Twilight Zone really did stand the test of time ... 👍
There's a classic blooper I picked up on from episode the midnight sun. After it gets so hot the power goes out, a guy comes in the apartment for water and opens the refrigerator and the light goes on. Pretty funny after the power went out
☀️
Ah, but the refrigerator light is powered by a little gremlin who lives inside the refrigerator
Exactly!
By the way the girl in car was Inger Stevens. I loved her the Farmer's daughter series. I watched it all the time. She also played an robot kind of person in one series. 😊
You're thinking of the TZ episode "The Lateness of the Hour," which is one of my favourite episodes.
She is quite eye-catching, and I do remember liking The Farmer's Daughter though it has been a long time since I watched it.
Thank you for the video, but remember that when these episodes were aired, there was no High Definition TV. It wasn't even very good definition TV. There also were no consumer recording devices to pause or slow down the action. TZ also did not have a huge budget, and their production schedule did not allow many re-shoots. It was an anthology series, and the star performers had to move on to the next job and so were not always available for call backs. Some of those things would be noticed by few viewers. Other things, like blooper #1, wouldn't be noticed at all.
Yes, not even in color. There's an episode of Star Trek TOS called "The Naked Time" where the Enterprise crew encounter a planet where the population has been killed off by some disease. We see a "corpse" that, on an HD modern TV, is very obviously a mannequin. Back then on a 1967 TV it would have probably looked more believable.
Don’t forget that the TVs of the late 50s early 60s didn’t have anywhere near the resolution for quality of TVs from today
That’s why I’m showing them to you all in 2022. Perfect how that all works out 😉
As I've said before, I really like these little bloopers. At the time, a lot of them were probably left in due to costs of reshooting. 1 of the things I love about The Twilight Zone is how many great actors, established as well as starting out, were in different episodes. & of course, It's a Good Life got The Simpsons treatment.
Oh my goodness, the car change is so obvious! Can’t believe I have missed it after watching it so many times. The other catches were great too. I’m always happy to see your Twilight Zone videos. Thanks for a really great one today! 👍👍👍👍
I laughed when I saw it too. 🚗 🚙
I think the second car was probably from stock footage.
Big difference between the car's 😆
Easy explanation--for some reason she stopped at a used car lot and traded the Mercury for the Ford, then continued on!
Great video! Technically there's one more in the Monster episode and that's when little Anth'ny Fremont turns the neighbor into a jack-in-the-box the shadow on the wall shows one with a bobblehead and no neck, but when the face is shown he of course has one!
I kind of wonder if they could go through and update all the special effects with modern technology. Kind of like when Paramount remastered all the Star Trek original series episodes and added in newer fancier effects and even quick cutscenes of shuttle exiting the ship's shuttle bay and such.
@@ShalmendoGlineux That would destroy it, and be a massive mistake. would only me a option if it was included along side the origabal. like they did tish Startrek TOS, where you could switch between the two versions while you were watching.
@@mikeypeters7003 - I agree. First, I watched most of these when I was 7,8, or 9 years old - and didn't notice a thing. I am re-watching them now and watching S1:E2, the mad riding a wagon into town, in the far distance I can see massive towers (like cell phone towers, but must have been power or TV towers back then),. BUT, none of that stuff should be "fixed", the Twilight Zone is PERFECT the way it is...
I never noticed those bloopers before. Thanks, Rick.
I said it before and I will say it again, you are a great communicator! Your videos are well-documented, informative and entertaining. You are by far my favourite on CZcams.
I remember all these, but missed all the bloopers. Been a few decades since I've seen them. But in the episode with the guy paranoid of machines, he had said to a fellow (paraphrasing) I will dedicate an entire chapter to you in my book, it will be titled; the most forgettable man I have met. I say that to friends when talking trash. Thanks for your work, love all of it.
I've seen most of these episodes but fail to notice the bloopers. When you point them out, I find them hilarious. I really appreciate you taking the time to show us and make them interesting. This is one reason why I love being a subscriber here. Your content is very unique, yet always informative and interesting when it comes to all these old TV shows we all grew up watching and loving. Cheers!
LOVE the Twilight Zone but never realized any these bloopers. My all time favorite three shows in order: The Twilight Zone, I Love Lucy and Everybody Loves Raymond.
Do you know that Desi Arnaz was technically the first host of THE TWILIGHT ZONE and got it off the ground with THE TIME ELEMENT?
As a point of trivia the actor in "stopover in a quiet town" was Barry Nelson, the first actor to play James Bond on film.
The one where they substituted the car was actually a common practice. In many shows where the car gets in a wreck, or, in the case of an action scene, explodes, the car usually changes in that split second just before the accident. I don't remember that episode, but it looks like the car might have been swerving, so they might have switched out the car for a cheaper one that was specifically used for stunt work, just in case something happened.
The actress from the Hitchhiker episode was so beautiful, and she played the part really well. She made a creative and well-written episode into an absolute classic!
She was amazing in many ways
She was beautiful, and she starred in The Farmer's Daughter that ran from '63 to '66 and was not a bad show.
That was entertaining! Obviously someone was in the twilight zone while producing those shows.
They didnt look for the signpost up ahead….so they walked into….
@@ricknineg the twilight zone 😉
The classic Twilights Zone episode 'The Hitchhiker' always reminds me of the film 'Carnival Of Souls' (1962)...one wonders if they got the idea/main plot of that movie loosely based from the episode...
That's possible. The TZ episode, BTW, was based on a radio program from the 1940's.
He's Droopy Dog !!
@@jasonbiggss - What does Droopy Dog have to do with anything???
What a creepy movie; Carnival of Souls gives me anxiety.
Really cool to see more Blooper videos, and from The Twilight Zone as well. Keep up the great work Rick, take care!
Thanks Jared 🙏
Hey Rick, I did notice most of these bloopers, especially when the 59 Mercury turns into a 57 Ford!!! As always, thanks for your keen eye 👁️ & for sharing this fun video!!! 👍👍🙂
You’re an eagle eye!
@@ricknineg thanks Rick, I just got home from the dentist, they pulled 2 teeth so I'm comfortably numb 🤕
Oh no! Rest up
@@ricknineg thanks, I'm good I've got plenty of protein shakes to see me through the next few days, I'll go back in a few weeks & get measured for a bridge!!! To quote Henry Fonda in the movie On Golden Pond, "I wish I'd have taken better care of my teeth" 😁
59 Mercury Montclair
With the last one... Note where the note is on the door based on the molding on the door. It's a little over a foot above the center cross piece molding on the door. When the scene changes, and the guy is bent over locking the door, the note is still about a little over a foot from the center molding. I don't think it changes, the different perspective and that he is bent over makes it look like it has moved.
I think that paper had a mind of its own 📄
Painted backgrounds from tv shows of the 50s and 60s are usually very easy to spot.
Oh wow I probably missed these bloopers Rick love me some twilight zone so there's 7 of them well like I've said always miss the bloopers thanks for pointing them out rick good eye man good eye interesting bloopers great video as always buddy enjoy these thanks man 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
This was and to this day is my favorite t.v. show. I've seen every episode so many times over the years. One step beyond was a really good one too (the original B&W as well as the 70's reintroduction) and I've noticed from a quick overview many a shows I grew up with on your channel. I just subscribed! keep on doing what you're doing!
Love the TZ, seen them all and never noticed any of these bloopers! I’m currently watching Lost in Space and love Billy Mumy❣️ Great video Rick!
Billy Mumy appeared 3 times on the Twilight Zone. "Long distance Call, It's a good life, In Praise of Pip." He was a very versatile child actor.
Thank you for a very informative and interesting video. I always love to learn these little tidbits and facts about these classic shows including the Twlight Zone . Keep up the great work
Cool video. Speaking of One For The Angels, when Mr. Bookman first enters his room, there is a table with two drawers to his left that has a bundle of papers under it; however as he closes the door on Mr. Death, the bundle of papers is now gone and he's able to place his case under the table.
Great observations Rick! TZ is one of my favorite TV shows from back in the day and I never even noticed these bloopers! Thank you for pointing this out to us, I'll have to check these out when I watch the episodes again.
Dam gas at 32.9 cents in the hitch-hiker. That was interesting how the backdrop was just rolled on the floor.
When I was 16 and first started driving in Michigan gas was .28 cents a gallon. I remember handing the attendant a $5.00 bill and saying filler up!
🤩
Trust me, with the broadcast quality of television stations in the 1960’s, nobody saw any of these. People were glad they could see anything at all on their tv screens! LOL.
Lots of great bloopers! The only one I did notice before was the painted backdrop.
The rifle that Cliff Robertson has is first manufactured in 1865.
I loved watching 'The Twilight Zone' and 'The Outer Limits' when I was a kid. In the first episode of this video, 'Stopover in a Quiet Town', when the couple is in the kitchen, I noticed that the coffee pot and casserole dish were the same kind my mom had when I was a kid.
Aha - me too! Corning Ware!
Corning made an electric version of that percolator that my mom had and it made excellent coffee.
Thanks Rick, always enjoy your show and presentation! Keep enjoying what you do.
Thank you!
I am enjoying these videos so much. It's obvious you put a LOT of time and effort into them!
Thank you! I do appreciate the compliment. It’s hard work but I love what I do
This was fun! 😊 Thanks for posting.❤❤❤
Love the Twilight Zone. One for the Angels I think details are put there to help Ed Wynn who was quite elderly when recording the episode. The thing about machines, the vehicle is the same as ours are in Australia, like most British ex colonies. Young Billy Mumy in it's a good life may have parted his hair differently but he was an awesome child actor who never fell into drug addiction or alcoholism. He was such a wonderful young actor which I also loved in my favourite TV show as a young girl from Melbourne, Australia, being Lost in Space
Rick Nineg missed the point of; It's a Good Life. Billy Mumy's character is not a monster. He is just a small child with absolute unchecked power!!! This was a valuable lesson to viewers on the essence of power & corruption. Note that at that time the US was closer to nuclear war annihilation then at any other time in history. This theme or subtext Rod Serling would visit over and over again.
A Stop at Willoughby, is still one of my all-time fave episodes of the original Twilight Zone! Right next to the Talky Tina episode!
Everyone back then had small screen televisions back in the day and the only way to see the episodes again was when a station had reruns.
We had ditched cable TV years ago and have used Roku boxes ever since. For several years, their line-up included entire channels exclusively devoted to just one single TV show. These channels would stream all of the episodes of the shows, in chronological order, 24/7, uncut, commercial-free and cost free, as well. It was awesome and it's a shame that they no longer do this. Nonetheless, "The Twilight Zone" occupied one of those channels. Due to that, I've seen every episode of the series, dozens of times. As I am very familiar with the episodes, one of the advantages of watching them was to look for those little things that you might have missed on the first (or twentieth) viewing. I have to say, maybe I still had been so absorbed in the episodes themselves, I never caught any of those glitches - not a single one! Thank you for pointing them out - adding another layer of enjoyment to a timeless TV series.
Hey Rick
Another thank you for your time. 🙂
I never noticed any of these but I've seen all of these episodes and they're good ones!
😏
Love your blooper videos!
Amazing job on that!
Wow! I didn't know any of these bloopers!
Thanks Rick for pointing these out!👍
One item I DID notice in the kitchen scene in, "A Stopover In a Quiet Town...it's the white robot shaped Magic Hostess ice crusher on the counter in the backround shot of the couple. I have one of those in my kitchen...a stopover for a friendly meal! I liked this episode, due to the fact it has to do with model railroading! The "Zone" was one of the great shows of the sixties and beyond!
Another great video Rick! Always enjoy your keen observations. That one with the 2 different car models in the Hitcher episode with Inger Stevens is so obvious but I don't think I caught it when I first watched the episode as a kid.
Thank you Larry
The one with the guy that could change his face at will was one of my favorites. Spoiler alert he couldn't concentrate at the end of the episode at one particular face and it ended up being his twilight zone lol
Well-done! My favorite visual goof is in the episode " Mirror Image. " Vera Myles is in the washroom with the attendant. She opens the door and looking in the mirror, sees her doppelganger sitting on the bench. However, the attendant isn't reflected! If she had been, it would be impossible to see the bench.😊
Great video Rick....Hey Rick, here is an idea for a video why not do a video about movies and other TV shows that use ideas/plots/story elements from classic Twilights Zone episodes...
For example....
*Poltergeist - Little Girl Lost
*Steel - Real Steel
*Carnival Of Souls - The Hitchhiker
*Christine/Maximum Overdrive - The Thing About Machines
*Jacob's Ladder & The Sixth Sense- An Occurrence at Owl Creek Bridge
*The Truman Show - Special Service (from the 80s Twilight Zone reboot series)
*Ruby Sparks - A World Of His Own
*Child's Play/Puppet Master/Trilogy Of Terror - Living Doll
*28 Days Later - Where Is Everybody?
*Midnight in Paris - A Stop At Willoughby
*The Village - A Hundred Yards Over the Rim
*Final Destination - Twenty Two
*The Box - Button, Button
*The Man from Earth - Long Live Walter Jameson
*Total Recall/The Matrix - Dreams For Sale (from the 80s Twilight Zone reboot series)
*Life Size & Mannequin - The After Hours
*Poltergeist II: The Other Side & Joey/Making Contact - Long Distance Call
*The Omen - It's A Good Life
*Signs - The Invaders
*Edge Of Tomorrow - Shadow Play
*The Forgotten/Flightplan - Person Or Persons Unknown
*10 Cloverfield Lane - One More Pallbearer
*The Curious Case of Benjamin Button - A Short Drink From A Certain Fountain
*The Langoliers - The Odyssey Of Flight 33
*Cube - Five Characters In Search Of An Exit
*The Munsters - Eye Of The Beholder
*The X-Files (The Lost Art Of Forehead Sweat) - To Serve Man
Have the people involved SAID they got the idea from a Twilight Zone episode? Because there are only so msnt ideas. The horror and sci-fi genres constantly use variations on the same few ideas. I guarantee that the Twilight Zone was NOT the first time some of those plots were used, esp with the thousands of short stories and comic book stories that existed already
Great job!
Great video!
Dude! You truly have an eye for details! I mean some were pretty obvious, (the car for example) but ones like the camera man image in the sunglasses and the quick shot of the backstage area? It amazes me how you catch them! GREAT work!!! 🏆
🙏. I love what I do
We do too! 😁
first time I have noticed these bloopers! great job finding them!
Don’t worry, I will find them for you 🕵️♂️
Great job and video!
Thank you!!
I haven't seen the episode you mentioned first, but could notice crew members and stage lights when you showed the clip in real time and slow motion. I never noticed in The Hitchhiker which is one of my favorites as well. Now, with the Something About Machines episode I did notice the guy crouched while driving, I laughed so hard. I loved that time traveling episode, but never noticed the reflection in his sunglasses. For #5 I did notice that while watching that episode. I never noticed with #6 and that one wasn't one of my favorites. Never noticed the last one either, that was a good episode. Almost all the episodes of The Twilight Zone that I've seen are really good there are a few that I thought was freaky and will not watch again, some were dull, but there are so many that are favorites of mine, I loved the twists at the end, you never see them coming! Rod Serling was a genius! I couldnt get into his show Night Gallery though.
I don't know if I would criticize Anthony's hair. He might send you to the cornfield.
Your videos are always awesome and well investigated. The Twilight zone is one of my favorite shows ever. I never. Noticed these bloopers! How cool is that? Thanks Rick. HAPPY NEW YEAR.
Happy New Year! Thank you
#1 and 7 are 2 of my favorites, oh what am I saying I like all of them. I have never discovered any bloopers on my own. Thanks for sharing, but you know what I'll forget about these by the next time I see the episodes.
Nice ! Thanks Rick
🙏
As a kid, I wasn't sure if the pitch for the angels as the heavenly spirits or the baseball team.
I thought I'd seen every episode of TTZ but I've never seen the one where the guy can change his facial looks at will. got to go check it out.
The Twilight Zone (the origional series) certainly stands the test of time. It is TV writing and production at its best.
I did not notice any of these bloopers but now I don't think I can unsee them.
Thank you
Enjoyed
How could I miss all of these bloopers !, thank you, Rick !, There's an Argentinean TTZ copycat show called "Historias para no dormir" and that one is chock-full of bloopers on almost every episode, it featured more supernatural stories than sci-fi tho, lol I grew up watching both shows in PR back in the 80s
In #2 the young lady is Inger Stevens. She committed suicide in 1970, she was 35 years old at the time.
This is pretty good one Rick. I have seen some of those bloopers but did you know they did a remake on number 6 and that the original little guy, right now I can't remember his name, was in the remake as one of the guys sitting on the bar I don't know if you seen Twilight Zone the movie or what but that's what it was in. Anyway thanks for the video enjoyed it have a great day and stay safe!
Classic show, thanks for all you d o
🙏
It’s good you found those bloopers, real good!
Imagine if you will a groundbreaking early television program, a novel and unique endeavor excelling in outstanding writing presenting thought-provoking, often surreal exploration of diverse subjects, boldly sold to uncertain network executives, but at times lacking a competent script supervisor to ensure continuity, that we shall call - the not quite right zone.
I only noticed the cars, because I always notice classic cars.
Rick, another great blooper video! I have not watched The Twilight Zone for years but will seek out some episodes, especially the Hitch Hiker one. I may have a blooper for you, in Green Acres S02E18 EXODUS TO BLEEDSWELL. In one scene Haney is selling various colored security badges in order to get into the production plant. You can see all the colors of the badges and Haney mentions various access privileges for the red, white and yellow badges, You can see the various colors of the badges during a full screen shot of them. In a following scene Oliver Douglas enters a "Restricted Area". The sign states "Pink Badges Only". However Pink Badges are not available according to what we see on Haney's badge board. I'm not sure of this is a blooper or an intentional faux pas to demonstrate the insanity of the whole scheme.....take a look. A Green Acres Blooper video would be awesome too....
Awesome! Def check them out
Reflection in his glasses. Now that took some work to see.
watched all in original showing and reruns and dvds
but never saw any of this
thx rick!
Hello I really like you videos I notice things like that when I watch shows also. When they change cars at 3:23 it looks like the same car on the episode "you drive ".
Great catches ! Love the old Twilight Zone episodes. Saw all the originals ! Never caught these bloopers. Thanks
Excellent video and thanks for sharing!
At the Hitch hiker scene about the different cars: could it be possible that the original scene was about the girl and the stranger making her struggle with the steerwheel and having them both about to crash with ANOTHER vehicle (the black older one) ?
Just asking.
One for the angels, 100 yds over the rim, The Lonely, and The Hunt are my favs!
My wife has a talent for catching these sort of continuity errors.
Ed Wynn aka "The Perfect Fool" (during vaudeville years) was a great actor and I think he was the lead actor in three episodes of The Twilght Zone.
I noticed in the still frames of "One for the Angels" that he was not standing at full height in either of the stills showing him outside his door.
Even in the 2nd still image it appears that he is still hunched over by 2-3 inches.
It is one of my top 5 episodes of TTZ series.
Thank you for your posts.
I always enjoy them!!!
Ed Wynn also played the trainer in the original TV production of Rod Serling's "Requiem For a Heavyweight" with his son Keenan as the manager and Jack Palance as the fighter.
OMG loved second one too!!!!!I remember the first car!!!never noticed it.
Wow I have watched Twilight Zone since it was first aired yes I am that old but until now I never noticed any errors in them. Now I have something new to watch them for. I keep watching them for they are great story telling that has not been matched.
Never noticed those bloopers before. All those episodes are great. #4 is one of my favorites. I used to drive by that restaurant on hwy 395 every week.
That’s so cool you drove by it 🏍
You can really notice the driver in "A Thing About Machines" when the car reverses after smashing into the boxes.
My parents wouldn’t allow me to watch The Twilight Zone 🤬, but I love bloopers of any form and these are really good. I guess we weren’t as observant as we should have been in those days to spot Billy Mumy’s strange hairstyles or the car that changed colour and shape, and it’d probably never occurred to the producers of these shows that, with the aid of a domestic video recorder (a futuristic invention), we could see some of the set men, reflections in glasses, etc., that you’ve pointed out. If I ever do get to see some full episodes, I will keep my eyes peeled 👀.
In the episode "Trouble with machines" the scene where the right hand drive car crashes through the fence or gate if you pause the image as the car busts through you'll notice that there is a series of bumper bars mounted on the front of the car to protect the radiator and fenders from being demolished.
I just watched that episode yesterday and didn't notice that lol, though I did wonder why this apparently well-off fop had so many boxes and crates stacked around his yard.
I loved seeing some of my favorite actors again !
I can't believe that I never noticed all those bloopers. Thanks Rick
a good one that I just noticed recently is in the eye of the beholder when the doctor and nurse who have the pigfaces are talking in a shadow...they keep purposely hiding the doc's face...but there's a second or two where you can see that he is not wearing the prosthetic at all in that particular scene lol the nurse had her back to the camera so you couldn't see her at all. I'm sure it saved time and money to not have to go through all that makeup in a scene where they aren't showing their faces
Rick: "It stands out to me but I'll slow it down for you." lol
4. I wonder if the darkening of the car’s color might have been a deliberate choice on Sterling’s part to increase the mood and tension of that episode towards the end of it? I guess we’ll never really know.
I always thought the car change in The Hitchhiker was deliberate since everything after the first stop at a filling station didn't happen
Now was it that it never happened? Or maybe another possibility
That would be genius!
@@ricknineg I don't think it was a blooper or a lack of continuity. Serling was a genius and had full creative control in the early seasons.
I'm always amazed at how your eyes catch all these bloopers!!! 😁👏👏👏
👁
When these were aired the quality wasn't good enough to worry about small details. And even if you did see something you didn't have the option to rewind.
Hello Rick--great job! Another Twilight Zone blooper you missed: This episode starred William Schatner while he was on a plane with a little monster disabling the engine. Please note the plane keeps changing from a two-engine machine (Convair 340) during close-ups, to a four-engine machine (Douglass DC-6) during far distance shots. Check it out! Tom H.
That could have happened if they were not able to get permission to shoot inside the larger aircraft.
You should’ve mentioned that “Anthony” was played by Billy Mumy, later of Lost in Space fame.
It's been eons since I've watched these, with the exception of a couple you've done bloopers on that I had to watch right then. But these shows back then didn't have much of a budget and had to reuse other sets from other shows, which is why some of them looked familiar. They also used tons of painted backgrounds as well, which is always obvious.
And just as you saw the car change from one type to another, so did many outfits. Women wore gloves back then, and a lot of scenes would have a woman wearing gloves, then not, then they were back on again. Same goes for mens suits, shirts, hats, and ties. There wasn't really anybody to keep track of this stuff, usually the actors had to not only memorize their lines, but their costumes, their makeup, and their marks.
And this went on until computer generated effects became commonplace only about a decade ago.
I remember watching Wonder Woman.......and when Diana Prince spun around to turn into Wonder Woman, the background lighting usually changed drastically, because it took a couple of hours for her to get into costume and makeup for her Wonder Woman character.
Cool! 👍
NYUK NYUK
You know what I noticed here? In that episode about the face-changer there's a nightclub poster for "Buck Winston opening tonight". Well, Buck Winston was a corny cowboy boyfriend of Mary Boland in the classic 1939 film, "The Women". That's what leapt out to me...
Also in the episode Stopover in a quiet town as the couple are walking around there is a guy sitting on a porch. I suspect he was a crew member taking a break.
Interesting - your first two examples showed the late Inger Stevens in those shots.
