Nice work Tony. Funny how all these people want to hate on it cause its not the usual Tony Royster Jr chops and what not. I truly admire this guy cause he can play all genres of music on any given night. Guys been making money since way before most of us could even play a song all the way through on our instruments lol. Tony is a working drummer and has been basically for his entire life.

Although it may be simple drumming he is so locked in to whatever song hes playing. Hell I'm sure Tony doesn't mind one bit not having to play crazy chops for his entire performance. Can set it on cruise control and collect a lot of money doing so. Only people complaining are ones like your self who if they see a Tony Royster Jr. video they expect crazy chops.
I took my daughter to see Katy Perry in Vegas last year and I was like holy shit, that's Tony Royster Jr on drums!!! I was telling everybody around me, "that's one of the best drummers on the planet". Lol. Nobody cared.
when you love playing your instrument it doesn't matter what gig you are playing. Everyone always thinks he just wants to get up there and shred and do the chops and what not. Maybe he enjoys these gigs as well cause they are simpler to get through. Making a nice check while not working that hard? Yes please. Oh and on top of it its just another top artist he gets to say he played drums for. Grow that portfolio even more.
If he was bored he wouldn't be putting that much energy or feel into it. The fact that he's able to put his drummer-ego on the back burner is why he gets hired by so many huge names in the pop and rap sides of the industry. At the professional level, nobody wants a showboat who steps all over their songs.
I just find his playing lacks any dynamic range, everything is hard with no variation. Kind of remind me of kids playing on buckets. I have heard him play live with Katy Perry and it made me really miss Adam Marcello.
@@the_minimalistic_adventure I have watched many of his videos and heard him play live, he is powerful lots of chops but lacks any subtle dynamics. Someone like Todd Sucherman is more of an example of playing dynamically.
Dude has the best gig doing what he loves. I bet most people in the crowd have no idea what a legend he is!

Hes smart. Probably one of the easiest yet highest paid gigs hes done. Hats off to him. A legend for the newer generation of drummers
