It wasn't even really very close. Eddie performed 100% perfect text book reps; complete lockouts without double dipping. Thor on the other hand performed at best 90% and was fairly given a one rep deduction. Conclusion: Eddie not only won, but he smashed it, and deserves all the credit in the world. If anything, the judges were too lenient with Hafthor, but no matter how you feel about it, his score was 14 at the end of the exercise. Which meant that Eddie's target was 15. You have to also remember, Thor's argument is completely based on the fact, if that rep was allowed it would have been 15 each, and the overall score would have been a tie, not the one point Eddie beat him by.
However had a target to aim at, and did 15 because that's what he had to do to win. I'm 99.9% sure, Eddie would have been more than able to do 16 or 17 if he had to.
Plus there were 3 events after this I believe, so it's not as if he didn't have a chance to claw it back. Also on the Stone, Eddie knew he just had to lift them all to win, you could argue if he was against the clock and had to beat a specific time to win, he would have.
But as mentioned in the video, Thor is surrounded my 'Yes' men, if he told them he believed water was green and the sky was black, they'd back him and convince him he was right. Thor has at least 4 reps that could have been DQ'd, he wasn't locking his elbows on them all either. It's arrogance of the highest order for Thor to genuinely believe he was cheated out of the title. He's like a child throwing his toys out the pram.

@Senior Billy Bull Thor Broke the record by a mere 1kg. Eddie did it by a mere 35 Kg at the time amongst guys like Benedikt Magnusson and Jerry Prichett who also had attempted the 500KG lift. Sure Thor "could've" pull 20+ more kg to prove a point, but the simple fact that he didn't when he had a chance to blow eddies record away and take all bragging rights away from Eddie's name makes that argument invalid.

The ref GAVE thor 3 and a warning and then took the 4th. GAVE HIM 3. thor didn’t even lock out or wait for the down call in half of them simply because he wasn’t strong enough to hold the weight up. thor was weaker in this event than Eddie, its clearly visible in the footage! Eddie Hall beat the odds in this sport where only a few like Martins Licis (6'3") and Oleksii Novikov (6'1") are under 6'5". It was a massive accomplishment and congrats on your well deserved win.
This is constantly a problem over the years in WSM events. The judges constantly giving reps that should not count and warning instead. They need to really be harsher in the judgement of reps and no rep a lot more. The event and expectations are explained in detail and they know they are cheating when doing this and choose to do it anyway because it can gain them 2-3 extra reps which is massive.
WSM needs to do better. They went over this in detail fully prior to the event and Halfthor knew the rules and knew he was double dipping and not waiting for the down signal. The head ref even told the man he got 3 bad reps counted and he still wouldn't let it go. He should have only gotten 11. Justifying it because they only sort of cheating needs to stop. There was no confusion with Halfthor and we can finally agree that he lost by any measure that is not biased fanboy takes. WSM you need to do better to downplay sore losers like this in the future.

We all know that even if Thor had gotten his 15, Eddie would have gone on to do 16 haha

Eddie definitely looked like he could have done at least 2 more. Thor was losing that one no matter what

I agree. If Thor wants to retrospectively claim the extra lift based on Eddie's 15 then it's fair to say that Eddie could claim an extra lift based on Thor's because that's clearly all Eddie was aiming for.

exactly so idk why thor even chose to dispute this other than to make him feel better about losing and not being good enough to beat eddie; makes a lot of sense why he did the 501kg lift now lmao

why arent they doing reps at the same time then?
seems a bit unfair that the 2nd player has more information on how many reps are needed to win

Eddies reps were undeniable. Perfectly executed. There’s no argument to be made here.

how? eddie drops faster than thor, the ref automaticaly counts his reps without waiting for him to hold it up?

Jaeger Eren no way bro. He went down when he was supposed to. Plus he didn’t double dip and he had a full lockout every time. The ref even said he gave Thor a few of those bad reps.

@@Kbackj thors reps are slower to the up. This is why eddie could get the call to go down way faster than thor could.
