea where toy robots get struck by lightning, and grow to crazy sizes. The v50 beta came out a few days later.
@@user-ve2ot6vn9tthere are toy tanks, toy bombs, toy guns, toy jets, toy submarines etc irl
It’s also worth noting IMO that the noises the toy robot makes sound somewhat similar to the cries of a baby, much like an old bird.
I love watching smaller youtubers they fell more real and genuine than bigger ones
Amen
Calling it now, between the old birds being offensive weapons of war and the torpedo on the side of the company building, everything's shaking up for us to attack the company
1:59 automaton you say?
CYBERSTAN, CANT KEEP HER DOWN!
love the content!! the toy robot correlation is so spooky, i really wonder if there is any more correlations like that in the future. either way, really curious on the lore of lethal company and can't wait for more :D
Thanks man! Glad you liked it!
"Living ransom letter" has got me wondering if the anglan Empire captured the enemy militants and trapped them in there. The noises produced by the old birds sounds like screaming from the occupants inside which could be a psychological tactic to dissuade the military from killing them.
Walking ransom letter.
+ The anglen empire was attacked by these things, it's not stated they used them.
I like how these guys came out right after someone thought of having lightning strike the robot toy, making it huge.
I know it just released 5 hours ago but this video definitely better get way more views! This was really well made and the editing really set the scene. Great work!

Something interesting me and my buddies found out was that, if you go through that hole in 68-Artifice, there is a sand landscape that if you go far enough and see the horizon from where you landed, there is an ENTIRE CITY lined in the horizon. Old facilites, buildings, giant machines, and even after nightfall, no enemies show at all. Nothing. just pure sand with nothing else to see, but the city. Took us the whole day walking through the sand, and nothing happened.
All right boys, were gonna need some serious help for these ones. ⬆️⬇️➡️⬅️⬆️

@@crimsonlanceman7882 watch those wrist rockets
someone in the server thought it was those camera guys and started singing the skibidi toilet theme after seeing them (we left him to die)
I knew war was a factor in the lore but nothing roped me Into the theories and speculation as much as the old birds have.
For starters, as I played the beta branch one of the most heard sound from the old birds I Got was the crying baby.
I found that very interesting seeing the Old birds have speakers or sound cannons on their chest and shoulders and high frequency sound waves have been used by police before and I assume has been/plans to be used in war.
Hearing a crying baby/injured animal can cause distress and panic with humans, let alone when a 100k lumen light is shining in your eyes while missiles fly at you.
I just imagine being a civilian in war and dealing with the voice of an old bird, it would cause you to go mad.
Another thing, what I thought would be alert sounds are actually laled as brainwashing is the files.
A heater as always!!!
Just two brothers, dropping new uploads on the same day 🔥
This was fantastic as your iceberg one!! I love all of this! Thanks to your friends helping and you for covering all of this and yeah I agree with the robot thing, soon as I seen them in game, I thought of those little toy ones. It was one of those moments were your like, "Oh" o_o
9:22 I'm kind of glad they removed the extra bit of detail on the Old Bird from Beta. NGL, for a Space Faring Sci-fi Setting, I doubt 50 of those Old Birds could cause an entire Empire's Downfall, or even a Capital City. Their Armaments while threatening to a Company Player, seem primitive in actual Sci-Fi power-scaling. Like our Current Day Real Life Capital-Class Warships are more Globally threatening than 50 Old Birds. So I think it's okay for Zeekerss to give themselves more time to develop the lore!! Also, one could argue "Mystery" makes them scarier, so I understand why they might've retracted some lore on them. I'm still excited to see how Lethal Company progresses it's story in future updates!
That depends. If they are virtually indestructible they can simply gradually exterminate the enemy piece by piece.
I didnt realize your channel was as small as it is. This is very well made.
Great video and story telling felt intrigued the whole video
Honestly, I think that later OLD BIRDs started selling themselves also as moon guards, because if you take out the Apparatus ([generator] sorry if it's misspelled), they ALL activate, which could mean that they go into stalk mode if something happens bad (no power) or if it's late and the owners cannot defend themselves. THX for reading :]
Edit: Artifice could have OLD BIRDs that Bunted or enemy OLD BIRDs (There is also a chance that enemy hacked OLD BIRDs that are on ARTIFICE, but other ones still could be security BIRDs)
If Old Birds are nicknamed "Walking Ransom Notes," that implies the existence of a known location to send some form of payment to get them to leave. If not, the nickname makes zero sense. Looking forward to the update that adds "The Mechanist"
really amazing video! you deserved waay more subs
Thanks for the kind words! Glad you like it
simply a banger, good sir
19:00 that forest giant in the upper right corner is VERY lost.
Another great video!
11:54 Those in the Lyran Commonwealth would LOVE this.
Orbital Insurtion: Throw the ‘Mech from space.
Part of me imagines that the fact the warehouses are large enough to contain the old birds and the trailer features a warehouse full of them makes me feel perhaps some were being stored on Artiface
The opening cutscene probably relates to the evac of Artifice, as it would explain the person sitting at the desk when all of the sudden, an explosion knocks out the lights, and then a bright light fills the room (old bird spotlight)
Very insightful. Love the video. Will you do a video on the butler? Would be very interesting
Sure thing!
Id love a Lethal Company PVE FPS where you go to war while trying to survive the monsters in Lethal Company
I thought Embreon was a battle field rather than a testing ground. The more you know I guess
Lethal company's lore is an enigma
I think that the reason of removing the info about Anglen and Buemoch from the entries was to make the entry itself focus more on Old Birds themselves, be shorter and to leave a little bit of mystery for the player (even if ut was ruined because of V50 beta).
Now that I know the lore, I understand why an old bird spawned in my first two in-game days of playing this game. Freaky stuff
While people's theories of the old bird's being made to combat coil heads is probably true, I think it's also very possible their sounds were made for psychological warfare
The link in the description that directs to ChiknNougat's video covering 44-Liquidation starts the video part way through already, just wanted to let you know! It's because there's "&t=72" at the end of the link to the video, so if you get rid of that then the video will play at the beginning. Love your content so much by the way, cheers!

Does anyone think that the developer created the Old Bird, because of the 20 lobby mod? Just wondering.
It added 3 new monsters, right? Old Birds, Tulip Snakes, Butlers. Am i wrong? :
Old Birds, Butlers, Tulip Snakes, and Mask Hornets which derive from Butlers.
old burds? mechs? cool but not in the vanilla game.
taking a more etherial view of it, theres 2 types of horrors right? the militaristic horros of bio creatures, mutated earth spiders, thumpers, things in the start of the game at facilities while later game has big sprawling mansions with clockwork meat creatures, ghosts and spiritual horrors cursed objects and beings like one is a miliratistic force creating horrors for us to find, and beings from a ancient empire cursed objects and so on in the power of the elite. my theory obviously is that each of the main themes of the horrors we see, militaristic force with the military and the empire and their artifacts. thought with the old bird mentioning theres no proof of where it came from with the military not being to blame, i say the company made the old birds for the military side of the ancient conflict, making it clean of their hands would be a good way to explain the origin and odd design of it n maybe they helped with turning some of the empires resources into forces as well
Honestly I thought that the game would have more furry elements
Like even a little bit but from what I know now there isn't a single bit of furry element

I think the Old Birds were created by the English military to colonize the space
who would win 3 old birds or v1? actully an old bird is basically just a sanded guttertank soo uhh
