I just got my copy (2020 reprint) and this was very helpful in learning how to run the solo game. I also appreciate how you make the small cuts in video to keep the total length reasonable. Must be very tedious, so thank you!

Thanks, glad I could help! The editing is definitely not my favourite part but it's worth it in the end :)

16:10 Vastly overpaid clay for the smokehouse!
32:30 If you'd used the shipping line to just sell the Steel that would have made you almost as much as building the liner, and you could have filled up the ships with loads of cattle too, probably a better play than building the liner anyway. Finishing the game with steel on hand is a cardinal sin imo :D
As a general strategy tip, I think you bought too many buildings! Build them and they're a net gain of points remember!

Subtitled up, thanks! I think I had some kind of master plan with all that steel, but the game ended before the plan did :)

    Very good video!
Btw, couldn't you have sold the wharf as an extra action at the end? That would have released your worker and you could use it again to build the liner

So the main goal of the solo is to survive with all of this feeding every round which you successfully did and then just count the money?
So it is a beat your own score, the next time do we have a different ships to build?

Seems like it. That's why I came to this video, the instructions don't really say anything about the solo mode. Most games with solo tend to give you a little chart that would tell you how many points you need at the end to hit various levels. (i.e. 100-200: you suck, 200-300: getting warmer...800-900: Ace, that sort of thing :) )

Nice video! Question: I already own A Feast for Odin. Would it be worth it to pick up Le Havre as well if I'm mainly going to be playing solo?

Le Havre never really grabbed me as much as a lot of his others but there are plenty of people that disagree with me on that 😀

That's so weird. This video will not play for me. It gets to :35 and stops... even after disabling the CZcams app (Android), clearing all data, enabling (tested here, and failed), and updating (tested again, and failed).

You didn't build the liner, but the ships you *did* build had value you didn't count!

In a solo game you start with the marketplace and the blackmarket built in the town already..

as i recall, the black market is played without in a solo game.

Tom,I have watched many of your solo video and I appreciate the time and the effort you put into them . I just feel that in some you are focussing too much on the final score and it effects the gameplay as there are often simple mistakes that you dont see as a consequence. which is a real shame as your videos are excellent.

    • @slickerdrips
      @slickerdrips  Před 3 lety +6

Thanks Andrew, I'm glad you like them! It's not really the final score, it's being aware of what's in the shot, if the audio levels are okay, if I'm describing things well enough, and trying to keep it entertaining that all just makes some simple mistakes slip through the cracks and there's no easy way to fix them sadly. That said though, I'm hoping they get the feel of the game across well and also that I've gotten better at keeping the mistakes down in more recent videos :)

@@slickerdrips Alright then, I'll let you off with a couple of little ones Tom, but next time it gets out of hand, me and my mates will be right on here to let you know your quality is slipping... Nah.. Honestly the videos are great. But I want them perfect aswell, 😁

@@slickerdrips I just want to chime in saying that it is amazing that you're responding to constructive criticism on a 3.5-year-old video. And yes, you've gotten far better at keeping an overview of the game in more recent videos. Keep up the good work, you're by far the most comprehensive, yet concise, board game playthrough CZcamsr I've found!

a very good video, but you are making too many small mistakes. Tips: 1 if you would have looked at the marketplace you could have planned out your game strategy much better. 2: if you would have used the the fishmarket building, you could have gained a much better momentum for your gamepoints. set the game up axaclty the same as the video and try to replay the game according to this idea and you will see. im not going to mention all your small mistakes. again thx for the video.
