Do not watch this video if you want to see close up high quality shots or drone surfing footage. This is more of a video to show what it is like now at the Nazaré farol and Praia do Norte on a big wave day. We walk around showing the crowds and the atmosphere on the cliff as thousands of people gather for the spectacle. We show the best places to stand for the best views and what it is like at the Forte de São Miguel Arcanjo.
Since the HBO documentary The 100 Foot Wave took the world by storm, thousands of people have been flocking to Nazaré to witness this insane natural phenomenon every time a XXXL swell drops in. It is well worth the hype, not only to see nature at it's wildest but to see the world's greatest surfing athletes perform on this most impressive stage.

My dream is to go here and see these waves in person. Even better would be to see a surf competition on these babies. I can't believe these brave surfers who ride these waves. It's unbelievable. Nobody puts on a show quite like nature. So cool

That view of the road to the fort and the whole clip in general was one of the most honest and informative ones, for the average punter, I've seen of a big wave day at Nazare.

@@FrugalTravellers Yes, there are a lot, some might say too many, videos of very good big wave surfing at Nazaré, and I think I might have watched them all 😁 And yet precious few, some might say very close to none,, show what it's really like for the average punter, on a budget, from the Old Dart or the Land Down Under or the Land of the Long White Cloud who are just getting about enjoying that par of the world for an extended stretch of time. Olá Mandy & Lee! Loved the video! You got a beautiful day! It’s very similar to the weather I has the day I went to Nazaré. It was Feb 11, 2017. The sunset on the massive waves was magical!
My daughter is living in LA now and has gotten in to surfing… and so we tend to talk 🏄♀️, a lot… she looks to me to be the expert on big wave surfing. LOL
I think you two belong on the Silver Coast, at least semi-permanently. 😉.

Hi Jen. Glad you have got to experience a day like this at Nazaré. It certainly is quite a sight and although the images we see online are something, there's nothing like standing on those cliffs hearing the roar of the waves and feeling the spray in your face.
It seems that fate has brought us to the Silver coast and is holding us here for some time. How lucky we are! 😊👍~ Lee

Gotta say these waves dont look especially huge on this day. A challenging surf due to them being broken up but not much bigger than many other places.
I agree. It must be so difficult for the organisers to pick the day for the Tow Surf Challenge, as it's any time between November and March, with only 3 days notice given. If the storms then die down, so do the waves.
Too bad there weren’t any big waves when I was there in April.. it’s still so majestic! Loved it ❤️
It's still such an awesome, dramatic spot with or without the big waves. 😊 November to February seems to be the peak months for the waves but it's beautiful year round. 👍 ~ Lee

You got a great day for it, yes mandy gopro not great for shots you want to take but is good filming hedgehogs on time-lapse, I've taken better picks on my olde box brownie huawei phone than some dude with 2ft lens lol great vid as always 😎👍
It was a perfect day for weather and waves! Now I want to go out and find a hedgehog to film! 😂😂. I did have some serious camera envy up on that cliff. A drone would also be great fun but a pain in the arse to lug around. 😬 Cheers!
