On the beautiful island of Koh Samui, in Southern Thailand, we embark on the most difficult challenge we have EVER done. We eat, sleep, and train like Muay Thai (mixed martial arts) champions (more like absolute beginners) as we attempt to transform ourselves from regular to extraordinary.

I lived in Thailand for 2 years when i was sponsored by a gym to fight in Phuket. Getting taken seriously as a foreign Muay Thai fighter in Thailand is the biggest compliment you could ever get. It was my dream since i was about 10 years old though.
Worth noting though that as a "non-fighter", your experience of the training is VERY different to an actual fighter. The actual fighters have to do a ridiculous amount of running outside of the group training sessions, as well as they nearly always stay on after you finish, to do another 1hour+ of clinching / cardio / abs / conditioning. They also don't get days off and can never miss one session. It's gruelling, but good job for getting a taste of it and surviving!
Oh wow - that’s awesome! Sounds like quite the experience! Ah yes of course, we would never be able to have the experience of a true fighter - you have to eat, sleep and LIVE Muay Thai hehe! 😅🤗
Thais are famous for overtraining their fighters.... sometimes to the point that it becomes dangerous and unhealthy. This is why most Thai fighters retire by the time they're like 28-30.
I believe even Muay Thai God Buakaw was suffering from overtraining, where he started to do worse in his fights, eventually leading to him changing gyms/trainers
@@scythianking7315 Thats actually not quite right. Firstly most Thais actually retire at a MUCH younger age than what you said, and for different reasons.
Most Thais actually retire at 22-24. And it's not due to overtraining, it's due to overfighting. Most of them start fighting full rules with elbows, knees by the time they are 7 years old. By the time they are 20, most of them have had 300-400 fights. It's not uncommon for a Thai to fight every week, sometimes even twice a week for months on end. It's only when they reach lumpinee level that might drop to once per month (still WAY more than any other combat sport).
The toll on the body comes mostly from the punishment sustained in such a vast number of fights. This is part of the reason why thais only sparr VERY lightly and not very often
I know because i lived and trained with thais for years there and made very close friends.
I Would agree that the standard training regime is extremely punishing for any professional athlete. Which is why i am so proud i could keep up with the locals. It's worth noting that they are the BEST at what they do, so i would hesitate to say they "OVERtrain" unless you have seen the results
@@dannystalford5029 Bit of a late comment but I wanted to point out how you said pro thai's fight almost weekly and that they "over fight" and when you think about it, they're fighting so often its pretty much just apart of training so I personally believe that most thai's do in fact over train which like you pointed out there bodies begin to wear down at a very young age.
You guys did great and the results speak for themselfes. I love Muay Thai, am doing it for almost 15 years right now and i really enjoy watching "random" people on youtube having a blast doing it, thanks for sharing your experience :)

It's very cool. There are 3 dangers in Muay Thai. Strong kicks. But have to kick with a twist of the hips, elbows. A single elbow can cause an opponent torn wounds, knees. If you hit your knees into the opponent's stomach it will cause the opponent to choke to the point of suffocation, importantly, Muay Thai. trained for self defense May you develop quickly. 🙏🙏😁😁
Yes the kicks are very powerful and dangerous. Elbows also can cause cuts to the skin. Fortunately we were only going light on each other 😀
