I loved the big muscular look the show gave its characters, it was too bad Toriyama didn't feel the same way because he thought his characters were too overly muscular, which is why they're a lot leaner in Super. I don't hate the leaner look but I just prefer the buffer look.

too buff and you get slow. it was explained on the show, and it actually holds true in the real world as well. i think in one the episodes cell explains to trunks why vegeta didnt take this form because it lowers the speed and that trunks is a fool to think that he has surpassed his dad because vegeta just didnt bother with that transformation because vegeta knew it was not the right way to go about it.

@@immortaldemon I was referring to the art style, not the transformations themselves. For example, compare how Z Goku(base form) is drawn compared to Super Goku(base form). Goku in Z had way more muscle mass but that didn't make him slow in the slightest.

Plus, I don't think Goku was able to understand how 'fathers' are supposed to function in the family just from knowing his grandfather. I just thought it was amazing that he knew how to be a dad for his son despite being clueless at a lot of things lol.

The theme that plays when Goku and Gohan are training is so good. Bruce Faulconer’s DBZ soundtrack is by far the best.
The fact that there’s such a difference between the experience between the father and the son! Vegeta knew about the ultra super saiyan transformation but he knew it had a major flaw, Vegeta couldn’t find a way around that flaw so he didn’t use that transformation but on the other had trunks being a rookie just had a power buff and jumped onto the battlefield without seeing its flaws!
Makes you wonder why Vegeta didn't use this transformation for his Final Flash.
Thr dub sort of muddies the water but the og anime and manga are more clear - what Trunks and Vegeta are doing isn't a transformation, it's just regular Super Saiyan being pushed past its limits.
The idea behind the Cell Saga is for the Saiyans to try to find the next transformation beyond Super Saiyan.
They all try, but Vegeta and Trunks get it wrong.
Goku and Gohan master the basic SSJ form and then Gohan's the first one to show there IS another form waiting after Super Saiyan

what’s even funnier is that all while training gohan to become super sayian and than teaching gohan how to control that power so he can turn it on and off goku figured out how to push the ssj powers to where vegeta and trunks got to as well as figuring out it’s weakness.
@@chrisdirker8715 In the dub, they make it unclear and muddy it even more, making it almost sound like it weighs the Saiyans down and the reason Trunks couldn't hit Cell was because all the extra muscle slowed him down.
But we've seen the Saiyans casually lift/throw cars and we all know they're MUCH stronger than that, so it makes no sense they'd be weighed down by a few extra pounds of muscle.
The manga just explains that the muscles are so BIG that they can't fully extend or contract properly, limiting their range of movement and the technique itself burns way more energy than normal.

Honestly, I prefer the dub’s explanation better. They’re extremely bulked up and shows that bulky muscle don’t mean shit in a fight. They can lift and throw heavy things like that because of Ki.

Krillin might not be very strong compared to the Saiyans and cell, but Vegeta's weight is a non-issue: Krillin can still probably bench the planet at this point in the story. He's ridiculously powerful - he only looks weak because everyone else is *extra* ridiculously powerful.

I watched DBZ for probably the 20th time after your channel got to the cell saga,I grew up with dragon ball, cowboy bebop,Inyuyasha,Fullmetal alchemist,and Yu yu Hakusho, before the big 3
While it's true that Trunks has surpassed his father in power alone, in a way (I'm not spoiling this for the sake of the you guys reactions) time and time again Trunks is the type of person to finish the enemy as quickly as possible before they get any stronger. He is his father's son, but the difference is he cares for his loved ones and Vegeta just let's his anger and pride of Goku get in the way and wonder why there's a power gap between them. What do you guys think?

After Namek, no Saiyan will get zenkais anymore, and Vegeta here is one example. He doesn’t receive one after being healed from this fight, and no saiyan does from here on out.
This is most likely because they were too powerful of an ability to keep in the show, it was just a plot point during Namek to get the fighters to very strong levels fast. They havent completely abandoned the concept at this point yet, but I wont explain further so you can experience it yourselves
I’ve thought about this. I bet you could argue that they still get the zenkai but it would be so small compared the insane jumps in power after they all became SSJ.

Trunks having his own battle with Cell is what I think everyone was waiting for! Krillin recognized Trunks' transformation as akin to the same berserker like look (his eyes and face) as when Gohan went great ape.
Now for Grade 3- Grade 3 is over 4x stronger than Grade 2.
If Trunks were to use his own Final Flash like move here and it hit- Cell would be dead.
But 1) Cell knows that and would dodge
2) Trunks doesn't have a move like that akin to the same x4 multiplier, but he does have Heat Dome Attack which is around x2 stronger.
3) Trunks is unquestionably stronger than Vegeta here, about 4 times stronger- but since Trunks has no finished move like Vegeta- the increase is basically if you were to make Vegeta's Final Flash Power Level and make it Trunks' Full Grade 3 Power, as in they're equal.
Gohan and Goku will be over 10x stronger than Full Power Grade 2 Vegeta in their Grade 4 Forms, however if you're questioning "why x10? Why not x16 since most multipliers are x4 and multiplied by each other?".
Its because Vegeta and Trunks have a base that is stronger than Goku and Gohan (No Rage, Untapped Potential, Supressed), so it only makes them stronger by x10. However this is excluding Ki moves from either side.
I'll go ahead and scale Grade 4 and Cell for you guys in a couple episodes from now, but such a cool episode!
Though I'd also like to add that Trunks takes a extreme penalty to his speed, as many of you know. The debuff is about Trunks' Grade 2 Form Speed divided by 4, which means his speed is barely on par with his SSJ Grade 1 state- which by now is suuuuper slow. And for sacrificing ÷4 speed he gets a x4 to his power.
Cell can enter Grade 3 & 4 & any other transformation theoretically (as in he has the same capability as any other saiyan).
