The reason Aquaman did so well was pretty simple.
It was colorful. It didn't insult the fans (except perhaps the comic fans, but even then, not so much). They didn't sell the film with snark and sarcasm. It wasn't woke, nor was it anti-anything at all. It was stupid, mindless, colorful, ridiculous fun at the box office, and it didn't leave a bad taste in anyone's mouth (until Amber Heard showed the world who she really is).
It landed right smack in the middle of a bunch of disappointing movies and reboots, and people were tired of the failures, so even a marginal movie like Aquaman was a breath of fresh air. They will not repeat the same success twice.
...what? That is not simple at all HAHAHA. The real simple reason is women went gaga for Jason Momoa. Riding off Game of Thrones, a lot of people loved Momoa, especially the women. All the girls I knew that went to see the movie were thirsty AF for him.

Reasons Aquaman was successful:
1. It didn’t preach at us.

Huh, those reasons seem interestingly similar to the (albeit mild, if I remember correctly) success of man of steel…DC, for all its cinematic failings, has their casting more-or-less on point (with notable exceptions for amber heard and especially Ezra miller).
The scene where people walked out was, Amber Heard character Mera suing Aquaman for attacking her in the movie and Aquaman won the case.

Brenden Fraser talked about how Batgirl wasn’t even in a state to be shown to anybody when Warner Bros. screened it for people, which is sort of an odd thing to do for a film just going to streaming as you don’t normally show films in front of audience when it’s not going to be in theaters. All the effects weren’t there nor was everything cut out that would be cut out of the finished film so Warner Bros. just sunk Batgirl just because they could and I find that to be unfortunate, but Warner Bros. have made some pretty dumb decisions over the years so it’s not a total surprise. Maybe Batgirl is good, maybe it’s somewhat decent, maybe it sucks but we will never know.

The directors of Batgirl had the rug pulled under them. The show wasn't finished and WB execs cancelled it without even telling them. Like seriously how bad can it be. Without CGI it looks terrible.

I think the issue is with the Hollywood development process. When a writer(s) comes forward with a screenplay that is a sequel to a BILLION dollar movie, the screenplay doesn't get the same level of scrutiny as a new idea. They know there is a built-in audience. I'd be willing to bet all of the story issues with the movie are obvious in the shooting script.
Because Amber Heard is involved in it, the film will no doubt make less money than it would have if she wasn’t in the film at all, due to how the public at large is not fond of her.

Maybe a little bit less like CZcamsrs who probably see everything on streaming anyways. But most mainstream audience don't follow this stuff. Without any competition when it opens it should do as well as the first. Mainly because people go for dinner and movie over the holidays not because they're Aquaman fans.

I think the pandemic reprogrammed the public consciousness with regard to the value proposition of entertainment. For better or worse, people don’t like going to the theaters as much as they used to, so if they’re going to spend $50 to $100 on seeing a film with their family, it’s got to be the one big blockbuster movie of the year, not one of the 10 movies of the year.

If the movie is bad why don't WB shelve it like they did with Batgirl. You're right. They know people are gonna give this a miss like they did with Ezra Miller's The Flash, so they're saving the ad money. The low turn out for Blue Beetle didn't help. I saw the latest trailer for Aquaman 2 and it looks OK, it actually looks decent.

I just looked it up, and no I’m sure it’s worse, especially considering aquaman is supposed to be a movie for general audiences. The Boys can get away with all kinds of obscenities because that’s what their audience expects from them; general audiences don’t expect to witness the birth and subsequent death of aqua man’s baby. Or any baby, for that matter. Let’s not put baby deaths in movies typically watched by families.

I seriously struggle to even remember a single scene from the first one. I'm not even sure I watched it tbh. Which is a struggle I share with most superhero films, but this one especially.
With Heard in it, I'm out.
Another thing to consider is that people are burned out on super hero movies. Disney contributed to this when they just kept churning out poorly made movies and streaming shows that would rather preach at their audience then be fun. People are not going to drop money in today's economy to see another potential super hero flop.
It’s really too bad they screwed up this iteration of DC movies, they had perfect actors for every character but one. They should really just reboot with the same actors for everyone but the flash and take their time introducing them. I’d forgive it and give them a chance, not sure if I’m an exception though.

Even being very conservative about it. Let’s say they spent $200 mil making it and $100 mil marketing it… They would still need to do roughly $600 mil at the global box office just to break even. It won’t do anywhere close to that. And realistically, it probably needs to do like $800 mil or $900 mil if we knew the real numbers.

Great commentary. I saw the first one in cinema just because there was nothing better showing around Xmas. I'm no Aquaman fan but it was okay not great. If there's no competition when this sequel opens then it should do well just because people wanna go for dinner and movie over holidays not because they're fans of Aquaman. I have no hopes for Aquaman 2 to be a good movie, all the signs show it's going to be another terrible Hollywood mess. I have no plans on seeing it either, nor any other new movie made by the Hollywood elites unless there's very good word of mouth by people whose opinions I actually care about(so not the mainstream media nor all the Hollywood shills). Hollywood has simply shown me time and time again that they couldn't care less what what I personally want to see in a movie so I simply stopped consuming their products. He's not fired. The entire DCEU is being rebooted. This isn't the first time you have distorted information, or just plain haven't done research.
Considering that every DC movie that came out this year has been a box office bomb, it’s stands to reason that Aquaman 2 will fair no differently. It’s a damn shame really. I haven’t decided yet if I want to go see it or not, but if I do, I won’t have any high expectations for it
They had recent hits like Joker and Matt Reeves Batman. Thankfully they had Barbie and Mario. Flash was pretty good so not sure why fans didn't show up. I think Flash is just a second rate superhero.

The first one was just watchable if there was absolutely nothing on. James Gunn has not done good work lately the Guardians of Galaxy volume 3 was beyond awful.
People behind Marvel and DC are absolutely insane we know this because they're deliberately tanking all these IPS it would simply require them to go back to a certain date and comment book history I don't know let's say 60s to 2000 and pick one of thousands of different stories to tell take that story and put it into a decent movie and people would flock to the theaters again people like to talk about super movie fatigue it's not fatigue of superhero movies it's fatigue of garbage in the lack of respect for the product and the content things of that nature

Not strictly related, but Momoa never worked for me as Aquaman. Patrick Wilson fits the character way more, he's the right ethnicity and has a sort of regal look, you could buy people would look at that guy as a king.

If anyone should be let go it should be Gal Gadot. Letting Henry Cavil go was the biggest DC mistake so far. If I was Jason I'd just dip at this point. It's a sinking ship and almost all superhero films are dying a slow painful death. These types of films and shows need a decade off to give us all a break. Constantly pumping out superhero movies is only going to hurt them more down the road. The only franchise doing well is Spiderman/Batman and while they're some of my favorites. I am sick and tired of all these movies. People can't write or make decent movies anymore and they insist on sticking to hero flicks or used IP's like Indiana Jones, 007 and others. What a sad state of affairs for films lately. There's a gem here and there but those are far between.
WB execs can't make their mind what to do and wasted Henry Cavill youth when he could have played Superman in two sequels already. WB is a mess. Gal Gadot is great in first WW but second sucked. That's not her fault as script was awful.
