So, I used to work at GameStop. Worked for them for over 12 years. They have a service at the stores called "ship from store." So, if customers order products online, but there's a local store near their address that has the product, then they send that store the order to fulfill. So that's why you get a lot of the yellow envelopes. Also, if you're looking online and they have a picture of the box art for the retro games rather than just the cartridge or disc, then you have a higher chance of getting the case. This is nothing. Go check out a reseller when they are doing Gamestop sales. They literally will spend tens of thousands of dollars. It’s actually why they got completely bought out of retro games during the pandemic. Resellers are trash.

Buying games at GameStop is like playing Russian Roulette where they mixed up the rules. Instead of one bullet in the barrel, they removed just one bullet in a full barrel.

I bet Pam D or her parents wrote her name on that cartridge to not forget that its her game because back when we were kids we would always share and lend out our Gameboy games with lots of other kids and at the end after months we often didn't even knew anymore which ones were our games and which ones from others so it makes sense for parents to write their kids name on stuff especially if they have big friend circles in elementary school

My mom wrote our last name inside each of our dvd case,we used to have so many that we lent out and never got back hahahaha
personally i like stuff like that when i buy games, it’s probably pretty weird, but i feel like it kind of gives them personality
I did that with a few games I lent to my neighbors. They had spoiled kids so in the past I'd lend them games and then they'd say they were theirs. And their parents believed them despite their past behavior. So I still lent games to them but with my last name written in silver permanent marker on it. You can bet your ass I got those back.

My favorite is when I go to their stores, spend a while picking something that has a good case and manual. Take it up to the counter and they pull out an ass looking copy without a manual and a greatest hits disc in a regular case. Can't imagine taking chances buying from them online. No way.
As I said, 95% of 3ds/ds games are going to be cartridge only. The boxes are thrown out as they are traded in by the customer and/or GameStop employees.
That final fantasy 3 is such a rare occasion, with both the game and being complete.
as someone who works there i would say 10-15% of all PS3, 3ds,DS, 360 games that get traded come with cases

Yeah, I used to be signed up for a monthly retro gaming box. At first they were sending out complete games then it degraded into lose carts.

Just letting you know, you need to lift ps3 discs up to the light to see through the label just in case there is scratches on the top side. It won't read the disc if it does

You do realize that Gamestop has no control over what you get when you buy their games, it's all returns. It literally just depends on whether the person who returned the game brought the game in its box. What gamestop SHOULD of done is give less money if you bring in the CD or cartridge ONLY. Instead they give you the full return either way.

Speaking of luck finding Final Fantasy 3 on DS... A couple years ago I went to a pop-up consignment shop to go clothes shopping for my kids, and as we approached checkout, there was a bin with a random DS game, and it was Final Fantasy 3, complete in box, clean, and it was marked for $4. Needless to say I was thrilled and snapped it up.

Raging blast the best of DBZ games. Used to build custom decks and vs people with 1 character each in team battle . Near 10 minute fights.
I think when it is sent solo in an envelope, the store that sends it, the receipt usually does not reflect the actual price you bought the game for. I've seen it happen many times.

Gamestop was an incredible place to buy GameCube, DS etc a few years ago. Especially when they had their Buy 2 get 1, 4 for $10 or 4 for $20 deals. Was reselling on eBay as a side hustle for a year in a half pre covid. Now days they have really tighten in their pricing. You occasionally can find some good stuff, but generally its not worth your time unless you are genuinely into collecting old games without cases and have a massive CD binder.

I think I got a NEW copy of Persona 5 PS3 for less than $20 a few months ago..
Just recently was able to get the Mass Effect 2 N7 Collectors Edition (nice) for $20 at a local shop. The extra goodies were in PERFECT condition, but the plastic case was slightly damaged. Super stoked about it
