Never in my life will I ever understand the culture that makes this business model possible. Like.... guys, no one cares about what you're doing in the gym. If some dude is maxing out and you're barely lifting anything, it's not a big deal. There's about a 99.999% chance that the dude who you think is laughing at you in their head literally doesn't give a single solitary shit about what you're doing. If anything they probably respect that you're at least at a gym at all. All this does is promote a slacker workout culture.
You're so right my man. I'm still very skinny and work out in a normal gym, and I have never ever experienced weird looks, getting laughed at etc. People are chill
Unless the person next to you in the gym is some kind of fuck boy then I guarantee you that the person maxing out either doesn't give a shit about what you're doing and/or respects you for being on your grind (no matter how small)
Yeah, the shame people feel when they start going to the gym is usually internal. The "no judgement zone" motto makes people feel accepted for where they are, making them think that they won't have to deal with the shame of comparison, but they don't see that the origin of shame and comparison is within themselves. If you're secure within yourself, people judging you is never a threat. The motto works though, because since it is a mind game, if you BELIEVE the culture's different, then you won't see if it isn't.
I give it my all when I go to the gym; that's what I'm focused on. I don't care who sees... except when I'm at PF and being a "lunk" is a thing. ;)
Na. I go to gold's gym and I'm about average build. I got a little cut.. but anyway, I get smug ass looks all the damn time. From skinny dude's, to big dude's, even females... There are a lot of judgemental people at gyms. Not all, some have very respectful people there. But I just don't let it phase me. I'm there for me. Not them.
As a plus size women trying to get fit, I wish this was the case. Ive been judged more times then I can count at the gym. For me it's just not a positive environment. My boyfriend goes to the gym. I use his home weights. I've lost 55lbs just lifting at home and going for bike rides. The gym isn't for everyone. I don't want to feel dread walking into a place that is suppose to make me feel better.
